100 Churches of Venice and the Lagoon is a photographic project started by Merizalde in 2014, alongside a broader body of work that began in the city in 2008. The color photographs in this book document religious temples from every "sestiere" of Venice, and the smaller towns of the Venetian lagoon. Starting in every neighborhood in the city, and navigating the Venetian lagoon-from Murano to Burano and Torcello, from Pellestrina to Chioggia, and deep into the northern lagoon to areas like Lio Piccolo, Mesole and beyond-he found and photographed their respective churches whether they remained in service or were deconsecrated or repurposed. Following their architectural similarities, the book presents a layout that favors the facade, relying on this subtle repetition for artistic sustenance and balance. A poignant essay by Marina Gasparini Lagrange provides an account tthat combines her personal experience as a former resident with a balanced historical perspective. 100 Churches of Venice and the Lagoon presents an in-depth view of Venetian culture and history through its place of worship in a book of exceptional appeal.

Disturbed Home is the first comprehensive survey of the artist's architectural interventions, including photographic and filmic interpretations of those structural works. Highlighting projects of the past twelve years and spanning geographies from Strange's native Australia, to New Zealand, Japan, Poland, and the United States, Strange's provocative transformations of damaged or abandoned homes unlock themes of social upheaval and geographic displacement caused by a variety of factors-economic blight, environmental disaster, and social migrations. Published on the occasion of exhibitions at the 2020 Perth Festival and the 2022 FotoFocus Biennial, Disturbed Home features lucid commentary and original imagery on numerous distinct projects. Also included are scholarly essays by FotoFocus artistic director and curator Kevin Moore and Britt Salvesen, curator and head of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department and the Prints and Drawings Department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Essays address Strange's practice within traditions of street art, photography, film, public sculpture, and dance performance.

In his latest book, Takay presents photographs that pay homage to the creative power and style of the great Japanese designer, Yohji Yamamoto. Fluence was shot primarily in Tokyo, Japan. In it, Takay has captured the magic and mystery of artistic forces and his native country. The images in Fluence are shot in black and white which punctuate the subject and the black designs and silhouettes of Yojhi Yamamotös clothing. The subjects in the book are some of Japan¿s most accomplished creatives, actors, musicians and models. The locations hark back to Japan of the 1980¿s, the end of the Showa era. Takay subconsciously chose locations that reflect this, the era he lived in prior to leaving Japan. These previously unseen photographs blend the Japanese landscape with the transformative power and energy of the people and the archive collection. The seed for this book was planted many years ago at the start of Takay¿s career when he worked with Terry Jones on a Yohji project, and came to fruition after he was offered the use of the Yohji Yamamoto archive collection which spans 40 years of design. In Takay¿s opinion, Yohji Yamamotös designs have a strong avant-garde, masculine style, mixed with a strong Japanese sensibility and elegance. When he began his project, he thought about what he could do with the clothes but while working with the people dressed in the collection, there was a transformation visually for him, which inspired him to create the images in this book.

Portraits of resilience and vulnerability, with QR-linked audio of comments and anecdotes from Stipe In this third, photo-based chapter of the Damiani series, Michael Stipe explores strength, courage and vulnerability, pausing the project abruptly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What follows is a lockdown interpretation of a 21st-century portrait, with a resolute desire to show our resilience, our humour, our collective fortitude and our adaptability. Through unique QR codes, the book is enriched by free audio content which deepens and enhances the discovery of the images. Scanning the QR code opens access to the "making-of" anecdotes and the intention behind the book, as told by Stipe. As an undergraduate studio art major at the University of Georgia, Michael Stipe (born 1960) studied photography and painting before leaving school upon the formation of R.E.M., the band for which he served as frontman and singer/songwriter until its dissolution in 2011. The sensibility that he began to develop during his time as an art student transferred to the spectrum of his work for R.E.M., from art directing all graphic, video and stage design, to writing, composing and performance, and his iconoclastic personal style. Stipe's visibility as a media figure in the popular culture of the 1980s and '90s left an indelible mark on the aesthetic trends of the time, many of which have trickled down to contemporary culture.

Over the course of a decade, photographer Bonnie Briant collected everything she saw, resulting in an extensive catalogue of photographs. Her first monograph, Lump Sum Lottery is quiet and subtle selection of images produced during those ten years. Self-reflexive and diaristic in nature, Lump Sum Lottery represents the many idiosyncratic, intimate moments that make up a life¿the in-between spaces, the moments you feel but can¿t necessarily put into words; time passing in a wild rush, with everything changing yet, somehow, staying exactly the same. The photographs become personal touchstones, a mode of organising, controlling (to an extent), and collecting the world. Each picture stands alone, infused with its own story, but quietly come together, like a steady stream, as a whole.

7 Deaths of Maria Callas is an opera project created by Marina Abramović premiering at the Bayerische Staatsopera in Munich 2020. In collaboration with an all star creative team and through a mix of narrative opera and film, Abramović re-creates seven iconic deaths from Callas¿ most important roles throughout her career, followed by an interpretive recreation of Callas¿ actual death played by Abramović on stage. This book serves as a companion to the live performance and provides a behind the scenes look into the different elements that make up this conceptual and dynamic homage to the classic and iconic singer.

Nor Dread Nor Hope Attend. Photographs from the Plains of Africa gathers 65 stunning black and white photographs of the icons of the Kenyan wilderness. This is David Gulden's second monograph and the culmination of seven years work. With his masterful eye, he has perfectly captured the elegance and beauty of lions, elephants, zebras and giraffes in their natural habitat. With a title from a poem by acclaimed Irish poet W.B. Yeats, Nor Dread Nor Hope Attend includes text by Dr. Richard Leakey, journalist Fiammetta Rocco, and American artist Alex Beard.

In Oscar Wilde‿s Italian Dream 1875-1900, leading Wilde author Renato Miracco has combined written research with visual iconographic material - from Wilde‿s earliest heady trips to Italy as an Oxford student to his final days in France and Italy in 1900 after his incarceration in Reading Gaol, and his voluntary exile from Great Britain. Italy, and the larger world outside of London, was essential to the sensitivity and awareness of Wilde‿s identity, to his contributions to the prison reform, to his challenges to the social norms and sexual stereotypes in his last years. Latin formed the basis of a proper English gentleman‿s education-and Italy presented a landscape which animated and exacerbated social and personal conflict for young men such as Wilde. It also offered a great deal of sexual liberty compared to the oppressive moral atmosphere of England at that time. The images Miracco has incorporated in this volume (including photos that Wilde received from the gay German photographer, Von Gloeden) are mainly unknown from private collections, and together with letters, reminiscences, magazine and newspaper articles (along with derogatory articles about Wilde written by the Italian press) play a key role in placing Wilde‿s character, and an entire generation, in a complex context - not only literary, but also visual. Reading about Naples, Rome, Palermo, Sicily, and Capri of that time, you see it as it must have appeared in the eyes of the writer. Oscar Wilde‿s Italian Dream 1875-1900 is a major addition to the canon of one of the world‿s greatest literary figures. The introduction to the book is by Philip Kennicott the Pulitzer Prize-winning art and architecture critic of The Washington Post.

Joan Myers was born in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1944. Her photographs have appeared in more than fifty solo and eighty group exhibitions throughout the United States, and they are included in the permanent collections of the Amon Carter Museum, Biblioth¿e Nationale de France, Center for Creative Photography, Denver Art Museum, George Eastman House International Museum of Photography, High Museum of Art, Minneapolis Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Museum of Modern Art, Nevada Museum of Art, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others. In 2002, the National Science Foundation awarded Myers a prestigious Antarctic Artists and Writer¿s Grant to photograph at McMurdo Station, surrounding field stations, historic huts, and the South Pole. That resulted in a major traveling exhibition and accompanying book, Wondrous Cold: An Antarctic Journey (Smithsonian Books, 2006), which won an Honorable Mention from the American Association of Museum¿s 2006 Publications Competition.

Artist, model, filmmaker, and gay sex symbol Peter Berlin, n¿Armin Hagen Freiherr von Hoyningen Huene (b. 1942), authored some of the most legendary erotic imagery of his day. What began as studies in self-portraiture and fashion design in the name of cruising by the early 1970s turned into a robust artistic practice that included the creation of two films ¿ Nights in Black Leather (1973) and That Boy (1974) ¿ and innumerable photographs, paintings, and illustrations.

Paris-based fashion photographer Goldberg first gained attention for his photography in the mid-1990s through contributions to Harper's Bazaar, GQ and Italian, French and Japanese Vogue, as well as later advertising work for clients including Paco Rabanne and Giorgio Armani.

Dennis Hopper (1936¿2010) was born in Dodge City, Kansas. He first appeared on television in 1954 and quickly became a cult actor, known for films such as Rebel Without a Cause (1955), Easy Rider (1969), The American Friend (1977), Apocalypse Now (1979), Blue Velvet (1986) and Hoosiers (1986). In 1988, he directed the critically acclaimed Colors. Hopper was also a prolific photographer and published now-classic portraits of celebrities such as Andy Warhol and Martin Luther King, Jr. His works are housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others.

A brief movement after death by Caleb Cain Marcus explores the release of energy from the body into the universe when we die. The images were taken along the coasts of New York and California and contain sky and ocean-immense bodies of space that we can lose ourselves in; becoming part of their vastness. The inspiration for the book came to the photographer from a personal experience. With the birth of his daughter, his death suddenly felt very near. His childhood questions about what happens when we die resurfaced and Marcus began to think about how to visually represent what occurs after death. The work represents the starting point of his new practice that juxtaposes digital and hand-applied mediums to create a hybrid surface, color and edge that challenges the medium of a photograph and the way in which it is seen, understood and felt. With the motion of a pendulum the grease pencil is swung by a string to make tightly grouped marks that reference the finite quantity of time in a lifespan and that move across the paper as if in a formation of light leaving the earth.

Caleb Cain Marcus, a photographic artist living in New York City, has a practice rooted in photography that is centered around color which he explores through material and surface, and the tangible presence of space as a connector with the universe. His work juxtaposes the inkjet medium with hand applied mediums to produce color that is immersive, sensory and poetic. Through this physical intervention of the photographic paper, each print becomes unique. His work is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Getty Museum, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the High Museum of Art and others.
