Who has ever seen a faded photograph from bygone days without wondering about the people pictured - whom they were, how they lived, what became of them? Which of us has toured a historic building and never once thought, if these walls could talk...? Emily Primm has. A thoroughly modern New York girl devoid of such childlike imagination, she sees herself as an adult trapped in a ten-year-old's body. She's never more anxious to slip the bonds of childhood than at Christmas, when all the grownups around her seem to become kids themselves. However, when she's given an unusual gift - a dollhouse that once belonged to a great-great grandmother, Emily's intrigued. She's inexplicably drawn to the heirloom, so much so that she finds herself whisked away to the house's real-life counterpart thirty miles - and more than a hundred years - from home. Emily spends Christmas Eve, 1905 with the real house's residents, the Forrests. She becomes fast friends with young Grace and her little brother Harry, a bookish boy who may hold the key to sending Emily back home. Their bonds strengthen when Emily learns that Grace is the dollhouse's original owner, and realizes that Harry and Grace are not only her friends, but her ancestors. As she shares in the Forrests' old-fashioned traditions, Emily begins to view the holidays, her own family, and her youth in a different light. She longs to go home (even though it means enduring the dreaded family dinner!), and by the time she finds her way back she's happy to return to the childhood she'd almost let slip away.

Henry The Hedgehog Is In A Hurry follows the journey of a young hedgehog who has a problem that is all too familiar to children in our society's current landscape: The energetic and ambitious Henry takes on too much in his day and has so much to do that he can't possibly juggle it all. Henry ultimately learns that when we don't take time to breathe and focus on one task at a time, we set ourselves up to fail instead of achieving more. The affable hedgehog creates a miles-long to-do list, adding more and more to his plate. As he attempts to complete multiple tasks at once, believing it will help him get through his many jobs, it only serves to create a hilarious pandemonium as all breaks loose and his master plan falls short. The rollicking and undulating text of the story mimics the speed and chaos with which Henry attempts to complete all of the many chores and assignments he has plotted out for his day. Families will delight in the exceptional read-aloud nature of this frenetic and silly story with a big lesson.

In Levels of Consciousness, Angelika weaves color-saturated threads of emotion into her sumptuous digital tapestries, which explore the themes of awareness, perception, mindfulness, wakefulness, alertness, cognizance, and realization.Angelika is a masterful visual storyteller who layers photographic images, colors, and shapes in a way that defies the 2D format they're presented in. Her limitless creativity revels in the organic intersection of humanity and nature in unexpected ways - inviting me to look at the world and myself in a new light.Levels of Consciousness contains some of Angelika's most evocative work yet, and I find myself coming back time and again for the depth of emotions that overtake me when I lose myself in them. Her art is visual poetry that both rips me open and soothes my spirit.- Ticia Isom, writer and storyteller

A beautiful debut collection of the simple moments in our lives. Poetry that will make you rethink the mundane and see it for what it is, a life unfolding. Just when you think the mundane of your life couldn't get any worse, you take a step back and realize that mundane is your life. The poetry in The Mundane helps us see that those little moments are the stepping stones to a beautiful life. The very strokes to a masterpiece. The experiences we forget about, or don't appreciate, are the tiny rituals we all wish eventually we could go back and live again. The day to day rhythms that are often overlooked, are the blocks that keep our foundation strong. If only there was a way to stop, and look closely at these slivers of time with a different perspective, we could all find a way to thrive in the mundane. These poems are Melissa looking back on her slivers.

With miles between them, the lives of both mother and daughter parallel when they find they are lost, searching for life's meaning, and far from their loved ones. Although the secrets they hide nearly destroy their family, both manage to find faith and hope to overcome the seemingly insurmountable odds they face. On the surface, Jeannie seems to have the perfect family, wealth, and all the luxuries of the "American Dream", but when her daughter runs away from home, the hidden truths of a struggling marriage, infidelity, and the realization of personal emptiness become too much for her to hide anymore. Leaving her husband and chasing her dreams by following her daughter from New York to California, she comes face to face with the realities of her fantasies that have tormented both herself and her loved ones. When her entire life comes crashing down after learning that her perfect soulmate is a hoax, she finally hears God calling her to discover the true meaning of her life and to come back home. As she realizes the mistakes of her past, and the deceitful beliefs she has held onto since childhood, she turns to God for the answers and forgiveness that elude her. Despite great difficulties, she begins to face the issues and lies responsible for years of unfulfillment. Holding onto faith and hope, the depth of her trouble does not hinder God's ability to restore everything she and her family have lost, while opening new doors for so much more. Broken lives and relationships mend through the unexpected changes provided by the only One who can save them.

Scarred lips resting on polished tusks...horned eyebrows over electric orange eyes... He was breathtaking. Oliver Turner has been given one last chance to regain his rightful position by his father's side, running the family corporation, but he can't keep his eyes off his klah'eel bodyguard. Oliver wants the man with an intensity that both scares and shocks him, and he's terrified of letting the desire pass him by after being so afraid for so long that he'd never desire a man again. But Oliver has spent his whole life chasing the love and approval of his father, and he can't let that slip through his fingers when he's so close. Captain Mal'ik can't believe that the yearning, longing scent pouring from the beautiful human man he's been assigned to protect is for him. Mal'ik has been a soldier for decades and bears the proof of it in his mangled face and metal arm. Surely the prissy, brilliant young man can't want him of all people. And yet, the way Oliver Turner looks at Mal'ik makes him feel like he could be so much more than just the scarred tool of an empire. As Oliver and Mal'ik wrestle with their surprising and unfamiliar feelings, the tense political situation surrounding them explodes into chaos. They will both be forced to make choices they never thought they'd make. Is it even possible for them to choose each other? The Alien Bodyguard is a steamy M/M romance with an HEA ending, set directly after the events of The Alien Emissary. Reading Emissary isn't required, but it is highly encouraged, as Bodyguard contains spoilers for Emissary and includes Emissary's main characters.

This is the eigth collection of short stories. As with the other seven, there is no theme, no shared genre, no fixed format. Most come from contest submittals. The nice thing about these contests is it gives the writer a chance to venture out of his/her comfort zone. Sometimes, you'll be asked to write all dialogue with no descriptions. Other times, it will be only dialogue without tag lines or beats (who said what, and what were they doing when they said it).The stories can be short (less than 300 words) or long (up to 5000 words). They can have any theme or prompt - a poem, song lyric, a picture, a comic book cover, anything. The goal is to develop as many writing skills as possible. You never know when you'll need a new approach.I hope you like these.
