From the PREFACE.THIS translation was made at the suggestion of my friend, Dr. W. R. Newbold, Professor of Greek Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania, in the hope of interesting here and there a student of thought or a lover of poetry. The introduction and notes are intended merely to illustrate the text: they touch only incidentally on the doxographical material and give thus by no means a complete account of all it is possible to know about Empedocles's philosophy. My indebtedness to the critics is frequently attested in the references, but I have in all points tried to exercise an independent judgment. Most citations from works not accessible in English are given in translation.

Le poesie di una giovane maestra nel passaggio dal piccolo paese contadino alla grande realtà urbana verso la metà del Novecento.

Annie is still a young woman when she comes to West Virginia. The time is the early 1970's when many young people were leaving the cities and seeking a rural lifestyle. Although her introduction to the state comes in the form of a music festival, she soon graduates to permanent status as a member of a local commune. In the years that follow she learns many lessons-some bitter, some sweet-about human interaction under such conditions. Interwoven throughout her odyssey is Clarisse, an enigmatic Rastafarian iconoclast who is part mentor and part object of her desire. Although Clarisse has a bad habit of going on walk-abouts and disappearing for months on end, he continues to influence Annie's thoughts from afar and is even there for her when she enters into a disastrous relationship with one bad-assed outlaw by the name of Jesse James. This is a story of opposites and one woman's attempt to find her way through the labyrinth that leads to adulthood and autonomy.

Yellow Cardigan is one of those books you can wind down with after a long day, you can sit back, wrap yourself in a blanket with a cup of tea or coffee. That is the energy I wanted to capture with this work. To evoke feelings that you can sit with and keep you warm. Writing and publishing this book, I really wanted to capture the idea of the comfort and beauty of love, but also how it can often have a tendency toward coldness - an irony, a duality. That love from the right person can bring happiness and warmth to the soul, but if it's not the right fit, one can feel distant and vulnerable and often alone.

Mga Tinuod ug Mga Bakak, or Truths and Lies, is a collection of short stories inspired by Ozamiz City, Philippines and the surrounding areas. The stories also draw heavily on the author's experiences as an American-Filipino trying to come to grips with leaving one life and entering another. Ranging from everyday life to legend, mythical to science-fiction, autobiographical to folklore, the collection is bound only by the islands of Mindanao and Negros where the stories grew. This collection may not be Filipino, but it is undeniably Ozamiznon. These stories are not true, but they are true to their home.

'The Inevitable High School Heartbreak' is a vulnerable, chronological and autobiographical poetry collection, following the journey of a teenage girl, on her path to finding first love. These poems span over a 4-year period, reflecting the perspectives of a teenager navigating a global pandemic, anxiety, love, and yes, heartbreak. Poetry became an outlet to channel her emotions, her joy, her pain and her own healing. With honesty and hope, we witness her evolution and growth, as she overcomes her first heartbreak, finding love for herself and the journey itself, in "There Will be Days Worth Living For".

Love, Pain, and Divinity is a collection of poems by Cole Allen Butler.Across this set of poems, a story is told. This is a story of confusion, of sense-making, of wrestling with God, and looking for deep connection. Chapter One, Love, walks through various poems that emerged dealing with complications around finding love and connection. The chapter ends with Cole having found that deep love and connection, finishing with a tribute to Cole's daughter. Chapter Two, Pain, is a series of struggles making sense in modern times. 'Pandemic' captures the pain of death during the COVID-19 pandemic, and 'Scared and Afraid' captures difficult emotions surrounding a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Chapter Three, Divinity, is a return to hope - hope for new life, for beauty in death, and reconnection to God.Death by PoetryOn and on the sand grains fallTime becomes the captor of allRenewed in life by promise of deathReturning to our sacred nestFilled with fear by a mere thoughtTo think that today I am, tomorrow notLife is short and thus so sweetRejoicing that two should meetEmbracing every moment providedCherishing the sanctity of timingIn life we found our secret treasuresEvery day a new adventure

Excavations from a Blue Room is a collection of three stories that were written over a twenty year period. True to archaeological form, the first is the most recent. Entitled The Twelve Days of Christmas, it is somewhat of anti-love song, and involves two tortured teens who have a serious communication break-down. The second story, Some Random Thoughts on Death and Dying needs no further introduction; the title says it all. The final offering, A Society of Strangers, is perhaps the sweetest of the lot. In it, a middle aged woman brakes for a good looking hitch-hiker and ends up on a wild romantic tangent that pushes her views on the nature of reality itself. Bundled together, the stories make a tight and unusual package. It was as if they were waiting for each other through the decades for the time when they could be joined together. All it took was digging up the bones and presenting them under the same roof. Let's just call it Exhibit A for short.

Emrys Fiercewind's father always told him he would become a werewolf on the first blood moon after his Sixteenth birthday. When Emrys was a chubby kid and insecure pre-teen, he loved the story of one day magically transforming into something else; but everyone said his dad was just a crazy liar. That was two years ago, and Emrys hasn't heard from or seen his dad since. Now it's 3023 and tomorrow is his Eighteenth birthday and graduation from the Intergalactic Academy on Mars. He should be looking forward to a summer of fun on the outer rim before his fall internship begins on the Earth Sanctuary, but Emrys isn't having any fun. His best friend in the universe just died from an "unexplained" infection in her blood from the bite of an "unknown" animal; and although he doesn't know it yet, Emrys's entire existence is about to go through an infinitely greater change than simply becoming a werewolf. Emrys is about to discover what his father meant when he told him: 'In his experience, life isn't divided up into genres; it's a horrifying, romantic, tragic, comical, science-fiction cowboy detective novel with gratuitous sex and violence. You know, the kind that will get banned if you're lucky. That's how you know it's worth it.'

Author, Russ Bray was born and raised in Montana, exposed to its history and natural surroundings. With the love and interest of what the state has to offer, he wrote numerous fiction stories, but Return of a Gunfighter is his first publication. As an artist, he combines illustrations of his own with the story. This novel takes place in Serenity Town. Although this is not a real town, there is such a place. The town was created by the author in his own back yard over a span of twenty plus years and home to the Montana Gunfighters Association Reenactors group. It is also a venue to weddings, reunions, and various parties. Russ also offers wagon and carriage rides from the town, where his horse (Chief) is kept. Often times, he is seen driving the horse and wagon into his hometown of Laurel where many get to see a novelty most other people seldom or ever see.

Michael's marriage is threatened by a growing infatuation with a girlfriend from schooldays who has contacted him unexpectedly. It had aways seemed self-evident to him that falling in love is something over which we have no control. And now, experiencing it himself, he probes more deeply into the subject, and is surprised to find that most neuroscientists now more or less agree that we are just biological machines operating in the tramlines of physical causes and effects. The minds, souls or spirits - the ghosts in the machine that are supposed tell our bodies what to do - are increasingly seeming like folk psychology. It follows that free will is an illusion, and consequently we are not responsible for anything we do. Michael writes an article suggesting that as we come to understand that without our souls we may be looking into a void, spiralling down to a terminal heart of darkness. His article attracts the attention an undercover government agency that is already drawing up plans to avoid the possibility of a meltdown in law and order when we get to know too much for our own good. He is recruited to work with the agency. But the government's involvement, well-intentioned and promising at first, veers off track and begins to take a sinister turn.
