The Kybalion: A Study of The Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece is a concise and elegant treatise on occultism and High Magic in Greece and Egypt. Here you will be introduced to the Seven Hermetic Principles, a foundation upon which one can build their own personal spiritual path.
The Kybalion: Hermetic Philosophy, originally published in 1908 by a person or persons under the pseudonym of "the Three Initiates", is a book claiming to be the essence of the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus. The Kybalion was first published by the Yogi Publication Society. Purportedly based upon ancient Hermeticism, its philosophies, in conjunction with others, have become founding pillars within the New Thought movement of the early 1910s. The book early on makes the claim that it makes its appearance in one's life when the time is appropriate and includes axioms and insights similar to those found in the Book of Proverbs. The Kybalion is divided into mentalism, correspondence, vibration, polarity, rhythm, gender, and cause and affect. Based upon ancient Hermeticism, the philosophies became founding pillars within the New Thought movement of the early 1910s.
The "Three Initiates" who authored The Kybalion chose to remain anonymous. As a result, a great deal of speculation has been made about who actually wrote the book. The most common proposal is that The Kybalion was authored by William Walker Atkinson (1862 -1932), either alone or with others, such as Paul Foster Case (1884 -1954) and Elias Gewurz . The Kybalion is based on the extensive research and study of the world-old Hermetic Teachings. The book has dedicated to everyone interested in Secret Doctrines. There has been so little written upon this subject, not withstanding the countless references to the Teachings in the many works upon occultism, that the many earnest searchers after the Arcane Truths will doubtless welcome the appearance of this present volume. The purpose of this work is not the enunciation of any special philosophy or doctrine, but rather is to give to the students a statement of the Truth that will serve to reconcile the many bits of occult knowledge that they may have acquired, but which are apparently opposed to each other and which often serve to discourage and disgust the beginner in the study. Our intent is not to erect a new Temple of Knowledge, but rather to place in the hands of the student a Master-Key with which he may open the many inner doors in the Temple of Mystery through the main portals he has already entered. This special volume is a companion to the feature-length documentary, The Kybalion, starring occult scholar Mitch Horowitz and directed by award-winning filmmaker Ronni Thomas. In addition to the complete classic text, Mitch's new introduction highlights themes in the book and documentary, and it guides seekers through the occult work's authentic connections to the Hermetic philosophy of Ancient Egypt. In his introduction, Mitch explains how he came to understand The Kybalion as an authentic retention of esoteric Egyptian ideas-and how the insights of the ancients can remake your life and search today. Is The Kybalion a real expression of Hermeticism? Yes, Mitch answers-but, as with all things Hermetic, the answer is never quite as simple as it seems.Discover-or rediscover-what The Kybalion offers you in this powerful companion edition. Some of the book's concepts about mind, matter, and thought-creativity demonstrate genuine resonance with the ideas of Hermetic antiquity. This is no a small matter. The Kybalion . . . connects modern seekers, however tenuously, to concepts that once motivated acolytes from a vastly removed era. -Mitch Horowitz, GNOSIS: Journal of Gnostic Studies
