In any agricultural country, various types of agricultural commodities are produced in large quantities and to handle such quantities during harvest, post-harvest, processing and transportation, various types of equipment are required. To design particular equipment or determining the behaviour of the product for its handling, physical properties such as size, shape, surface area, volume, density, porosity are very important. Various types of cleaning, grading and separation equipment are designed on the basis of physical properties of seeds such as size, shape, specific gravity etc. The book will provide a fundamental understanding of engineering properties of agricultural produce and the knowledge of engineering properties are combined with engineering knowledge. Each chapter in the book will be helpful for the students to understand the relationship between engineering properties of raw, semi-finished and processed food to obtain products with desired shelf-life and quality. This book discusses basic definitions, principles of engineering properties and their measurement methods with research findings. It will be helpful to the students for their self-study and to gain information how to analyze experimental data to generate practical information. It will also be helpful for students who deal with engineering properties in their research. Methods to measure these properties are also explained in details.

Nowadays, artificial seed technology is one of the most important tools to breeders and scientists of plant tissue culture. It has offered powerful advantages for large scale mass propagation of elite plant species and conservation of plants. The artificial seed technology is a rousing and fast growing area of research in plant tissue culture. The information in the areas of synthetic seed preparation technology, its implications, achievements and limitations are lying unorganized in different articles of journals and edited books. This information was presented in this monograph in organized way with up-to-date citations, which will provide comprehensive literatures of recent advances. To be an expert in artificial seeds, one should have enough practical hand in plant tissue culture. The main aim of artificial seeds is to obtain true-to-type plants; consequently the different methods of testing clonal.

The origin of agroforestry practices, i.e. growing trees and shrubs with food and fruit crops and grasses is traditional and very old; but the science of agroforestry is new. Years of experience and experiments have shown that agroforestry as a land-use system is capable of yielding both food and wood and at the same time helps in conserving and rehabilitating the ecosystems. It has the capability to increase the overall productivity of land, maintain the nutrient balance in the soil and above all protect the nature. In the recent years, agroforestry has been recommended as a core subject in the curriculum of B. Sc. (Forestry) and B. Sc. (Agriculture) courses of the state agricultural universities. The book has been divided into ten chapters covering very comprehensive information on all aspects of agroforestry including history, concepts, systems classification, tree-crop interactions, planning and management, diagnosis and design, policy and projects, and propagation and management practices of multipurpose trees. 2020, 192pages, figures, tables, index, 25cmDr. Alok Kumar Patra has about 25 years of experience in research and teaching at UG and PG level on agroforestry and agrometeorology. Presently he is working as Professor (Agronomy) in the All India Coordinated Research Project on Integrated Farming Systems, Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar- 751003, Odisha.
Nutrition remained largely an art until the scientists entered the field and chemists described feeds in terms of chemical entities. The physiologists, endocrinologists and bacteriologists joined the team and this paved the way for demonstrating that the feeds are heterogeneous combination of nutrients. It was shown that most single feed is unbalanced in terms of an animal's requirements. The field of nutrition has moved forward at an accelerated pace, year by year, as the new knowledge accumulated. In preparing this manuscript, the general framework and character of the book established by seniors, have been preserved. The text presents the principles of nutrition and their applications to feeding practice. It not only presents facts but shows how many of these have been obtained, illustrating experimental methods which will continue to develop new facts in the future. Like other rapidly advancing fields, new discoveries in the science of nutrition, which add to our knowledge, inevitably cause some modification in ideas previously held. The literature citations have been made on the basis of their usefulness to those students who are the principal users of the text. Such a compilation has resulted in an unbalanced representation of nutrition research on a worldwide basis.

This book deals with climate change impacts and interventions in Agriculture across various regions of the Country based on the research findings emanated from ICAR institutes and State Agricultural Universities as Global warming and climate change is a threat to food security. Impacts of weather extremes viz., droughts, floods, heat wave and cold waves pose immediate threat to Agriculture because of their frequent occurrence due to global warming and climate change rather than the climate change threat directly to crops. More than 60 authors are involved with 29 Chapters to focus on mitigation and adaptation strategies in Agriculture against ill effects of climate change. Research investigations indicate that crop yields are likely to decline with increase in atmospheric CO2 and temperature in ensuing decades and crop losses can be minimized through technologies generated in crop management, crop improvement and crop protection practices. Farmers concern to minimize crop losses against weather extremes rather than climate change as the impacts of climate change (increase in atmospheric CO2 and temperature) on crops at the field level is not clear if water is not a constraint. The publication includes vulnerability assessment, adaptation strategies, crop choices/combinations in different climate scenarios and preparedness to face the exigencies of climate change and emphasis is given on interventions. Of course, there is need to intensify research to generate technologies/location specific farm strategies which can withstand the impact of climate change as a long term strategy and farmers are the best to cope up with suitable strategies against global warming and climate change/climate variability to sustain rural livelihoods is very complex and complicated at the farm level.
