Based in decadent Bath in 1762, at a time when the British and French were fighting for control of Bengal, the tale unfolds of Major Irving, a Foreign Office official, tasked with a mission of national importance during the state visit of the Prince of Bengal. Rose Stanhope, lodging with her promiscuous aristocrat cousin, becomes inextricably involved in his world while trying to establish a controversial agency. With a vicious prostitute murderer at large and French spies attempting to thwart the British at every turn, this historical thriller throws Irving and Rose into a frantic world of espionage, sex, betrayal and violence as they fight to secure the future of the British Empire in India.
This farcical play follows the exploits of three knights in an ethereal mediaeval age. When a king challenges noblemen to win the hand of his feisty daughter, a medley of antics ensue. The princess's true love is also desperate to win the king's trial, with the help of a vilified dragon, who is supposed to be the quarry. The play, told from the princess's perspective, is a foray into the old English language, inspired by William Shakespeare and designed to entertain those who enjoy the playful aspects of our language and its literary devices.
