"This pictorial is a collection of images that represents a small part of Rabaul history. Some of the imaged are a little distorted, many of these images are old and many have faded, many are over 100 years old. Rabaul was known as Simpsonhafen during the German New Guinea administration which controlled the area between 1884 and formally until 1919. From 1910, Rabaul was the headquarters of German New Guinea until captured by the British Empire during World War I, when it became the capital of the Australian mandated Territory of New Guinea until 1937 when it was first partly destroyed by volcanic action. During World War II it was occupied by the Japanese Empire in 1942, and it became the main base of Japanese military and naval activity in the South Pacific. During the years of the Japanese occupation ... the Allied forces destroyed the town by saturation bombing; no buildings were left standing, the beautiful old buildings and tree lined streets were all gone; it was like a painter with a new canvas ready to create something new. A new town did rise out of the destruction which became our town. To the many who lived and were born there, Rabaul forever holds a place in our hearts. Then in 1994, nineteen years after independence, the old town of Rabaul was practically reduced to insignificance by volcanic eruption. This [book] is about the town in our hearts"--Publisher description.

Susan Hunter is a brilliant but lazy student at the Harvard Business School, who has a long-term plan for succeeding at Harvard and getting a high-paying job with the absolute minimum of work. Her plans begin to awry when she receives an invitation for a job interview with Preston Marsh, the quirky millionaire who has built his fortune on oddball businesses from selling designer musical tones to harvesting coins in fountains. Marsh convinces Susan to abandon her path of least resistance to work in his new business called BMOC, which guarantees its student clients that it will make them popular. But nothing in the job description prepares Susan for getting sent to LA to investigate a young woman's suicide. Susan has to struggle to adapt her business school training to what increasingly appears to be a murder investigation, as a consortium of media companies, tort lawyers, and even a US Senator fight to hide the truth. And that was before they started shooting at her...

Granny is a part of me and a part of many others who lived in the Deep South some 50 years ago or more. Her ancestors were of Scottish & English Descent. She is "overindulged" with superstitions and folktales. This book is a compilation of 'sayings' and tales I have heard over the years. Most of them actually came from my Mother and my Grandmother; and are now being retold through Granny. Many of these sayings are commonly known, but may vary with their phrases or even their meanings
