La discordia impadronitasi dianzi, come vedemmo, de' consigli presbiteriani, s'era propagata successivamente fra i semplici soldati, nè v'era drappello d'essi, o corpo di guardia anco il men ragguardevole, ove lo studio di disputare spietatamente le controversie che teneano disgiunti quegli animi non prevalesse alla cura di vigilare sulle fazioni dell'inimico: e sì! sel vedeano vicinissimo, e ne udivano le trombe e i tamburi.
