A new approach to designing simple and powerful strategy by harnessing organizational talent and creativity.Strategy is important, but it's not easy to come up with fresh ideas needed for success, let alone bring them to life. Uncertainty about the future, the pressure of competition, risk aversion, and those boring planning meetings employees sit through sap confidence and enthusiasm and produce timid templates for maintaining status quo. This book offers a new approach to designing strategy. It shows how to inspire others to think differently long-term, work through challenging issues constructively, and ultimately become committed to an ambitious, shared future for your organization. Leading strategist Rosie Yeo reveals how to find answers to big questions by unleashing team creativity to hone in on what is most important and map a bold pathway to success. For leaders, aspiring leaders and anyone who needs a future plan, Go For Bold offers a fresh take on the creative collaboration needed to design, implement and achieve your organization's growth and other success metrics.
A study found that one-third of people in relationships listed their partner as the most annoying person they know! There is no way these relationships started this way. A comprehensive, coach-yourself guide for busy, burnt-out leaders to take back control of flexible working arrangements and find balance in an overworked world. Despite the promise of a post-pandemic ‘reset' that would make flexible work practices mainstream, it seems that overwork is here to stay. According to leading executive coach and psychologist, Dr Karen Morley, overwork is driven by ambitious, competitive and over-confident bosses who chase continuous growth and are prepared to sacrifice their own health and wellbeing, and that of their workforce, to achieve increasingly unrealistic targets. Remote work or not, this hasn't changed.High achieving, conscientious and agreeable leaders, the lifeblood of organizational success, get caught in the slipstream. In a world where overwork remains an expectation, flexible work has not been the solution we had all been hoping for. Rather, it has just blurred the boundaries between personal and professional life. It's time for leaders to take better control of where and when they work – a concept the author refers to as ‘flexAbility'. Flexibility is how the system operates, flexAbility is how to operate in this demanding system.FlexAbility is a comprehensive guide for leaders seeking to take back control and redefining their approach to work. It's about rediscovering why they do what they do and where work fits into their sense of purpose, so they can better align their work practices to suit their lives. In a world where more workers have burnout than don't, and feelings of anxiety are increasing, FlexAbility is a life-changing resource that every leader needs.

This is a laugh out loud, narrative-driven self-help book. Think Bridget Jones gets a critical makeover. In Why Smart Women Make Bad Decisions, our protagonist Kat is learning that the philosophy of 'Believe-in-yourself-and Magic-will-happen' will not deliver her a better life. Her story, which recounts her hapless attempts to navigate scenarios disturbingly familiar to many readers, is presented with a companion account of the cognitive quirks that drive her faulty thinking and behaviour. This is neuroscience explained through the lens of a modern comedy; the buggy brain stripped bare in a laugh out loud takedown of magical thinking and the goofy, delusional self-actualisation movement. Kat discovers that the simplistic advice to honour your intuition is not all it's cracked up to be. Despite practising Gratitude and Acceptance, she is still failing to lose the 2.35 kilos that preoccupy her. Despite her Positive Thinking, her performance review leaves her limp with despair, and despite her assiduous application to making affirmations, her philandering Hipster Boyfriend leaves her (taking with him the remote control). In the companion explanation to each chapter, author Annie McCubbin explains to readers what drives people to behave in blindly optimistic and self-destructive ways. If only they could apply the critical thinking that our narrator suggests, smart women would indeed stop making bad decisions. It becomes clear to Kat, and in turn the reader, that positive thinking, meditation and magical thinking will not turn her life around. Instead, women should apply the narrator's advice and change the inherent cognitive flaws that run, and often ruin, their lives.

The subject of organisational culture has become a particularly hot topic in Australia as a result of the recent Royal Commission into misconduct in the financial services industry. However, it is also a hot topic globally with regulators of financial services and other industries increasingly seeking to enforce culture measurement and management and to sanction leaders who do not properly do both - up to and including criminal prosecution. Practically every senior leader is now looking at how to measure and manage culture and is struggling to know how to address it. The somewhat tragic fact is that most of them don''t know what it is, let alone how to manage it. They consistently confuse culture with employee engagement (they are not the same thing!) and are running around trying to solve the wrong problem. We are seeing lots of frantic activity, most of which won''t achieve anything other than making it look like someone is doing something, but almost none of which will result in actual culture change. Meanwhile leaders at all levels in large and small organisations are stuck with dysfunctional teams and need a way to take action immediately that will actually make a difference. Improving the culture of their team will speed up their ability to implement and radically reduce the time they would otherwise spend on managing conflict and dysfunction. This book will show them how.
