The Legend. The Immortal. My ... Soulmate?Yesterday, I was a wannabe journalist with two simple goals: expose the seedy underbelly of New Orleans' vampire scene, and maybe, just maybe, become hella famous. But fate had other plans. Now, thanks to an unfortunate back-alley encounter, I'm the newest member of the undead country club-fangs, coffin, and all. And who, might you ask, is the man responsible for saving my life? Freaking Dracula. Yes, the centuries-old, charismatic, and absurdly handsome Dracula. He's not just a vampire, he's the vampire-a legend wrapped in an enigma with a seductive smile and hypnotic eyes that are impossible to ignore. Especially when he claims I'm his soulmate. As if my life as a newbie vampire isn't challenging enough, I still have to track down the fanged fiend who tried to murder me in the first place. Romance was never part of my plans, but I'm finding it difficult to resist Dracula's charms. Turns out, he may be my Mr. Right after all. I just need to stay alive-well, undead-long enough to see if it's true love.

In my business, you meet all kinds of people; some, let's call them civilians, are ordinary, what the politicians call "folks;" then there are the characters, the peculiar sorts, people with strange peccadilloes: what an old friend of mine might call, "people who scare the horses." Some, let's call them "the desperate: " come to me because they find themselves in a situation, sometimes of their own making and other times... well... let's just say, imposed upon them. In each case, they have secrets: something they'd like to hide from the authorities and me, things like felonies, misdemeanours, mishaps, or misunderstandings. These cases are always about one of two things: money or women, but sometimes neither money nor women come in the form you'd expect, which brings me to the case of "Finding Lunia."It all started one day when Jacob Lerner, a young Aussie artist nicknamed Garbo, walked into my office carrying a painting. Not just any canvas, but a masterpiece he claimed he'd found in the trash in a Montmartre back alley. If the artwork was the original, it was one of five masterpieces stolen from the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris on a warm Spring night in 2010 by the renowned second-story burglar, L'Araignée, The Spider. The painting is a Modigliani portrait of Lunia Czechowska, one of five expressionist masterpieces stolen by L'Araignée and supposedly dumped in the trash by a nervous associate who was supposed to hold onto the canvases for safekeeping, not that anyone in their right mind believed someone would throw one hundred million dollars worth of art into the trash. Usually, I am hired to find some lost, stolen or misappropriated object, but in this case, the item found me, or so my Aussie client claimed. If you believe the story that played out in a Paris courtroom in 2017, then it would make sense to believe the story told to me by Jacob Lerner. All I had to do was prove the painting wasn't a forgery. The trouble is twenty percent of the canvases in the world's most prestigious museums are fakes, and Modigliani is one of the most frequently forged artists. Money and women: this case involves both, but not necessarily in the ways you'd expect.Axel Webb, Private Investigator

Beneath the icy depths of this next installment, you'll be plunged into a world where 38 female horror writers give you a glimpse of their inner-demons, unleashing the hell-fire they suppress in the 'real' world. It will disturb you to discover what really lurks inside their minds, because many of these stories delve into pain that can only be experienced by women-leaving you unhinged as you curl up with them during their darkest hour.Post-partum depression, hording, anorexia, and mental health will be brought to light when viewed through the shadowy perspective of cognitive deception.Sci-fi, romance, steam-punk, and fantasy intertwine with horror to deliver unsettling, chilling stories; traditional tales of witches, zombies, werewolves, and vampires will be told in twisted new ways that will shock, unnerve, and even repulse you...and within these pages, sometimes new monsters will arise from the ashes. You will discover that women not onlly write good horror...but in some cases, can do it better.

"At the age of 3, I discovered I was living in an orphanage, alongside 300 other young souls." My journey began in 1935, under the northern skies of Machias, Maine, but life had a different map in mind. Before I could even comprehend the vastness of the world, my family was uprooted to the sun-soaked lands of Florida. However, destiny took an unexpected turn at the tender age of three-I lost both my folks and found solace within the shared walls of an orphanage. Staying put was never my forte. At twelve, fueled by a longing to connect, I began hitching rides to Florida to visit my sister. Despite the warmth of family, she would inevitably send me packing back to the familiar embrace of the orphanage. Undeterred, the following year saw me setting my sights on Philly, in an attempt to bridge the gap with my brother. Alas, the script remained unchanged-back to the orphanage I went. Yet, 'no' was never the final chapter for me. Finally! At fifteen, I broke free from those institutional walls. Hitching rides with truckers became my passport to exploration, traversing the open roads and immersing myself in the diverse tales of those I met. Life, as you can imagine, has been an exhilarating rollercoaster. Those formative years etched indelible lessons into my spirit-how to depend on myself, make the most of the cards dealt, and persistently forge ahead. That, my friend, encapsulates the McCabe way-finding a path, no matter the hurdles that life throws our way.

Chicago Tribune It's 1859, and twenty-year-old Ike Bender, eager to escape the yoke of his brutal father, runs away from his family's hard-scrabble Nebraska farm with dreams of making his fortune in the gold-rush country around Pike's Peak, where his older brother Kit has already fled. Ike sets out alone, armed with only his home-made wheelbarrow, a side of bacon, an old pick-ax, a few dollars, and the love of plucky, head-strong teenager Millicent Slaughter to sustain his dangerous, 500-mile journey.
