As a Native woman, and these are my stories of my evolving relationship with the Southern California desert. These stories are written through my eyes, through my personal experiences, and are not the experiences of any other Native person or tribe. This book does not fit in any one category. Some might call it "nature awareness". My stories are 30 short reflections, about my relationship to the desert and its plant and animal inhabitants. They are illustrated with my original artwork, and my husband's original photographs. Some people may find these stories meditative; to others, the stories will speak to them spiritually. And for some, hopefully there are some good belly laughs. I hope these stories will speak to you, in whatever way they are meant to. I am delighted to share them. I wrote them as they happened, as I felt moved to by the desert. I hope you will find something in them, and that will make you smile. May you Walk in Beauty, Naomi

This book is not intended to be a medical manual or to replace your physician's care and advice. It should serve as a guide to aid in self-care and maintenance of lymphedema, skin and wound care. It is the culmination of over 40 years' experience in the field of cancer, lymphedema, skin and wound care. Self-care suggestions in this book are the direct result of patients' subjective comments, which prompted us to research better methods of treatment. Over the years these formulas have been used in treating our patients, and have not only become part of our clinic's protocol for therapy, but have proven to be a vital tool for education of patients in self care and maintenance. This constant exchange of information between patient and care-giver continues to be the basis for individualized patient care at our clinic.
