In every country of Europe and America, there is a remarkable fraction of the adult population (sometimes near 50 per cent) whose needs are met with taxpayers' money. This situation is so common, and we are so used to it that nobody dares to propose an alternative. On the other hand, the State creates unproductive jobs for certain classes of people and makes itself the protector of specific sectors of the economy when companies risk insolvency. We are talking about the transfer of wealth from the people who create it to pure consumers of resources. The later ones we call free-riders. This book treats this matter in connection with the electoral process, the abusive stretching of well-established political concepts, the use of pseudoscience, and the alliance between free-riders and rent-seekers. For sure, it is doubtful that it will be possible to feed such a sizeable inactive population for a long time. However, the author abstains himself of any proposal for a change. His only aim is to explain how we arrived at the present situation and where the foundations of the current equilibrium stay.

Born in 1994 from Mukamurekezi and Nkubito, the 3-month-old Muhoza miraculously survives the genocide against Tutsi in which her family is exterminated by Interahamwe militia. Rescued by an education inspector, Muhoza resiliently fights the odds to become one of the most talented and intelligent kids in the country. The education inspector, who later becomes the mayor of a district and a minister, adopts Muhoza and raises her as her own daughter. She has no idea that she is a survivor of the genocide against the Tutsi and an adopted kid until she learns it thirteen years later on a journey to the United States of America. The family that adopted Muhoza will play an important role in her psychological and physical development. This family is a true embodiment and sign of how parental love transforms everything and makes a difference. Muhoza represents a generation that was born during the genocide and together with her compatriots, her ambition is to transform the nation for good and forever. She is a true incarnation of her simple mother Mukamurekezi, who is traumatized, harassed, and arrested because she teaches students that they are the same - teachings that contradict those of a segregating government. Mukamurekezi is eventually killed but she lives forever in her daughter, Muhoza.

  • - 2019 Flat Season
    av Jake Colclough
    275,-

Welcome to the guide for 2019. It contains fifty horses that are coming into their three-year-old seasons-colts or fillies, potential classic winners or useful handicappers in the making. The aim of the guide is to supply us with as many winners in the 2019 season as possible. To aid our search for winners, we look back into the horses' juvenile campaigns and analyse their runs as well as a potential rating to pinpoint target races months in advance as well as have a small insight to a few of the stables.Last year, we were blessed with a thrilling crop of three-year-old champion fillies. Alpha Centauri swept to save the mile division for Mrs. John Harrington and the Niarchos family, the multigroup 1 winning fillies Sea of Class, and Laurens for William Haggas and Karl Burke respectively. And the St. Leger runner-up Lah Ti Dah from that beautifully bred family of Oaks winner Dar Re Mi, trained by John Gosden. The difficult agenda we have on our hands is that out of that crop of high class three-year-olds, only two of them raced as juveniles. Sea of Class was a late foal, and Lah Ti Dar wasn't given her debut until April at Newmarket. However, I believe we have seen enough to give us a proper insight to the British Classics of 2019.Now, why three-year-olds? This is the most exciting year in a horses' racing career as their potential is unknown, and an improving horse can be very valuable to keep onside-for example, the crop of fillies. If you backed each and every one of their runs to a ten-pound stake you would be £495.90 better off for it. Last season at this stage we had already seen the Guineas winner (8/1, Saxon Warrior) and the Derby winner (Masar), and that is more than enough for me, and hopefully, you to delve into this year's crop. The guide will include some of the top performers from the juvenile season, but generally, any racing watcher could throw a list together of highly rated horses together. So my aim-on top of the superstars-is to give us a group of three-year-olds that will come on from their two-year-old campaigns and hopefully finish off a better rating come the end of the year than the mark they started on, which should give us a nice crop of winners for the coming 2019 flat season.

  • av Jane Arthur Dickson-Watt

Most grandchildren are presently too busy with plastic friends on iPhones to listen to or chat with grandparents. I hope that one day, one of mine will spare a little time to read Jane's movements through thirteen schools in wartorn Scotland from 1934 to 1956. Jane was the second and accidental daughter of a Scottish Lanarkshire dairy farmer. Her father's wealth was gained from all the living children (five, plus three who died young and one in the Great War). He left school at nine years to work at home on the twice-daily, unremitting drudgery of a nineteenth-century dairy farm. His first sighting of his baby Jane invoked the memorable words of this title with as much misbelief and disdain as only a farmer could. Well, Daddy, so far I have lived thirty-two years longer than you, without the cows and a farm, because you so prematurely left us.

  • - Insight into Psychotherapeutic Practice
    av Nevenka Podgornik Pulec
    207,-

In its theoretical starting points, the book presents the socioanthropological understanding of psychic crises phenomena in modern society-on the individual's and larger society's level. It studies mental health as a social and psychological phenomenon, and it exposes the psychic crises that are characteristic of modern society. In the continuation, the book's distinguishing features include a presentation of examples from the author's therapeutic practice, a presentation in the form of a dialogue, the analysis of the therapeutic treatment through the therapist's internal dialogue, and the final analysis of the present case. The cases are valuable material for the understanding of the individual, his/her distress, and the search for solutions within the frame of the psychotherapeutic and psychosocial help model. The book is designed for people who suffer from psychic crises, their family members, psychosocial counselling and psychotherapy students, and also counsellors and psychotherapists-simply, to all those who want to contribute to an individual's and the society's mental health with knowledge and experience.

  • - The Swinging Sixties in the North Book Ii
    av Adrienne Fox
    179,-

The author returns to her northern home to take up a lectureship in music and drama in a college. The repressive atmosphere generated by her father's intensely religious beliefs and her mother's controlling instincts soon make her wish to escape the severe parental restrictions. But how to flee, and where? She calculates that there are two possible alternatives: a sugar daddy or marriage. She finds both but then is faced with the choice of where to cast her lot. The selection is difficult, and for a few months, she juggles between the two men. Both men are musicians, and mutual links are easily forged; however doubt coupled with her lack of self-esteem haunt the scenario. Her parents are ready to disapprove of anyone on any grounds-class, religion, education, looks, height, or weight. Finding a suitable bloke in their eyes would be impossible. This novel tells of the trials and tribulations of her choice where wry black humor depicts her plight. What is a musical sexually liberated sixties girl supposed to do when she is suddenly deposited in a tightly knit, censorious community within the confines of the Northeast? Sadly she doesn't behave well. Read on and please don't judge too harshly.

This is a serious message to the church. The Lord gave this deep revelation of the heavenly home and his desire to take us there just after getting rid of Judas. This message was meant to be a comfort to the remaining disciples who had been true to him while he walked on earth. Jesus does not share deep secrets with everyone. He gives all men a chance to choose him, but he does not force himself on any man. Judas had walked with the Lord for three-and-a-half years. He had seen all the miracles, and when he was sent out to cast out demons, he also had demonstrated power under special grace, but he made a choice to walk away from that grace and betray the King of kings. He is one man who kissed the door to heaven but still went to hell. How sad.

Phantasmagoria is a very pacy, thoughtfully engaging, imaginative, and poetically charged, spirited commentary of observational wit and theosophical wordplay of riveting humour poured into a sequence of real or imaginary ideas that are constantly shifting and affecting us all within a complex succession of daily events.

  • - A Short Series of Verse, for Those Lost in the Great War
    av Jack D Harrison
    286,-

Lines of Remembrance was published especially for 2018. It is perhaps the most significant year to us ever, and rightly so, because it marks the end of five years of centenary events based around the Great War. Siegfried Sassoon's poem "Aftermath" (published during the 1920s), asks "Have you forgotten yet?" This book helps answer that question (at least from the author's perspective). It is hoped that we will never forget the sacrifices and hardships of everyone involved during the years 1914-18 and for those left behind at home. Lines of Remembrance partly serves as a second volume to Jack's first book (of verse) and is also well suited to fit the sombre and, for many, the bleak season of autumn, with thoughts of the end of long summer days, and the cold, dark winter nights ahead. What better book, then, to curl up with during those long, dark nights? Engendering thoughts of those lost before their time, during 1914-18 and for all wars and conflicts. Thoughts also of ghosts and memories of those no longer alive but still with us, in spirit. But there are some reminders of happy times, of summer and, for some, better times. Let us also remember that for many people today, the approach of autumn and winter brings feelings of dread and (often) loneliness. It is not a collection of ghost stories, though they're included, to help remember the dead (friends, loved ones, and others). Nor is it a book about the Great War, though the author hopes we will never forget, keeping faith with them, to ensure they rest. Lines of Remembrance is meant as the author's intention to never forget and to keep that faith. Only you, the reader, can determine whether that intention succeeds. With complements,Jack D. • - Dyslexia Matters
    av Harvinder Doal

This book indicates my life experience with dyslexia as a student and how it has affected my education and social life. It also identifies that schools/colleges need not to neglect someone who has symptoms of a potential special educational need or learning difficulty and investigate it as soon as symptoms are noticed. The reason to why these need to be investigated is also highlighted in the book and how the diagnosis turned my life around. Employers also need to work around the needs of an employee who has any form of difficulty of performing high standards of work and providing necessary equipment, which is illustrated in the book. This book shows how to do it.

  • - New Cat on the Dock

    202,-

This is a tale about a battle for survival between the feline families that roamed and scavenged on the docklands of Liverpool soon after World War II and the vicious rodent hordes. Food is scarce, fights to the death are frequent, and the rodents fighting in large numbers are murderous in their attempts to kill as many kittens as possible to keep the cat families small in number. The leader of the rat pack, Retsina, an extremely clever and meticulous rat, is a freak of nature because of his size. He is a giant among the rodents. There is one large cat family who are a match for rats. They are the fighting Flynns who are led by Feral Flynn, a giant ginger tom, fearless and brave. He looks after his clan well. Battles up to now are even. Then one night, a new cat hero emerges, a loner who is soon to become the hero among the felines, a scourge on the rodents, who is sharp as a pin, ridiculously cute, and braver and swifter than any feline. He has arrived. Who is this stranger Pancho the Cat? Where did he come from?

This book is about Methuselah Tyker, who was born in Serowe village, which is about 250 kilometers from Gaborone in Botswana. Born on the seventeenth of July 1939, he was an only child. His grandparents brought him up because he became an orphan at twelve years old. Methuselah grew up as an orphan but was determined to seek revenge. Chief Muyabwo gave his parents a death sentence after they had been accused of bewitching one of the villager's daughters, Sarah. The accusations were unjustified and could not be conclusive. Chief Muyabwo ruled Serowe village for fifty years and was well-known for his callousness. Pitiless as he was, he would not try to rationalize complaints from villagers. He took any issues regarding witchcraft very seriously. Villagers were put to task when there were any reports involving witchcraft. Also, he had a weakness of taking other people's wives. Anyone who knew Chief Muyabwo was aware of his cruelty and poor treatment of villagers. He was quite a powerful person with his own police, and he had the right to make his own judgments about villagers. He had been given the powers by the government. He was paid by the government for doing the job, but the government did not realize that he had taken the law into his hands. Methuselah believed in getting revenge for what had happened to his parents. It took him a long time, but in the end he did it.
