The arguments about who belongs will always be present when the conversation centers on Chicago high school basketball.My story is something I hope will be educational and inspirational to others who take the path I took as an inner-city resident who put in the extra effort in the classroom, on the court, and in the community to find success. I am a student of the human condition, wielding the written craft to enrapture the mind much like an artist wields a brush. The pages are a blank canvas on which to draw from a talent heralded by many but matched only by an imagination that rises to the task and delivers positivity.

This book tells us about those people and includes some of the history of the mining and railroad industry in the southern mountains of the Appalachian region.The historical aspects of this book of fiction are approximations about the development of the coal industry, the railroad industry, period news, and the Vietnam conflict.Lucy Blackburn and her dad are self-appointed guidance counselors and mentors for some of the characters of the bituminous coal mining area around Bluefield, Virginia, and Bluefield, West Virginia, because the state line runs through the town, splitting it between the town limits.Some of the settings in the story are real, and some of the towns, cities, and counties names have been changed for literary purposes. Starksburg is not a real town on the West Virginia and Virginia border. In total, anything about the town of Starksburg is fiction.

I wrote this cookbook mostly out of necessity, as I drive a semi and I needed a way to cook in the truck to save money and time. During the pandemic, when everything got locked down, the truck stops closed the restaurants, which left truck drivers to eat in fast-food places. Being a diabetic, I knew I couldn't eat in those places, so that led me to design a cookbook for truck drivers to follow simple recipes that could be cooked in a semi. The recipes take only thirty minutes and taste good. As I started this cookbook, I was able to control my diabetes a lot better and lower my A1C. With this cookbook, I'm hoping that other drivers like me can benefit from the recipes that I have designed.
