This book is about seeking to find out more about the soul through the means of meditation. The introduction describes what is meant by the words 'soul', 'spirit' and 'spirituality' and how meditation has been used for millennia to find out more about these deeper facets of the human being. Astrology, particularly one branch of astrology called 'draconic astrology' is another tool that can be used to explore the soul. The author meditated on the draconic level of the planets and signs of the zodiac to find out more about the soul, its relationship to spirit and their interactions with the outer, physical level of life. The first chapter gives simple instructions on how to create a draconic horoscope from the tropical horoscope that is used more commonly in western astrology. Diagrams and examples are given. However, it is not necessary to know anything about astrology to use this book. The chapter on draconic astrology can easily be skipped over by readers who have no interest in that subject. The second chapter describes how the author prepared to meditate. Most of the meditations started with her entering a cave, symbolic of a quiet place within. As each meditation unfolded, it became clear which planet or sign of the zodiac was the focus of that meditation. At the end of each meditation, insights gained were noted and the subject of further contemplation. Pictures, either paintings or collages, were produced to capture the essence of each meditation. These are reproduced in this book. The third and fourth chapters detail the meditations of the planets and signs of the zodiac, respectively. These descriptions are followed by the picture produced after the meditation and an explanation of the picture. After that are a few key words and phrases that summarise that planet or sign at the draconic level. There is a 'Comment' that puts the draconic level of the planet or sign into the context of the more common interpretations associated with the tropical horoscope. The final chapter is a review. It describes observations that have emerged in the author's astrology practice as a result of insights gained in the meditations. There is enhanced understanding of how a person's soul is guiding them in their physical life. However, the meditations go much further. There are many instances when the meditations seem to elucidate deeper parts of the human being: the soul and its connection with spirit. In addition, the meditations suggest a profound connection to all life; a oneness with all that is in creation.
Defence of the garden realm is a book for children, which an adult can enjoy. It is a series of short, exciting poems depicting the initial adventure of a small group of insects (and a spider) who are facing the oncoming ant army (there is no fighting). After danger is averted they go their own way, but we then read an individual poem about the early days of each character. This develops our knowledge of each personality with all of their insecurities and obstacles to overcome. For example, the character "Little Scaredy Spider" is detached from all the other young spiders because she is vegetarian and eats only seeds and leaves, her webs are works of art and are not sticky to catch insects, but instead are silky and beautifully intricate. There is a Bee, who is the son of the Queen's sister. He is posh and clumsy and therefore is named "Bumble," but through an act of bravery, gets awarded the "order of the yellow knee" the highest honour possible. It is nice to think that after reading DOTGR that a child will see many bees with that particular medal (pollen sacks). "Sergeant Dung" is a dung beetle and the leader of "the crew," he sounds like an old soldier from London and is physically very strong, but he observes how the different strengths of others can overcome things that his brute strength cannot. "Catty-P" starts off as a caterpillar who would like to be in the air force, but is too young to fly, but she transforms and sees life from a whole new perspective (and doubles Bumble's air force). "Mumble" is a worm and slightly depressed. He sees all the things that the others can do and has low self-esteem as a result...but, through selfless acts, is elevated by the friendship of "the crew." Then each member of the crew of five have an individual adventure, followed by a few team efforts to deal with flood, building disruption, the vanity of a handsome "Red admirable" butterfly and a final summary by Mumble. Each adventure has their own original watercolour painted illustrations and the result is magic.

A contemporary tale of love and tragedy set against the backdrop of Argyll's dramatic forest scenery, much of the story takes place in and around Ardcairn Estate owned by an imperious American heiress Miss Lacelaw. Weaving like a constant thread throughout the story is an old Douglas Fir - the 'Family Tree' - that unites the characters in life, love, death and new life.Neil, the self-made son of a forest worker, is locked into a self-destructive relationship with Morag, a local lass. One wild night Neil's collie dog discovers Sophie - a pre-University student on an expedition - lying unconscious by the Douglas Fir. Neil saves her life but through the interference of Miss Lacelaw, they lose touch with one another.Later, when Neil finds a ring that Sophie lost at the Family Tree, he traces it back to Dorothy, Sophie's aristocratic grandmother. Dorothy helps Neil find Sophie, who is studying at St Andrews, but the two of them are fated not to meet properly. One evening they find themselves unexpectedly reunited at a ceilidh in Oban. During the reeling Sophie loses her ring again but Neil retrieves it and slips it onto her finger. Seeing Neil's unmistakable love for Sophie, Morag makes a dramatic exit in a drunken rage.Romance blossoms between Neil and Sophie and they spend an idyllic summer at a cottage on Ardcairn belonging to Ann, Neil's psychic godmother who is Miss Lacelaw's housekeeper. After some memorable adventures Neil and Sophie marry, with a ceremony held at The Family Tree.Pregnant by now, on the night that a massive storm hits Argyll, Sophie's waters break prematurely. Rushing back from Edinburgh to be by her side, Neil is tragically killed in a motorbike accident at the same time that Dorothy dies watching a rugby match. When Sophie regains consciousness she discovers that she has lost the two people she most loved in the world... and gained a daughter. The novel opens and closes with the arrival at Ardcairn of a married couple - David and Eleanor - who are buying the Estate from Miss Lacelaw. This sets the scene for the arrival of Ann, who realises that there is an uncanny connection between Eleanor and Sophie. Although Eleanor is in truth Sophie's daughter, Sophie had kept this fact secret all her life. It is now left to Ann to tell Eleanor the story of her connection to Sophie, Ardcairn and The Family Tree. Following a momentous evening of revelation and a night of passion the new owners of Ardcairn pay homage to that survivor of the great storm The Family Tree, that now belongs to them. Is this an act of closure, or perhaps a new beginning? Might Eleanor even now be pregnant, and will The Family Tree see a connection to a third generation?

Working in education has it's highs and lows, it's enjoyable moments and it's challenges and memories that will stay with me forever. This is a tell all of my experiences working as a Teaching Assistant in Primary Schools and Nurseries. Some stories are almost unbelievable. I would struggle to believe them myself if I hadn't been there in person. Some of today's children can be extremely difficult to work with especially when there is little or no support from staff and Head Teachers in schools.Over the time period of working as a TA I have been to countless schools and nurseries. I haven't had a story to tell about all of them, but those I have are the ones that have stayed with me, for reasons you will understand upon reading. Please don't judge me or think I'm being too harsh. I'm just saying it as it is and feel it's time someone spoke out.
A 140th birthday celebration offers an opportunity to reflect on the life and history of a church. This short history adds to a much earlier one. Its starting point is the founding of St Saviour's in the 1880's, an age of revival in which extensive building of churches took place, in an area of London rapidly increasing in population and housing developments.Through themes, it tells a story of how the many groups of people who, over the decades have formed the church, have met the challenges and opportunities offered by a continually changing east end society to pursue a key mission of demonstrating the transforming love of Jesus Christ. The story describes how the church has survived war, demolition, potential closure, a pandemic, to remain the strong church it is today. Descriptions of key events and activities underline how the church has sought to respond to, and interact with, its local community which has seen substantial social change in terms of increasing multiculturalism, changing family dynamics, developments in the role of women, increased social mobility, and multiple social issues.Sources used in telling the story are mainly the records of parish meetings, official church documents, and images old and new. But, most importantly, church members have offered their own accounts and memories, a source that would otherwise have gone undocumented.

This is an equal opportunities book - it doesn't matter whether you're male or female, you can still read it - but as the father of a young curious girl - when I was writing this book, I was thinking mostly of girls and young woman., because it's girls and young woman who have the greatest need of the information in these pages. We live today in a world of immense opportunity. There are probably more opportunities for more people today that there have ever been in the past. Whatever goal you have, you can get there. You can become the very best version of YOU it's possible to dream of. If you go about it the right way. And if you believe. Because that's what this book has to tell you. You can get anything you want, be anyone you want, and overcome any obstacle you want. But only if you believe you can. This book is here to tell you, and to reinforce those beliefs until they are absolutely and unshakably part of you.
So many forms of Tai Chi and different ways of doing them. Ultimately all ways come from one way; which at it's time of creation, was destined to become many ways through the evolution of physical and spiritual growth. My interpretation of Tai Chi comes from my own experiences and perspectives through life. We are all individuals; we are all built differently and we all think and feel differently. Tai Chi is an expression of who and what we are. To learn Tai Chi well we must have a good teacher, but we must also not forget that our Tai Chi primarily comes from within us; thus we are our own master.
