The Church in the United States is broken. This does not mean that we should all stop meeting together. Both things can be true. In a society where many find themselves "deconstructing," people need an environment where they can contemplate how the current church operates and determine if there are healthy adjustments to be made. The current outlook on deconstruction from evangelical circles is that it is all evil. Though there are versions of deconstruction that lead people to lose their faith entirely, there are also versions of deconstruction where people who have been hurt or abused in the church never lose their faith in God, just their faith in the Church. This book provides an opportunity to explore reconstruction. What others Say About this Book:Brick by Brick is a book that is written at a critical moment in church history in the United States. "Where The Heart Is offers a nuanced view of one family's struggle to negotiate cold Britannia as they face dicey neighbourhoods, sketchy liaisons, and perennial ill-fate. Chatora's diaspora is not the glorified El Dorado; it is an honest place of grit and survival. A stellar contribution." - Tariro Ndoro, Author Agringada: Like a Gringa, Like a Foreigner For migrant Fari Mupawaenda, life cannot be complete without quitting the back breaking struggle for survival in the UK and returning to the laid-back streets of a warm Harare... but does it make sense for him to want to return to the periphery once more? The man who returns, why does he return? To what does he return? His wife, a zealous cosmopolitan, the daughter, a conflicted bed-hopping undergraduate, and the son, a budding homosexual, will not follow Fari in his trip to what they see as the back of beyond. They have decided to invest fully where they are.Fari's reverse trip is a story about the human body, a tight memory test and a duel between geography and anticipation... Masterful in style and form, the narratives in Andrew Chatora's Where the Heart Is are intensely provocative. -Memory Chirere- University of Zimbabwe
We all want to be blessed, but what does that mean? Jesus explained blessing in the introduction to the Sermon on the Mount, but His meaning of blessing is full of surprises! Somehow, these familiar Beatitudes have been memorized, recited, and then largely ignored. Join teacher and ministry leader Amy Blindt as she walks through each of the verses in Matthew 5:3-10 to help readers recognize the importance of each surprising blessing and then apply it. She defines each Beatitude, examines a biblical example, coaches readers through potential stumbling blocks, and then explores a historical or modern individual who exemplifies each Beatitude. Through specific challenges, readers will be inspired towards spiritual growth related to each unique promise.Endorsement:Like many concepts tossed around in Christian circles, the Beatitudes are often referenced but not always deeply understood. A centerpoint of Jesus' teaching and the launchpad for his larger Sermon on the Mount, they deserve more careful study and intentional application than often given. Utilizing Biblical study, keen insight, practical examples, and personal vulnerability, Amy Blindt leads the reader on a meaningful journey toward deeper understanding and embodiment of "the blessed life" as Jesus defines it. My own faith was enriched and challenged, and I recommend it to any who seek to faithfully follow Jesus.%Rev. Stacy Cochran Nowell, Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church HuntersvilleAbout the Author:As a wife, homeschool mom to four boys, and a women's ministry leader, Amy knows what a struggle it can be to find time to study the Bible. However, this has given her a passion for finding practical ways to apply the Word and encourage others to do the same. For years, she has been writing down these bite-sized lessons God has walked her through, always for His glory!
Mathematical Devotionals serves as a guide to connect Christianity with mathematics through a year's worth of inspirational prompts and meditations. Each devotional is self-contained, including scripture verses and an image. The devotionals fall into four categories: · Mathematical connections to Christianity· Semi-biographical devotionals of Christian mathematicians· Devotionals based on quotes either by a mathematician or about mathematics· A few devotionals using logical reasoning as a form of Christian apologetics The devotionals use mathematics, statistics, computer science, and even occasionally stray into the other science areas to provide a variety of engaging connections to Christianity. The book is intended to show how mathematics and other scientific fields should be considered complementary to Christianity rather than adversarial. Endorsement:¿Mathematicians, scientists, and folks intrigued by the wonders of the physical universe and the human spirit may be blessed by walking along with Professor Dale Hathaway throughout a year----especially if they have been charged from on high to integrate their faith with their teaching. Each pithy offering combines a mathematical insight, a life thought, and a graphical image into a holistic veritable balm of Gilead homily for each new day. ¿Andrew Simoson, Professor of Mathematics, King University Dr. Dale Hathaway inspires readers with this one-of-a-kind devotional book that makes a connection between God the Creator and Mathematics, which the Astronomer Galileo Galilei called "...the language in which God has written the universe." Readers will be blessed daily with scripture, quotes from famous mathematicians, relevant images, and a thoughtful devotion on each topic. Whether you are learning about a notable mathematician, a new mathematical concept, or how these concepts can help you better understand the mind of God, I pray you will be blessed by these Mathematical Devotionals. ¿Lieutenant Colonel Brian A. "Once an orphan, always an orphan!" became the mantra of her childhood. Orphan No More is a gripping first-hand account of a child who survives the horror of sexual abuse and abandonment in a society that turns a blind eye to the stark reality of molestation, child abuse, and sexual exploitation. Frightened and confused, she struggled to understand the death of her mommy and why her daddy did such horrible things to her. The state removed her from the only home she knew and tossed her from one foster home to another. What does the future hold for one abandoned little girl whose soul had been traumatized, tormented, repeatedly abused, and abandoned on so many levels?Endorsement:Orphan No More is a gut-wrenching, unembellished story of a woman who, through Christ, has found freedom and victory. Jen's vulnerability in sharing the details of her life, including the deeply private and painful points, will inspire readers to know that their story also matters, and their voice needs to be heard. I believe this book will inspire, encourage, and open eyes to the reality of both broken humanity and the love and power of Jesus. When we listen not, we are in disobedience. The author dutifully points out God's immutable style of rewarding compliance and the inescapable consequences of disobedience. The word of God in Isaiah 1:19-20 anchors her point. The anointing is so powerful, and it is evident that the author is gifted. We need more Spirit-filled books and authors like this woman to give us God's perspective and not man's.%Regina CLet me start by saying that this is one of the best Christian books that I have read in a long time. Chosen, a sequel to Loved, is a redemptive message to reveal the nature of Jesus and His love for you. The heart of Jesus is revealed through His joy and plan for you as you step into His world. Though redemption is often defined through the glory and sacrifice of the cross, the goal of this book is for us to truly see Jesus and His compassion for our journey as He answers the question, "Who is Chosen?" The enemy has tried to fill our hearts with lies convincing us that we are unworthy of redemption. We come face to face with the feeling of "not enough" and yet Jesus speaks the truth, that because of Him we are worthy. Stepping into your identity that you are, in fact, chosen is the answer to overcoming those lies. Each chapter will challenge readers to look within and overcome fear as they step onto the path that has been laid before them. Through an inner healing journey, the reader will not only experience victory in overcoming the temptations that Jesus faced, but will overcome with compassion for others. Redeemer embodies the true identity of Christ and His love and adoration for you. Chosen carries a depth of wisdom and will encourage the reader to not give up their fight. The reader will discover that each battle is won in the secret place. The message of this book is counter-cultural as it fills you with purpose and passion. Your journey as chosen has just begun.Endorsement:With a likeness to John Bunyan's, The Pilgrim's Progress, Chosen will take you on a metaphorical journey as you embark on an exhilarating pilgrimage side by side with the Redeemer. With creative writing that will capture your imagination, and enlighten your soul, Chosen invites your senses to come alive as you experience the constant presence of Love and Spirit, and glean wisdom from Peace, Lesson, Patience, and Kindness. Through mountaintops and valleys, each page will prick your heart with truth and grace, and will overwhelm you with the encompassing reality that Jesus indeed calls you Chosen! Chosen is an invitation to commune with your Redeemer and understand His love for you. Are you ready to embark on this journey with Him¿Emily Elizabeth Anderson, Thriving Forward Ministries.
