Interoperability between the respective S-Series Integrated Product Support (IPS) specifications requires a common understanding of the key concepts to be applied to all the specifications. Thus, SX002D, Common data model for the S-Series IPS specifications includes a conceptual description of all data elements common to more than one S-Series IPS specification, and documents this as a consolidated and harmonized data model using UML. This allows each individual specification to utilize or extend it as required. It describes all classes and attributes that are shared, as well as all relationships and interfaces that these specifications utilize. This data model is key to understand how all S-Series data models interface with each other, and also ensures that the different specifications interact properly with each other and are 100% compatible at data level. As the different XML schemas are generated from the specification data models, SX002D also ensures that the data constructs for data exchange are the same or at least fully interoperable between all the different specifications.Definitions for all classes and attributes defined in the SX002D Common Data Model are published as part of SX001G, Glossary for the S-Series IPS specifications, also available in book format with ISBN 978-84-19125-23-1.

The S-series of Integrated Product Support (IPS) specifications is a suite of international transatlantic specifications that address different aspects related to the provision of support by means of an integrated process. The main characteristic of these specifications that that they use interoperable processes and full interoperable data exchanges, which allow to share information across different domains and specifications. The S-Series of IPS specifications goes beyond the traditional Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and addresses not only the preparation for the service, but also the support during the in-service phase. Even more, it adds a feedback loop in order to perform in-service optimization of the traditional ILS.
