This story is about a young minister, Charles Fisher, who submits an unusual ad to the St. Louis Star in which he requests a "Christian maiden" to correspond with him. In the process, Caroline Scott, a young schoolteacher, sees the ad and, after a lot of soul-searching, decides to respond to it. Ultimately, they not only correspond but actually meet without knowing who the other is. Along the way, their struggles with the challenges of life are met with faith in the Lord, who is able to strengthen them in their uncertainties about the future.
