In setting out to write It Is You, I asked myself if I can write about the Father of the world, Jesus Christ, and even mention God, the Architect of the creation of the entire universe. And they are realities in the world outside the world of fiction as they are in the world that everyone knows to exist. Why can't I write about things that I know to exist of which I have been a part of, not necessarily because they are as I craft them in the novel? And I came up with an answer: no reason! That is why I have mentioned the great citadel of learning-the University of Ibadan that produced me, the way that Ekine Amabara attended it-and a few other situations like that, notably the city of Port Harcourt, which I have fictionalized in a number of my other creative efforts. Everything here, however, is fiction through and through and bear no true allegiance to any person, dead or alive, or to any situation of which I or anyone else that I know was a part of. In the same way as any work of fiction that I created, where I may decide to give characters my names and all the places that are true and real about me, it will not be about me but just plain fiction. Here is my alibi: my name or the place-names here or any situation, or situations, that approximated what is true in the world that we know are but coincidences and coincidences only and are not true but creations of the figments of my restless imagination.

  • - Guided Light for Spiritual Seekers
    av Sharanya Dinesh
    263,-

Dear all, Disha Prabha is the connecting link of this series and has a special significance too. Thus, I commence this series with the etymology of the name. When we (the lazy, intellectual better half that I am married to and the earnest me) were searching for an ideal name for my counseling practice, we tried various permutations and combinations, for a word or phrase that meant 'to throw light on' or 'to guide' or 'to give direction' because as a counselor, that was my ideal job description. The other thought which we were consciously coming back to was a name that would have the family members in it (the four of us), so that one name would suffice as our house sign board and my practice title. Thus, Disha Prabha came into being. Disha means direction or way, and Praha means illumination or radiance. This was just perfect; counselling is all about 'lighting the way' or lending 'radiance to direction.' More importantly, Disha is a combination of Di, Dinesh (the boss of the family), and Sha, Sharanya (the author). Prabha is put together with Pra, Pranav (our son), and Bha, Bhargavi (our daughter). So in unanimous consensus, we chose this name. Most of my writings are experiences or moments shared with these three people. It is but obvious that they make an appearance everywhere in this book and all the other books that will follow. This book is the first of the Disha Prabha series. And I give my thanks to Sahaj Marg (the meditation path I follow and teach). My Disha received Prabha from this path, and I owe everything to this path.

This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of adolescents living with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and how society perceives them. T1DM is a chronic condition characterized by abnormally high blood glucose due to lack of insulin production by the cells in the pancreas. The treatment is insulin injections or infusions, as there is no medical cure at the moment. More specifically, the study examined how the adolescents manage the illness and cope with the perception and stigmatization related to this condition. Despite the existence of research into living and coping with some chronic conditions, research on TIDM, particularly using qualitative methodologies, is limited. A review in literature also indicated insufficient studies on stigma associated with chronic conditions that have no overt symptoms.In-depth interviews were conducted with nine diverse volunteers after obtaining informed consent (five females and four males). The volunteers were aged between sixteen to nineteen years with a duration of diabetes at a minimum of two years since diagnosis. An analysis of interview results was based on ground theory methodology whereby many categories were generated. From these two core categories, which are assimilation and accommodation, stigmatization emerged. These represent the adolescents' attempt to cope with the experience of living with TIDM and the views of society on this condition with no visible physical abnormalities. Parts of the implications of these findings confirm that medical model management needs to consider psychosocial aspects in order to facilitate adjustment to the chronic condition. Further qualitative research using a bigger sample over a longer period was recommended. The DAWN study (attitudes, wishes, and needs in diabetes) has since been carried out.

  • - Gerry Dyer's Travel Diary
    av Joyce Wiltshire
    173

Like most children, I used to keep a diary full of mundane happenings, which seemed so important at the time but are now lost forever.By the time I was a teenager, the futility of these little jottings became obvious, and I dropped the habit. After all, even though it was wartime, there were other things to do-nights out with the boys from the company, a vague interest in the female species and a large interest in consuming many pints of whatever ghastly brew was available in the local hostelries. Cycling was the thing in those days. One's most treasured possession was a highly polished cycle kept in the peak of condition by much elbow grease. This was your mobile release from the dull suburbs to the open country. Petrol was nonexistent for the private motorist and, in any case, those could afford a car. Later, when the war was over and a small basic ration was available, some of my friends did manage to purchase motorbikes. The post war years saw the roads to the West Country packed with intrepid motorcyclists, all in their protective gear, basing down the twisty roads to the places that had been denied to us for all those wearisome war years.By this time, I was going steady with Beryl, and partly through parental pressure, I never did own a motorbike. My parents thought that riding a motorbike was tantamount to signing your own death warrant. Perhaps, they were right. Anyway, I stuck to my cycle. In 1944, I had my first holiday away from my parents, and Beryl and I cycled the 110 miles to Wells in Somerset. This, in memory, is one of the most precious weeks in all my life. The weather was fine and hot. We cycled all over the place, fell in love with the noble beauty of Wells Cathedral, visited Cheddar before the motor coach invasion commenced, and enjoyed a week of sheer bliss. On the way home, I remember resting in a field near Westbury in Wiltshire, and suddenly, the tears streamed down my face my throat felt as if it would choke. My wise little Beryl knew what was wrong; it was the thought of leaving the blessed peace of Somerset and the end of our first wonderful joyous holiday together. Many glorious holidays have come since. The first all those years ago is still remembered with a clarity that transcends time. What's all this got to do with a diary? Patience. All will be revealed in this book.- Gerry Dyer

Alexander the Great was born in 356 BC and died in 323 BC. By the age of thirty, he had created one of the largest empires of the ancient world, stretching from Greece to Northwest India. The first part is the story of the lost prince, which is part of the collection of half-mythical stories written in Bahasa Indonesia generated by the historical Alexander's meteoric rise and fall. It comes to us via Persian romances and later mentions the two-horned Alexander who is mentioned in the Holy Koran. These legends probably arrived in Malaysia brought by Muslim Indian merchants via Aceh. They wanted spices and pepper and traded them for silks and embroidered clothes. I am indebted to my former colleagues, Irene Mutto and Sudeshni Iachimpadi, who worked on the massive task of translating into English the Indonesian text collected by the Dutch scholar Van Leeuwen in the 1930s and also to Joe Stantor of Stantography and Wendy Kirby of the Glossop Craft Centre for their technical assistance. This edition has simplified Alexander's story so children can enjoy it too and colour in the illustrations themselves. For the full text in English and Bahasa Indonesia, I refer you to my earlier book: The Malay Alexander Legend (ISBN: 9781467882798).

Discover, part I of a three-part book, helps teenagers to grow in self-discovery, in their passions, and in their dreams. It also allows them to deal with low self-esteem, fear, and bullying, and it teaches them to develop a positive self-image. In this book, teenagers will learn to understand different concepts, such as purpose, gift, skill, potential, friendship, job, passion, and much more. Transform, part II of a three-part book, shows teenagers how to be transformed and how to understand the process required to grow from within and become a person who displays character and good values. This part helps teenagers to picture themselves as leaders who take ownership of their choices and who apply concepts and principles that teach them how to become more responsible. Influence, part III of a three-part book, teaches teenagers to influence the world in which they live and to grow in the concept of leadership. The world needs future leaders who understand good values and exemplify character; leaders who serve their people without selfish motives and who love the people around them. In this part, teenagers will learn to change their mindset about how to become successful and how to positively influence their communities. Indeed, teenagers are looking for inspiration; they are looking for something different that will change their self-paradigms and how they see the world. Hopefully, having this book in schools as part of the curriculum will help teenagers become global citizens of tomorrow. I believe that through this books, teachers, parents, and teenagers will be inspired, transformed, and motivated to become better versions of themselves. It would benefit schools to balance theory with practice and allow students to discover themselves. These parts are mixed with inspirational quotes, self-developing topics, and coaching questions to allow teenagers to discover where they are in life and focus on what they want to accomplish. This book is teenager-friendly and will guide teens to understand the action steps they need to take in order to embrace their destinies.

This slim volume was written in an attempt to help reduce the fading spiritual aspirations in our times. It is an old story told afresh and offers glimpses into the lives of a group of dedicated people who made a difference in society many years ago and whose influence and dedication is well able to navigate us today. There are others who deserve mention; however, we shall confine ourselves to these noble few.

  • - An Urban Novel
    av A-Jay Green
    193

Victoria Park is an urban novel with a hip-hop flavor running right through the storyline. Taking center stage is an extended UK family - the Blakeways, the Johnsons and the Barnbrooks. Tug and C-Jay Blakeway are basketball fans who make regular trips to the USA to watch this sport. The Barnbrooks' best friend Margo Turner is an opinionated and bigoted woman who gives no quarter, and as the dramatic events unfold, Margo's adversary, Benson Harris, a teen boy of Caribbean heritage searching for his identity, gets embroiled in an ever more dangerous scenario. While crime and drama keep readers on the edge of their seats, this novel also depicts everyday family events which resonate so clearly with ordinary life. An industrial region in the UK is the primary setting, but there are scenes from overseas locations too. Spectator sport is a passion; both pro football (soccer) and college basketball are featured as the various family members travel far and wide to support their teams.

  • - The Movie
    av Shaun Donovan
    277

'Bat out of Hell -The Movie', is the true story of one man's quest to create an epic feature-length film which he truly believes will be the 'movie to end all movies'. Based on the best-selling paperback 'Jupiter's Travel's', by Ted Simon', which tells the true story of this man's unbelievable four-year motorcycle journey around the world, Shaun Donovan attempts to recapture the spirit of the now legendary 'Easy Rider' movie, by combining all the thrills and spills which Ted encompassed along the way, into one blockbuster production -a movie which will set the hearts of bikers around the world alight, as he rekindles their passions for a life of freedom on the road. Armed with a hand-written manuscript, a home-made movie poster -and a soundtrack that should simply blow Ted away, Shaun flies 6,000 miles to the home of Mr. Simon, where he proudly presents the 'Sales pitch of his life'. After listening to various tunes, Ted agrees how uncanny it is that the lyrics in the songs from Meat-Loafs now legendary 'Bat out of Hell' album could easily portray actual scenes taken from Ted's storyline -and so the stage was now set. Over the next twelve months Shaun embarked on a quest that would involve numerous meetings with the heads of various film and television companies across the UK, before a twist in the tale occurs, when it is suggested that Shaun retrace Ted's journey from start to finish, subsequently creating a six-part documentary series for BBC television, entitled 'Steps of Jupiter -20 years on'. Apart from planning and preparing an 8,000-mile 'solo' motorcycle journey from Cardiff to Cape-Town, read how Shaun also drives the length and breadth of California, before crossing borders into Mexico, and also how he circumnavigates the state of Florida in search of a new life for him and his family, as he desperately tries to cling-on to what is left of his failing marriage, before it is too late! 'Bat out of hell -The Movie' is a compelling manuscript, taken from diaries written by Shaun during the twenty six months he was out of work -a time when he was completely penniless, and all that he had left to hang on to was a dream -a dream which he was determined to turn into a reality.

This Book, this Essay began as a response to Peter Berger et al's , 'The Homeless Mind', and their concerns for the influence of Modernism on Societies. My interests and focus is both broader and wider; taking in the intellectual roots of western sociology and the earliest historical roots of the European Home; drawing on; Sociological Biography, Phenomenology, Multiple Realities, DIY techniques, Philosophy, Poetry, Consciousness and Spirituality, also with brief references to my cat! Usually each one of these would stand alone, perhaps as a conventional essay. But to combine them into a single entity, and to maintain a 'flow' between ideas with varied resonances, required something more integrative; in this case derived from the spirit of Husserl's phenomenology, the Epoque, freely applied throughout, not only to signify the tentativeness of personal opinion, but also as an example of multiple realities, and as tributaries of thought and beliefs feeding the great river of civilisation. The "Homely Mind', of the title of this essay is one, more of a certain hope than achievement, as it might possibly be in most cases of all times and all places. So in the meantime, the best we can do is to endeavour to 'keep the home fires burning' as that sign of the 'sacred flame of life'.

Peace in a troubled worldI hope that reading this book will give you some inspiration to do some writing yourselves. I have aimed it at people who suffer mental health issues, but I would like to think that anybody, whatever their background, will find it of some interest too.My interest of English fairy folklore and pagan Britain, I find it truly fascinating. Writing this short story have really helped me think about the kind of world and what path I would like to take in the future.A nature based religion is the way forward in my opinion. I would like to think that in the near future, all religions of the world could live in peace as one. There would be no more wars and bloodshed. We would all live in peace. We can only live in hope. Blessed be.

This book aims to encourage communities and nations to revitalize. Tomorrow must be better than today. Is not truth stronger than a lie, love stronger than hate, togetherness stronger than division, and life stronger than death? The message in this book is a reminder that we build our own inner world and that consciousness is our guide. Though deceptive practices abound in society, we do well not to rest from the task of creating a better world. By the grace of God, our eyes will be opened to the human potential and the world of rational thought. It is not until our own inner world has matured that the outer world be settled.

  • - Poetry & Pattern
    av Michael Carding
    156

Michael Carding has not moved from being a mathematician to a poet; rather poetry has grown and been nurtured in the fertile bed of pattern. From the music of Bach to the structure of DNA, from learning a new language to Gareth Southgate's 3-5-2, pattern is the holy grail. Michael has used pattern as the key-stone to gather this eclectic collection into a coherent volume. In mathematics, a line can be straight or curved, continuous or broken, finite or infinite. A line of poetry can stand on its own, develop an idea, change the direction of thought, reach a conclusion or invite our imaginations into the unknown. In fact, it can be straight or curved, continuous or broken, finite or infinite! These poems start with birth, finish with death and visit a few places en route. Life Lines and Cross Lines betray a belief that life on earth is not the full extent of our line. In Longitude and Latitude Michael writes about places, how they affect him and what messages they hold for us all. He teases us with riddles and Converging Lines celebrate the juxtaposition of unlikely partners. Head Lines may already be obsolete yet Lineage & Heritage is proof that some material is never outdated. Finally, there are Punch Lines. "Anyone who knows me will have predicted, with a resigned smile, that I will have snuck some humour between the covers!"
