Daily Encounters with God is a devotional book that can be used by an individual or a group. This book is a study on the Attributes of God. Each chapter covers an attribute, scripture references, a personal God Encounter by the author, discussion questions for a life application, and a prayer. As you study the attributes of God, you will understand more clearly how God interacts with us in our daily lives. Sometimes we are aware of these encounters, but often we are not. It is in our "remembering" that we can put all the pieces of the puzzle together and see God at work. In running the race set before us, we often get discouraged, but it is in the times of suffering and trials that we grow the most in our faith, if we will only persevere. When we see God's hand involved, we become even more determined to run our best race. As you study each devotion, I pray you will be inspired, encouraged, and realize God has a perfect plan for your life. When you recognize your own God Encounters, share them to help someone else in the marathon race called life! Vickie Tingwald was born in Missouri and raised in Iowa. Her and Gary moved their family to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1991. She has been a widow since 2018, when her husband Gary passed away after a seven-year battle with ALS. Vickie and Gary were married for 50 years and have 4 adult children and seven grandchildren. Vickie is a retired Assemblies of God US Missionary and Children's Pastor. Vickie has known suffering but remain sold out and radical for Jesus! Vickie has written two other books: "Finding Joy In The Journey" chronicles their family's ALS journey and "Finding Me" is about dealing with grief.
In every life and family, there is a story waiting to be told. In this book, our family would like to share with you one of our greatest discoveries. In our darkest hour of suffering, we found joy in the journey. We have learned many hard lessons and still have unanswered questions, but through it all, God was with us every step of the way. Each of us faced different giants to battle, but we can all say, we are stronger, more determined, and have a greater eternal perspective than ever before. On our worst days, we were not without hope and found true joy in knowing we were never alone. The one who fights our battles was right beside us all the way! Our prayer is that as you read this book, you will realize that you are never alone. We can know the same joy that Paul knew, a joy that while in prison, he could rejoice and praise God."e;Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God"e; (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV).
Finding Me is a book that chronicles a widow's grief and finding out who she is now, after the loss of her husband of 50 years. Like so many who have traveled down this road of discovery, we find our identity altered after many years of life together with someone. The journey is a difficult one, with both joy and sorrow. The book also takes you through the process of grief, that is an individual and unique experience for each of us who suffer loss. When we lose someone we love, we never really get over the loss, but we get through it as each day gets easier. Somehow the memories become your strength and give you the will to move forward. Your life is forever changed but to have known such a love is worth every moment of your grief. Together you were strong, now alone you must find out who you are with half of you missing! It is the author's desire that reading this book will ignite the joy in "the you" that is left and go on to discover that, the best is yet to come!
