Clarimonde (1836), también conocido como Clarimonde, la Morte Amoureuse, es un relato clásico de temática vampÃrica, escrito por el autor francés Théophile Gautier. Dentro de la literatura vampÃrica victoriana, esta historia ocupa un lugar destacado, siendo cronológicamente la segunda importante de su género, precedida por El Vampiro (1819), de John William Polidori, y seguida por Carmilla (1872), de Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. Estas tres obras son, sin duda, las que dieron origen a la figura romántica del Vampiro y a la literatura moderna de temática vampÃrica, inspirando en 1897 las novelas de Drácula, de Bram Stoker, y La Sangre del Vampiro, de Florence Marryat. Entre ellas, Clarimonde destaca por su lirismo y sus bellas y elaboradas descripciones, asà como por presentar una figura vampÃrica que, aunque poseedora de elementos comunes con otros vampiros de la literatura, tiene sus propias particularidades y su propia personalidad. CLARIMONDE: "El dÃa de su ordenación como sacerdote, el inocente Romuald descubre a una bella mujer entre la multitud, quedando completamente embelesado y obsesionado. Las señales y palabras de la hermosa Clarimonde perseguirán a Romuald dÃa y noche, mientras él intenta con todas sus fuerzas adaptarse a su nueva vida como sacerdote, consignando su amor a Dios y no a la angelical cortesana.
