Wars Apart is the cross-forces' World War II love story of Norman and Gwen Samson, as told in a cache of letters made public after 75 years hidden from view. Serving in the Middle East, both had distinguished service records, she with the South African Army, he with the British. Though also British, Gwen enlisted while working in Africa, quickly rising to become personal assistant to the two most senior members of the South African forces, Field Marshal and prime minister Jan Christiaan Smuts and General Francois Henry Theron; Norman was a senior figure in Britain's organisation of troops and transport.Though rarely able to be together, they gained permission to marry in Cairo. Towards war's end, a pregnant Gwen was repatriated to her father's home in Scotland. But when Norman was finally able to follow, the reunion was short-lived. Apparently suffering from post-traumatic stress, a suicide attempt saw him voluntarily committed to an asylum. Apart again. As the letters kept coming, however, each one was indicative of a deep and enduring love. In 1947, the now family of three emigrated to Wellington, New Zealand, where there were more twists to the story. The book is told mostly through the couple's many surviving letters, interspersed with meticulously researched historical context and human stories. It also includes a wide range of historical photos, most from the Samson family collection and not previously published.

The dead have no words for the living. Except for Evanne. Evanne is a half-Vhemin bard with a tune for trouble and a heart for heroism. Gifted an ancient suit of armour by a spectral warrior, she's convinced it's the key to restoring justice in a land teetering on the edge of chaos. The armour isn't just any relic. It's a whisper from before the world fell, calling her and her eclectic band across the blasted plaguelands. There awaits the mythical fairy sky city. Their mission? Fix the armour, and the balance shifts in their favour. The catch? It involves slaying a vampire older than history. The creature has outlasted empires and scoffed at time. There's a shadow over Evanne's heart. She fears the necromancer's path - a road paved with the souls of the unrestful dead. Her journey is haunted by fear of becoming what she most despises. Even her closest ally, the warrior fairy Tarragon, fears for Evanne's soul. No safe harbours. No grand armies. Just a guitar that speaks to both the living and the dead. If Evanne can't tune into the melody of courage and unravel the secrets of the sky city, the land might sing its final lament. The stakes? Higher than the sky city itself. If they fail, the fairy city remains a dream, and the land falls deeper into despair. Will Evanne strike the right chord, or will the land splinter into eternal dissonance?

Me. And Me Now is an extraordinary travel memoir about the early 1970s' "hippie trail" across Asia - a story not just of exotic places but an emerging era for the world's youth marked by unprecedented freedoms, escapism and experimentation.Author Alan Samson, a retired journalist and journalism lecturer from New Zealand, was in his early 20s when he began a two-year adventure along the trail, from Singapore to the jungles of Borneo, Bali to Burma, war-torn Cambodia to the majestic Himalayas, spiritual India to hippie-haven Afghanistan. His story captures the essence of the times, the places and the politics, as well as epitomising the "big adventure" for a young foreigner seeking to learn more about the world and, through that, himself. As Vietnam and other regional conflicts escalated into the 1970s, the whole region was on a knife's edge. And with fledgling television exponentially increasing its reach around the world, many of the conflicts began to be noticed in living rooms to an extent that could barely have been imagined even a few years earlier. Unsurprisingly, these years also saw a burgeoning of idealism among the world's youth, they too becoming the news as the cameras focused on enthusiastic anti-war demonstrations as far afield as America, Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Whether Americans dodging compulsory draft call-ups, or numerous others from all over the so-called West taking advantage of personal freedoms emerged out of the "swinging sixties", the result was a mass migration of young travellers. Wandering what became known as the "hippie trail", beginning from the southern hemisphere or the northern, but invariably landing in South and Southeast Asia, many styled themselves as "hippies" or "freaks". Even if they did not label themselves in that manner, their apparent loose lifestyles cemented the perception within astounded local populations.Caught up in the maelstrom, the author pursued the path of the many, tramping war zones, immersing himself in the region's religions, at the same time eating and smoking his way along the trail as far as Afghanistan before sickness had him abruptly homeward bound. For anyone wanting to understand the times and the context of a turbulent but exhilarating era, this articulate, one-man account of search and discovery, is a must read.

For nearly 100 years, from after the Civil War to the 1960s when two federal judges took charge, Arkansas prisons were torture chambers. Brutal prisoners doing time for murder and other extraordinarily violent crimes regularly held positions of authority. Their supervisors included convict trustees and sadistic prison authorities. They starved and beat men and women prisoners, sometimes to death, and often for amusement. Politicians and their cronies did nothing because corruption and graft benefited them. This book graphically describes the horror and those who endured it. It pulls together previously published firsthand accounts from two prisoners, an Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division Report, and two major legal opinions related to complaints of unconstitutionality in Arkansas prisons.

'Gutless, spineless, and cowardly, ' is how he describes the behavior of churches during Covid Hysteria. Unlike many Christians in the West, who, during the pandemic, sold out to money, a better job and reputation, Dr. Michael J. Sutton, nailed his colors to the mast, and has made a very public stand against fascism, both secular and religious. He argues that the Christian is not to comply with the state, submit to tyranny, or sign up to the loyalty tests, but to proclaim the identity, the words and actions of Jesus, and follow him, by challenging the narratives, resisting propaganda, and presenting a Christian perspective on the freedom that only God brings. In this book, he is on the record, in eleven candid, controversial, and Christ-centered conversations about the challenges of our times. They cover many of the topics we are not allowed to talk about: Covid Hysteria, Jesus, faith, Covid Theology, fascism, Ukraine, Russia, the Gaza conflict, government overreach, and indoctrination, including his controversial 2023 trip to Russia. This is the Rev. Dr. Michael J. Sutton, on the record, because freedom matters today, and we all matter to God

This book contains advice that I received from Uncle Tony, while I was in middle management at a large corporation. Although this book was initially started to help anyone who is a manager or wants to become a manager, I found that anyone can find ways to benefit from applying Uncle Tony's tips. His advice is plain and simple, and always told with a lot of humor. If nothing else, I think you will find the book a lot of fun to read. As for Uncle Tony, he isn't a CEO of a large corporation, nor is he a famous management guru. However, the lives of these hugely successful people are often so far removed from the struggles of ordinary folks like us, that much of their advice isn't what we need.
