Travel with Paoli Boy Scout Troop 1 on its 1956 paddle from Old Forge to Saranac Lake as documented in its recently discovered photo journal "The Adirondack Log", including a visit with Noah John Rondeau the Hermit of Cold River Flow.
This is not your ordinary cookbook but rather a storybook along with a healthy dose of culinary adventure sprinkled throughout like little gems. Each chapter highlights a charming look back at an Adirondack site, or camp, and the people associated with it, from the 1890s to recent times, and ends with appealing recipes. In each chapter someone bakes or cooks something that fits into the story and then that recipe is given at the end.
Originally published in 1997, this Adirondack classic features Richard Smith's story as he told it to William J. O'Hern in his home, on the trail, at his rustic camp called Singing Pines, and wherever they chanced to get together. Life With Noah describes a vanished way of life and tells of the friendship between Richard and the Adirondacks' last hermit, Noah John Rondeau. Through the reminiscences of Richard and his friends, O'Hern has reconstructed Smith's life in the Cold River-Duck Hole Country where he went to trap, hunt, fish, and live in his own way.
