Pocket Dog is a smart, upmarket rom-com about Ollie Allyinphree, a hapless and perpetually single (if charmingly nerdy) research librarian in Boston. When Ollie comes into a sizeable fortune, he begins to receive marriage proposals from women all over the world. One relationship after another falls through until, with the help of a long-lost twin brother and a mysterious tiny rescue dog, Ollie learns how to overcome his passivity and take the risks that lead him to find and name what he truly wants.Pocket Dog explores themes of taking risks in relationships and decision-making, the limits of knowledge and logic, and the meaning of love.

What started out as an epilogue turned into a book of its own. The 13 stories you will read are compelling. They should be. Told by actual combat veterans of the Vietnam conflict, they reflect on so many battles that were fought; battles that were of the "kill, or be killed" type. The stories are, at times, raw. Other times they are humorous. Some end well, some do not. I learned that these men still carry many burdens that started when they got to Vietnam. I found that the end of their time in service never really ended. Many still suffer. Agent Orange was a culprit. P.T.S.D. was another. None were unscathed. I was able to interview two family members of a pilot who lost his life in Vietnam. From this, I learned of the long-lasting effects on family. Each I interviewed a POW from that conflict. I still find it hard to believe that this man came back alive. He's still alive and using his story for good. One thing for sure is that every one of these fine gentlemen are heroes of the highest order. I found them humble and unassuming about taking on this role. I hope this book will elevate them to their proper place, along with their countless comrades in arms.

Blimps/dirigibles! Sewers, rats, cheese, and a mutant alligator! A ¿ying van! A scorpion drone! Karate! A frikkin¿ Demolecularizer for crying out loud! Not to mention a robot dog versus a real dog! Whös got the better sniffer? Are you sure you¿re ready for this? Okay, but it¿s pretty awesome, so I hope that you are truly, once and for all ready for this. What is this? If you have to ask, maybe you¿re not really ready for this. You are really, really ready, you say? For this? Okay, okay. This is the first of many stories about Professor Wiztinkle and Ginormous Jay. Who are they? You keep asking questions like you¿re not ready for this. I¿ll tell you anyway. They are a super science technologist duo. They live in University City and work in the science and technology department of O! State University, which lies at the heart of University City. When they¿re not inventing amazing inventions of amazement, they¿re called upon to be superheroes, if you will, to save the city and sometimes the world. Professor Wiztinkle is a super genius and one half of the amazing duo, the other half being his super science partner Ginormous Jay, a hyper-intelligent gorilla in a leather jacket and a unitard. Together they must face the villain of the sewers, Fartina Stincovich, as she and her cohort-Billy "Buttface" McFarter and accompanying stenchmen-threaten to drop dirty diapers into the Old n¿ Grungy river, and more terrible still, into University City¿s water supply! So I ask you again: Are. You. Ready. For. This?

  • - Utilizing Everyday Unexpected Events to Improve Your Life and Career
    av Neil J Farber

By definition, serendipity implies accidental fortuity. But what if those events that seem to be random, spontaneous, and out of our control could be harnessed and used to improve our lives? What if coming across this book right now, wherever you are, is an act of serendipity? Dr. Neil Farber uses powerful examples of serendipity from history and his own life to show you the skills you need to prepare for, recognize, and ultimately take advantage of everyday unexpected occurrences. He teaches readers to: ¿ Practice mindfulness to illuminate the real possibility of serendipity¿ Hone observational skills to recognize serendipity even its subtlest forms¿ Bring a serendipitous event to a fortuitous conclusion (and recognize when that's not possible)There's a misconception that serendipity only brings fame and fortune to a few lucky individuals. And while monumental results are rare, unexpected events are happening to all of us with a great degree of frequency. Unless we cultivate these skills, the gentle nudges of potential serendipitous events, big and small, will pass us by completely. This is your moment of serendipity. Capture it.
