  • - Discoveries Along the Journey Inward
    av Terry Oftedal
    189,-

If you enjoy inspirational short stories, you'll find it difficult to put this book down. It is part memoirs and part explorations into our potential for finding harmony within the daily adventures and challenges that comprise a lifetime. Some of the vignettes reveal insights born from dreams or from listening to the whispers of truth which speak to us in seemingly ordinary encounters. Are you ready to embark on the greatest journey of your life? Most likely you have already started, though you may not be fully aware of the implications. I'm talking about the journey to the innermost core of our souls, where we each encounter opportunities to discover who I am and why I have come to be. Along the way, learning moments present themselves more often and in more ways than we realize-- priceless gifts begging to be recognized and received. The stories in this book are rooted in such inner-facing life experiences. Collectively they provide a window into my journey inward, which I named Sunseed's Quest.

  • - Biography of a Vermont Hill Farmer
    av George Kempton
    243,-

“I loved that tractor like I would have loved a horse and rode it many long days. I traded it and $3,500 for a Case 730, also bought a hay tedder at auction for $982.”-George Kempton“We all went to church and then after dinner cut boys hair, and George and mine too, pleasant day at home.”-Pat KemptonRead this book for a rare, well-rounded picture of what it was like to establish a dairy farm and grow a large family in the beautiful, remote, economically poor Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, 1962-1985. George’s dry humor combined with Pat’s matter-of-fact, but deeply felt journal entries will draw you into their eventful lives, and before you know it you’ll be thoroughly immersed in the rhythm of the family and the seasons. George Kempton worked as a valued farm laborer in southern Vermont until he and his wife Patty, a nurse, were able to buy their own dairy farm in 1962 in Peacham, Vermont. There, they raised their five children and integrated into a diverse, rural community during the restive years of the 1960s and ‘70s. Sadly, Patty died in 2012, but she left behind an invaluable record of family life on the farm in the form of a daily journal. George continued to live on the farm until the day after this book went to press in April 2018, when he passed on while reading a detective novel from the library.

  • - Northern Reflections
    av Charlie Medlin
    195,-

Charlie Medlin was born in Minnesota in 1949, but grew up in Southern California. He returned to the Midwest and got a degree as an English Major from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. At St. Olaf, he met and eventually married his wife, Patricia.  After that, he became president of Nordic Interiors, selling furniture from Norway and Denmark.  While he was doing that, he became a volunteer for the Burnsville Fire Department in Burnsville, Minnesota.  After 3 years, he was given the opportunity to become a full-time fire fighter and he did that for the next 16 years.  Charlie really enjoyed the crew and all the great experiences he had. Not long after his retirement, it occurred to him that writing about the many experiences he had was a fine tribute to all of the fire fighters and paramedics he had worked with.  He knew that when he was “old enough,” he wanted to record his experiences for the next generation of fire fighters so they would understand what the job is like. Poetry was, and is, the best opportunity for them to understand the life and impact of being a fire fighter.

    av Sami G
    236,-

Sami spent years in denial of her alcoholism. She is cross addicted and accepted she was a pill popper long before she admitted to her disease of being an alcoholic. Thirty-three years of precious moments, family events, and relationships were stolen due to this insidious disease. She was sick mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually until the day God guided her to a program of recovery.Sami believes in destiny and it was God who brought her to Alcoholics Anonymous. In return she is convinced AA brought her to the personal relationship she has with God. While in the rooms she experienced her first, of many, spiritual experiences with God and it was astounding, and she knew it was fate. She, at last, reached the beginning of her journey to a happy, joyous, and free life. From the very beginning she knew the program only works if you work it, and that you must go to any length to remain sober. Most importantly she learned she is not alone, because through her discovery there are millions of others like her—admitted alcoholics, yet others who have not made it to the rooms. Journaling has been a life line to her soundness of mind. She believes her book will be instrumental to others who struggle thinking they are alone in this dark hell of alcoholism. A disease so cunning, baffling, and powerful that it convinces us we do not have a disease.

My name is Chloe Isabelle Morris. I am 9 years old. I have a Calico Siamese cat named Athena. I live with my cat, and my dad, Robert. The inspiration for this book was that my mommy died, on September 27, 2016. You might know her, Julia Kalontarova, an animation artist. She worked on the movie, Frozen, and developed ideas for Elsa’s cape and her ice palace. She also worked on the Wild Thornberries, which became my dad’s and my favorite show. She taught me lots of things, like drawing mostly. At the age of 2, I discovered art. In my book, I made drawings and wrote my feelings about her. The poem with the flower, I wrote at an early age. The book is mainly about my friendship with my mother, and I tried to put all of my feelings about my mom’s death in the art and the poetry. When I was creating it I was writing the poetry at different times. The picture on the front cover that I drew, was a present for my mother, because she had to leave my home for a long time. She drew a picture of me sleeping and placed it under my pillow. It made me cry. This is a book of poetry written by a seven year old girl about the passing of her mother in 2016.

In Turning Base, Betsy Lynch examines transience, love and grief, parenting, learning to let go and not learning to let go, teaching and learning, recovery, fear and aging, awareness of God, doubt, and powerlessness. Above all, she seeks connectedness; we are not the first to live tragedy, comedy, great divisions, madness, mortality. Humor and humility help. The theme, Wind Perceptions, presented itself as the single most compelling common denominator and metaphor of her adult life:“I seek awareness of weather conditions, spiritual, emotional, political, and physical, she says. I seek guidance, whether to go with the wind or against it, seek lift, or descent; I cross it, relish it, use it, shelter from it, or simply accept it, palms open upward: no matter what path I choose, I can’t change the wind.”Turning Base, now, descending before final approach, landing, the earth reaches up gently, and perhaps it is benevolent. Or perhaps, it simply is.“Listen to my story, come close. And listen to your own story in response. Maybe my story will become part of your story.”

Effective risk management involves many factors. Identifying, evaluating, mitigating risks, and then communicating this information to appropriate parties, are each well-known and highly recommended activities in the process. Risk management has always entailed a significant analytical component in many elements of the process, as it should. What I believe has not been sufficiently appreciated is that the quality of the decisions people make is the most powerful determinant of success or failure of a risk management process. Further, there is a growing body of research that has shown that decision making is flawed, and often times biased in many ways, leading to ineffective and many times damaging decisions for organizations of all kinds. "Better Behavior + Better Decisions = Less Risk" examines the critical, and heretofore largely unexplored, role of understanding the human behaviors and decision-making processes involved in the art and science of risk management, and provides many illuminating examples of how organizations can make more effective decisions about addressing the risks they face. Each chapter concludes with a "Self Appraisal" section, where the reader can assess how his or her organization makes risk management decisions of all types, and how their organizations can make more effective decisions that increase the likelihood of their success.

Lucy isn't alone! Statistics estimate that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. Surprisingly, 95% of the victims know their predators. I hope that you will use this story to teach your children to TELL SOMEONE if this happens to them! There are prompts provided for parents to engage their children in a conversation, to help avoid this from happening to them. Parents are encouraged to teach their children about their private body parts, and that they are to be covered (like when we wear a swimsuit to swim). Private parts are just that, private! Talk about what that means. Also, included at the back of the book are signs of sexual abuse, who to contact if this happens to your children, and websites to learn more about children and sexual abuse. This book may be used by School Counselors, Child Psychologists and hopefully, most of all, by PARENTS.

  • - Speaking the Truth Through a Black Woman's Eyes
    av Kimlin Charise Johnson
    241,-

AUTHENTICITY, ACCOUNTABILITY & AMBITIONS This extraordinary book is part history, part memoir, and part self-help It enlightens readers on the current examples of racism and ridicule that Black Americans are dealing with, years after the Civil Rights movement. Using historical events and examples from her own life, the author seeks to encourage readers toward the need for Authenticity, Accountability & Ambitions (AAA) among all Americans who want to start positive change and make America better. Ten percent of all proceeds from this book will go to the author's non-profit, The B-RELYT Organization, www.b-relyt.org. The vast majority of police officers are good at their jobs, but there is a small minority of police officers that do not like people that are different and act on those feelings with their guns. The author ran out of tears, from 2014 to 2016, as she watched Black people being murdered at the hands of racist and poorly trained police officers who received no consequences for their actions. It was during this time (2014-2016), that the author began writing AAA and speaking her truth. AAA answers the question: How can all human beings make America better? Authenticity, Accountability & Ambitions (AAA) touches on the need for change. AAA is a call to action, but more importantly, it discusses how Blacks treat each other and how to resolve this issue. AAA's Know Your History section (part one) features three interviews with Reverend Cecil L. "Chip" Murray (Rev. Murray). In this book, you will learn: Some of the untaught history of AmericaThe author's personal challenges and triumphs of life with her loving husband raising their two children. Black women are not "mad/angry" and how Black men can keep their swagger Reverend Murray had this to say about AAA: "Chapter 8: My Mistakes was and is superb. It will be a model for any truly discerning reader, for it teaches the value, the proper value of self-evaluation. At age eighty-eight, I learned so much from your analysis that I know you are going to have a hit on the market of book sales. Keep up the great work, for the best is yet to come!" #AAAthis

  • - Patterned After the Original Constitution for the United States
    av Douglas Robinson Buck
    283,-

Constitution for a Free People presents all the tools needed to create a charter for freedom for any government: city, county, state, nation, or colony on the Moon or Mars.It is based on the original Constitution for the United States, with worthy safeguards to secure liberty and curb an overreaching government. It assumes that men and women are born free and that most, when they arrive at the years of majority, are capable and able to solve common problems. It hails the U.S. Constitution as a charter of liberty and shows how the ideas behind its creation can be the basis for any government. Many statements from the Founders of the United States are given in support.Constitution for a Free People is for all who love liberty. It presents a plan for a government of the people, by the people and for the people... a plan for keeping decision making close to home... a plan for securing for all people their best hope for liberty, prosperity and happiness. Douglas Buck was born in a land of liberty and filled with industrious people, where neighbors helped one another with their problems or needs. Children played and walked or rode their bikes to school with little concern about being abused or taken hostage. Government was unobtrusive. Buck lived with his parents and grandparents. Everyone had chores. The family raised fruits, produced eggs and milk, and plowed walks and driveways. There was no need to register each business and follow a slew of regulations. People were careful and responsible. In his later years, Buck read The Making of America by W. Cleon Skousen, which reviews each clause of the U.S. Constitution, giving reasons for it inclusion. Knowledge of those reasons and Buck's belief that true principles are timeless and applicable everywhere inspired this book.
