The idea behind this book is to make the reader aware of slang expressions used by typical Americans. Although some people might have attended institutions of higher education in their native countries, when they come to America, often they are baffled or confused by American slang, whether consciously or unconsciously. Most of my friends who went to college before coming to America also have problems because they don't let go of their understanding of the local American lingo.Even though I came from a country-Ghana-whose official language is English, (we were colonized by the British), I had a very hard time understanding the Americans' use of the informal English language. Statements like, "Are you nuts?" meant a whole different thing to me until after I had been here for a while and then I began to decipher what the subtle meanings of these slang expressions are when it comes to the American dialect.I began to compile these American expressions and put them together in book form so that people who are new to this country might appreciate and understand what they mean. It is my hope that this small book will help both Americans and new immigrants alike, basically by learning these expressions, using them when appropriate, and knowing when not to use expressions that may "rub people in America the wrong way."

Facing 350 years to life, it seems unreal and yet it was very real for me in 1996. My life was turned upside down and my hopes and dreams of playing in the NBA were shattered because of my poor choices; choices that ultimately sent me to prison for 15 years and changed my path in life. While I am still haunted by the fact that I am a two-striker and can easily fall back in to the system according to the 3-strike law, I am a changed man who sees life differently and whose mission now is to help youth not fall into the temptations that I faced.We all face trials and challenges in our lives. My story, while perhaps more dramatic than the average person, is a testament as to how one can not only survive difficult circumstances but can also come out stronger for having lived through them. My hope is to inspire and encourage readers to live their best life and to appreciate the freedoms that we all have in this country.

For our parents, it is a great joy to see their children start a new life in college. There is a lot of excitement for our students in the beginning as they enjoy independence. It is important for our students to follow good discipline pattern that helps develop self-control, efficacy, good character and willingness to accept the authority during the school years.

"Sleeping With the Dogs" is the last remaining morsel on my bucket list ....hopefully. It is a collection of memories and reflections harvested over 50 years of unfastidious traveling, chasing and photographing.
