வள்ளலாரும் அருட்பாவும் என்பது கி. ஆ. பெ. விசுவநாதம் எழுதிய நூல். இந் நூலுக்கு ஜி ஆர் தாமோதரன் அணிந்துரை எழுதியுள்ளார். 19ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் தோன்றி பெரும் சமய புரட்சி செய்த வள்ளலார் பற்றியும் அவர் எழுதிய அருட்பா பற்றியும் எழுதப்பட்ட நூல் இது. முதல் 27 பக்கங்களில் வள்ளலாரின் வாழ்க்கைக் குறிப்பை எளிய நடையில் அளிக்கிறார். பின்பு மீதி உள்ள பக்கங்கள் அனைத்திலும் சமூக மற்றும் சமய நெறியில் அருட்பாவின் சிறப்புகளை எடுத்துரைக்கிறார்.

கலைமகள் ஆசிரியர் உயர்திரு கி. வா. ஜகந்நாதன் அவர்களைத் தமிழ் உலகம் நன்றாக அறியும். இணையற்ற ஆசிரியராக விளங்கும் அவர்கள் அவ்வப்போது குழந்தைகளுக்காக எழுதிய கதைகள் இவை. தமிழ்த் தாத்தா டாக்டர் உ. வே. சாமிநாதையர் அவர்களுடைய அன்புக்குகந்த மாணவராகப் பயின்ற ஆசிரியர் அவர்கள் அந்த மரபிலேயே தமிழ் மணத்தைப் பெரியவர் களுக்கு மட்டுமல்ல, இளைஞர்களுக்கும், மாணவர்களுக்குங்கூடப் பல ஆண்டுகளாகப் பரப்பி வருகிறர்கள். தித்திக்கும் இந்தக் கதைகளை வெளியிடுவதில் மிக மிகப் பெருமையடைகிறோம். குழந்தைகள் இவற்றை விருப்புடன் சுவைப்பார்கள் என்பதை நன்கு அறிவோம். மேலும் ஆசிரியர் அவர்களுடைய இன்னோரு தொகுப்பு விரைவில் வெளிவரும் என்ற செய்தியை மகிழ்ச்சியோடு தெரிவித்துக்கொள்கிறோம்.

காலத்தில் இப்படி விளங்கியது என்று சொல்வது வாழ்க்கை வரலாறு பிற்காலத்தில் புகழ்பெற்று வாழ்ந்த பெரியவர்களின் குழந்தைப் பருவ நிகழ்ச்சிகளே அவர்களுடைய வரலாறுகளிலிருந்து அறிகிறோம். விளையும் பயிர் முளையிலே தெரியும் என்ற பழமொழியை உண்மைப் படுத்தும் நிகழ்ச்சிகளைப் பெரும்பாலும் அந்த வரலாறுகளிலேக் காணலாம். சில பெரியவர்களின் இளமைப் பருவ நிகழ்ச்சிகளை விரித்து எழுதினால் குழந்தைகள் படித்து இன்புறுவார்கள் என்ற எண்ணத்தோடு மகாத்மா காந்தியடிகள் முதலிய ஏழு பேர்களின் வரலாற்றி லிருந்து அவற்றைத் தொகுத்தேன். ஒவ்வொரு பெரியவரைப்பற்றியும் ஒவ்வொரு கட்டுரையாகக் 'கண்ண'னில் எழுதி வந்தேன். குழந்தைகளுக்குச் சுவையூட்டும் வகையில் தெளிவான சின்னஞ் சிறு வாக்கியங்களில் எழுதவேண்டும் என்பது என் விருப்பம். ஒருவாறு அந்த விருப்பத்தை நிறைவேற்ற முயன்றேன். அப்படி எழுதியவற்றின் தொகுப்பே இந்தப் புத்தகம். 'கண்ண'னில் வரும்போது குறிப்பிட்ட அளவுக்குள் அடங்கவேண்டி யிருந்தமையால், கிடைக்கும் செய்திகளை யெல்லாம் பயன்படுத்திக்கொண்டு விரிவாக எழுத முடியவில்லை. அப்படி எழுதினால் ஒவ்வொருவரையும் பற்றி ஒவ்வொரு புத்தகமே எழுதிவிடலாம்.

இந்தப் புத்தகத்தில் குழந்தைகள் படித்து மகிழ்வதற்கு உரிய பதினைந்து கதைகள் அடங்கியிருக்கின்றன. இந்தக் கதைகள் புலவர்களுடைய ஆற்றலும், அறிவுடைய பெண்களின் சாமார்த்தியமும், மெய் பேசுதல், தாயினிடம் அன்பு வைத்தல், விடா முயற்சி செய்தல், தர்மம் தலைகாத்தல் முதலிய நீதிகளைப் புலப்படுத்துகின்றன. தமிழ்ப் புலவர்களின் அறிவாற்றலை அறிந்து விளங்கும் வகையில் சில கதைகள் உள்ளன. இவை குழந்தைகள் படித்து இன்புறுவதற்கும், முதியோர் கல்வி கற்கும் போது அவர் படித்து மகிழ்வதற்கும் இவை பயன்படும். இந்தக் கதைகளில் சில பல காலமாகத் தமிழ் நாட்டில் வழங்கி வரும் வரலாறுகளை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டவை.
