The Saite Dynasty (664-525 BC) represents a dynamic but lesser-known era in the history of ancient Egypt. In less than a decade Psamtek I reunified the country after almost 400 years of fragmentation. The lector is first attested during the 2nd Dynasty and is subsequently recognised throughout ancient Egypt history. This study challenges previous approaches to studies on the Lector and explores his diverse functions in a wide ranging review of the relevant evidence.
