millennYELL: diatribes of self-discovery is a collection of poems intending to complicate the characterization of millennials as naively hopeful or as helplessly impotent. Bryan D. Wright's first book of poetry sweeps the personal, political, social, and cultural minefields left behind by the culture warriors of America's previous generations. His poems are a lament for the loss of the commonweal during the past thirty years of American life and culture -- while also being a rally cry to take action and seek meaning in the alienation pervading American society at the outset of the twenty-first century.Mr. Wright's poems in millennYELL are presented under four main themes of poetic expression - nihilism, longing, despair, and promise - each separated by a timeline of related events in American history from 1990 to 2020. His poetry grapples with key adversities for young adults: the tenuous grounds on which human meaning and action rest, the risks associated with desiring something over nothing, the anxiety that accompanies the pursuit of goals and values, and the latent (and dismal) prospects for success at the outset of every lifetime of endeavor. The poems - disquieting, exacting, and poignant - express key moments of personal anguish and insight that interrupted his prolonged inner dialog on the meaning of adulthood for the first generation to shape the next century and next millennium.

Christians often look for a place to serve. We know a lot about the major characters of the New Testament: Paul, Peter, James, John, etc., and of course the Lord Jesus Himself. Also sprinkled among the pages of the New Testament are names mentioned almost in passing, quick references to people whose duties and deeds are not given much attention, people like Onesimus, Tertius, Phoebe. With a little study and thought, we discover they were involved in vital areas of spiritual work. This series of 26 lessons shows us that the church family depends just as much on the likes of Archippus and Epaphras, names we often forget, as it does Paul and Peter. Whether you are a new Christian or mature in the faith, this book will help you appreciate the contributions that every Christian can and should make to the work of the church.

How can you look at the worst and see the best? How can you at the same time judge and forgive? How can you face weakness and find strength, possess humility and be self-assured?These are but a few of the obligations Christianity demands. And to every Christian there must come the means of understanding these paradoxes, of applying them in everyday life and thought. With acute insight, psychological knowledge, and deep religions discernment, this book explains some of the most difficult paradoxes of the Christian faith."The courage to proclaim saving paradoxes," says Bishop Kennedy, "is Christianity's saving strength." In twenty-one chapters he takes up the paradoxical truths of the gospel - humility and assurance, sin and grace, tension and peace, death and life, and others. To explain these essential paradoxes - the essence of the Christian message - is the purpose of this book. The Lion and the Lamb is a very real contribution to the understanding of the nature and meaning of the Christian faith - the book includes vital messages enforced by vivid illustrations, offering fresh approaches to the richest texts of Scripture, bringing a practical, inspiring Christian philosophy for our time.(This description taken for the 1950 edition book cover)

In an age of conformity brought on by huge cult-like corporations and ubiquitous social media is there still a road less traveled one might choose to follow? How better to confront the conformity of the 21st century than by consulting history's seven great freethinking philosophers? We live in a time of stereotypical ignorance: "Christians have narrow minds and oppose diversity," "Muslims value blind faith over reason," and "Women have never made any great contributions to philosophy." Seven Great Freethinking Philosophers crushes these, and many other, myths by detailing how seven great minds fought against conformity in their own ages and left us an inheritance of thought, now almost forgotten, fundamental to such things as human dignity, the scientific method, healthy living, and academic and religious freedom. Based upon "Half-Hours With The Free Thinkers," yet with brand new selections on Augustine, Averroes, and Edith Stein this new version of a classic is a must read for all current, or aspiring, freethinkers.

The stories in Mukoma's Marriage and Other Stories capture the lives of Zimbabwean men and the women they marry, and the lives of women and the men they fall in love with, each revealing the complexities of cultural and gender expectations against the backdrop of a changing country (war in the 1970s, political uncertainty in the 1980s and economic structural adjustment in the 1990s). Fati sets out to tell Mukoma's story, but ends up also telling his wives' stories. By telling his brother's story, and that of his women, he ends up telling his own story. Fati is a new and interesting protagonist in Zimbabwean literature with a voice at times innocent, yet increasingly incisive, humorous and engaging. These stories are deeply personal yet universal in their treatment of human relationships, ambitions, and misplaced cultural and gender expectations. Whether he is telling the story of his brother's first marriage, or remembers his brother's fights at a Parents Day event at Mhototi School, whether he recalls the night Mukoma took him to see a new baby in the alleyways of Glen View, Fati renders these stories with a measured, composed voice which doesn`t fail to delight with its unusual humour.

Journey With God is about how God shapes us to be whom we become as long as we submit to Him. He is our Potter that forms His clay for every good work. Thus, our journey starts with understanding our purpose and committing ourselves to be shaped, tried, and refined by the fire until we become the perfect vessel as Jesus is. This book covers seven chapters from knowing God, being physically fit, eating healthy, submitting our bodies to God, having God's wisdom, being willing to be tested in faith, and becoming a living stone for Christ. Topics are relevant today as it was more than two thousand years ago. Current events in this book are discussed with a biblical lens.
