Alternatives: Khansa has decided to learn magic, in an effort to reduce the risks when the inevitable confrontation with Muthis occurs. At first, Behena encourages this interest, until she learns that Khansa may be even better at magic than she is.However, due to a magical mistake by Khansa, something very unusual occurs. Nebat, Ipu, Behena and Khansa find themselves magically transported to an alien place. This new world is familiar, but also unfamiliar at the same time. They make their way to Hawa's house, but find him radically altered. Also, Doga is no longer the pharaoh. To make things right, Behena and her companions set out to retrace a mission they had previously undergone, but would they be able to complete it? And, if they were on another world, would Hawa be able to find a spell to return them? Shadows: Behena is having dreams. Bad dreams. Dreams of shadow monsters, attacking everything in sight. Could Muthis, the renegade magician, be behind these nightmares? Or is it a portent of what is to come? Whatever it happens to be, Behena and her friends decide that something drastic has to be done about it.So, in order to stop Muthis from creating any magical mischief, they decide on a bold plan to disrupt things. They use an unprecedented method. A seemingly absurd, crazy, insane method. But it appears to work. In fact, it may work even a little too well.Despite everything, Behena finds herself pitted against her dream shadow monsters, with the life of her friends in the balance. If she fails, then the entire city, and the lives of everyone living there, would be in the utmost danger.
Captive: Thanks to Eyes, the bird that Behena has trained to spy on Doga and Muthis, Behena realizes that Doga is planning another nefarious scheme. However, to her frustration, she can't discover what it is. But, in the meantime, to their mutual delight, by using Eyes to carry messages, Behena is finally able to contact her mother. But Behena's inability to determine what Doga is doing is soon partially rectified, although this knowledge leads to a perilous situation. Behena is forced to flee from the house, when the royal guards come seeking all of the city's young girls. Such a mass abduction seems incomprehensible to Behena and her companions, and it makes them wonder why Doga is committing such a bizarre action. What is he going to do with all of the girls? And will Behena and Khansa be able to escape his clutches?Doga's evil plan is finally revealed, and, to counteract it, Behena and her friends have to resort to a remarkably dangerous solution. Conflicted: Behena is worried about Doga's lack of action. She feels that he is planning something, but she can't identify what it might be. However, in the meantime, she finds herself under surveillance by a stranger who is dressed rather strangely. He eventually hands her a peculiar token, which makes her concluded that he might be a member of a secret society that is planning to depose Doga. This conclusion is fortified by a dream, where she recognizes the mysterious man who has been watching her. Using one of her trained birds, and aided by Hawa's spell, she determines where and when this society meets, and she determines to join a meeting to see if she can recruit these people as possible allies in her fight to overthrow Doga's rule.Behena, along with Nebat, manage to participate in a society meeting, and find the members to be somewhat fanatical in their hatred of Doga. They are also extremely secretive, and reluctant to tell Behena their plans. However, they ask her to join them in a palace raid. Behena accepts, offering to lead the members, since she is the one most familiar with the palace corridors. But she's conflicted, desperately wondering if undertaking this mission is really the right thing to do.The raid begins, and initially, all goes well. But they soon run into an insurmountable problem which not even Behena can solve. The leader of the secret society then suggests a horrifying solution. It's a solution so unthinkable that Behena instantly rejects it. As a result, Behena and her friends have to flee for their lives.
Tomb Robbers: Behena and Nebat are still being chased by the royal guards. However, a new threat soon appears, in the shape of various groups of robbers. At first, their presence in the city is a mystery, but Behena soon concludes that they intend to loot a nearby tomb, under the guidance of the new pharaoh. Nebat and Behena, with the reluctant assistance of the thief, Ipu, pledge to stop them. How they were going to do this seemed to be impossible, until Behena hatches an audacious plan. This plan of hers will prove to be dangerous, foolhardy and wildly impractical, but she is determined to do it anyway. Nebat and Ipu are persuaded to accompany her, and together, they put her plan into action. However, not everything goes smoothly. A sudden earthquake becomes both a blessing and a curse, as they struggle to escape the robbers. Then comes the question of how to spy on the palace in order to discover what Doga, the new pharaoh, has in mind for them.Once again, Behena hatches an answer to this particular problem, but her solution is as bizarre as it is innovative. But will it work? Fear: Behena, and her brother Nebat, are still trying to hide from Doga, the usurper Pharaoh. However, something quite unusual is about to happen to Ipu, the boy thief, with whom they share a residence. Ipu is stunned by a sudden revelation from his childhood and finds himself at a crossroads in his life.Meanwhile, Behena is dreaming, and not enjoying it in the least. She has been envisioning someone she soon calls "The Shadow Man', and, even while asleep, she realizes his evil nature. All too soon, her dreams reveal that a horror is about to be unleashed on the city, and she has been chosen to destroy it. But, knowing only basic magic, will she be able to complete her task? Hawa, the magician, pledges to help her, but will his help be enough?
