I am a divorced mother of two young men. They are thirty-two and thirty. Five years ago, I was scammed by a man that pretended he was in the army. They call it catfishing. At first, I didn't want anyone to know that I was swindled out of my hard-earned money. Then I thought about how many more people this has happened to; and I thought that if I wrote about what happened, maybe--just maybe--I could prevent someone else from giving their money away to someone who is trying to catfish them.I was a medical coder, CPC, and COC and left the hospital to do insurance in New Hampshire. Three years ago, I drove to Tennessee by myself to start over. I am now a key carrier manager on duty and a customer experience coordinator for a Marshalls branch. My primary goal is to get my message out to anyone that may be going through what I went through and have them keep their money.

Danny and the Corporate Ladder is a story. It is a story a friend tells as the narrator talks about their friend. It is the intersection of the relationships in a person's life. Each of the relationships in this book takes us on a site journey where Danny, our main character, spends his time helping others, from being the first person to sign a Little League friend's broken arm to searching for an ancient fossilized shark. Danny is a good person. In the book, we meet Danny's best friend when Danny is a kindergartner. What happens next is the story of a friendship. But it is also the story of falling in love. It is the story of the connection of multiple people and any intersections they have in your life. It is a story of those who influence us and those we control. There is a sidebar story of trying to teach and train snapping turtles to fly, but that is a sidebar. Most importantly, this is a story of a person who spends their life helping others. Through his example, I was able to confidently raise two boys without an inkling of self-doubt, stand in the company of any man, unintimidated, and to challenge myself to wrest as much good living out of this life, that personal principles would allow.I celebrate him and what he has meant to me. This book seeks to challenge you to remember the greatness of your father.
Engineer Victoria and her husband, Kevin, purchased the house of their dreams on the Caloosahatchee River in Southwest Florida in 2016. Although the house was over forty years old, the couple happily endured various home repair and improvement projects knowing that the stunning beauty of the home's location was well worth any aggravation. Their blissful state of mind was shattered less than a year after they purchased the property when Hurricane Irma paid an unwelcome visit. The hurricane's horrific damage to their beloved home was only the beginning of their agonies. The tense saga of dealing with a dysfunctional property insurance company was then superseded by the convoluted process for getting their house reconstructed to the current building code. The cliffhanger ending is followed by lessons learned that are beneficial to anyone living in a hurricane-prone area.
Meet Pat and Patty Flaugherty (pronounced "flair-tee"), teenage fraternal twins who have a penchant for getting themselves involved in mysteries. They don't plan to become professional detectives, but never being ones to dismiss a challenge, they attack these mysteries wholeheartedly until they resolve them. As a team, they each bring their unique strengths to the investigations: Patty's keen eye for observation of details and Pat's ability to "read" people. But with very different personalities, they are often at odds with each other during the process. Pat is headstrong and can be impulsive; Patty is levelheaded and practical although sometimes too critical of her brother. Pat and Patty Flaugherty are drawn into their second mystery by an old friend who is now in college. When he appears on their doorstep with a "little problem" that he is reluctant to divulge, the twins are quickly caught up in an investigation of a scheme to launder counterfeit money throughout their home state. The mystery moves to the university campus where Pat and Patty search for missing school supplies and end up finding a campus secret that helps their friend and also leads them to solve a 35-year-old murder case in the Mystery on Campus.

I was nineteen when I prayed for guidance in the library. I found myself walking to the philosophy stacks where I saw a faded green clothbound tome published in 1901, Cosmic Consciousness by R. M. Bucke. I thank heaven every day for that invaluable work of faith.

During the 1950s, the great migration from the South led many Black families to the city of Chicago. As African American families took up residency all around the city, the talent in the Chicago Public League's high schools took a huge leap. Many of the schools that were previously predominantly White became Black. Neighborhoods throughout the city changed as well. Many White families moved to suburban areas outside of Chicago.Since that time, basketball has created thousands of scholarship opportunities for Black student athletes, including myself. My version of the Top 100 Players of All Time will not only be similar to many but also different from what other writers would put together. The arguments about who belongs will always be present when the conversation centers on Chicago high school basketball. My story is something I hope will be educational and inspirational to others who take the path I took as an inner-city resident who put in the extra effort in the classroom, on the court, and in the community to find success. I am a student of the human condition, wielding the written craft to enrapture the mind much like an artist wields a brush. The pages are a blank canvas on which to draw from a talent heralded by many but matched only by an imagination that rises to the task and delivers positivity.

The purpose of this book is to let the people--mostly the young people of today, who think they're living in hard times and that everything around them is so brutal and savage and of so much despair, though many think that way because of to the constant negative ambush they receive today from the media, schools, newspapers, and through many elites in our society who are taught that everything around them is going to hell in a handbasket--know that this is the best time in the world to be alive. Most people are safer, better educated, and living around modern high-tech advances that make their lives easier. People have more wealth and leisure time than ever before. They are healthier and tend to live longer than ever before. The world is also more acceptable among the races and religions of the world, and this generation has the chance to live in everlasting peace without no World Wars, though there will always be conflicts among people and nations, and it will never be perfect. This generation today must know that the world was a pretty savage doggy world throughout history, climaxed by World War II though savage wars did continue after World War II. They must also be taught that the perpetrators of the savagery were all people, races, and religions, not just some. For today's media want to use that narrative, and the victims of the savagery were also from all people, races, and religions. We all know that slavery is wrong in America, but it ended over 160 years ago. Why not also talk about slavery before American slavery, like the slavery in Africa? And why not talk right now about slavery that's been going on right now in China, in North Africa by Isis, and in Libya? Because it doesn't get the media's narrative on who is good and who is bad. And one more thing about the media, how about talking about some of the good things that America has done throughout its history instead of bashing America all the time? For example, if America were to be wiped out by a tidal wave, the rest of the world would be in warfare because there will be no America to secure peace.
Jenna wanted to make a change in life after the passing of her mother, brother, and grandmother, a life change that would take her four hours away from the town she grew up in, away from her best friend, and away from all her family's memories. It was a chance to start over, where no one knew her story, where she could start a new life in her grandmother's farmhouse, along with money that will last her more than a lifetime, not that money meant anything to her. She'd give it all back to have her family with her. That, however, wasn't life's plan. When Jenna was involved in a hit-and-run accident, she found herself in the hospital. There she met Maria, who reminded her that love didn't always come from blood; Jacob, who showed her that he would protect her no matter what; and Aaron, who showed her it was okay to take a chance on love. It took someone else though to teach her to make the tough choices, to listen to her heart no matter where it took her which, in the end, made her question who truly and completely had her heart.Jenna brought a special light to this new town. Her big heart was felt by so many. However, with the good came the bad. Someone was set out to hurt Jenna. Catching him before it happened brought Jenna closer to the people she started to love, the people she soon considered her family.
I, William A. Hagwood, a veteran of US army, from December 5, 1976, to December 7, 1982, two days AWOL, wrote these truths because I am compelled to do so. I am not a war veteran, but this is my war that I have been in a fight with for over thirty years in dreams and nightmares. At a substance abuse group class at the VA hospital in Tampa, Florida, conducted by a counselor named David Smith, I told this story: The Devil Had a Son: The 13th Step.I was told to stop telling the story. This is beyond belief and too gross for the class to hear or receive by David Smith. And his analysis of me and the way that I thought was irrational and that I was out of my mind.I took a number of tests at the VA hospital to see where my mental stability and if I was stable in my thinking and mind. It was said that there was nothing wrong with my mental stability and to stay in school.Today and tomorrow along with yesterday, school is in session because I ended up knowing what I was fighting against physically but not spiritually. So for myself to be set free with an excellent spirit, I tell this truth for myself. The Bible's heroes are made to walk across the stage of life again to further lessons and in a spiritual example for all believers and for myself to know that I've learned my lesson well.I Know that it's hard to believe things that aren't seen because of the lack of belief in things not seen in the natural. But remember this life lesson that I leave you with, the four-score judgment that I live for today and the abandonment from God, which causes the abandonment from every good thing in life mentally and physically and with our loved ones also. Imprisonment can also open your eyes to save yourself. Then at the end, there is death. Then the four-score judgment belongs to the beast.
Behind a Smile is my story of survival. It is the candid and graphic account of my life; its past, scarred by abuse and neglect, bad choices and near disasters; and its present, with the heartbreaking pain of loss and grief and the devastating resurrection of an old evil.As a small child, I always felt the presence of God in my life, protecting and guiding me in the midst of my darkness, my valley of the shadow. I was born into a legacy of fear passed down through generations of abuse to my father, who succumbed to that fear, which grew into cruelty.Even as a child, I had hope--the hope for eternity--and a closeness to God that was simply a fact. I always just knew He was present in my life, and I carried that hope with me as I grew.He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)Ever present in my life, always saving me from the worst.Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you or forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)My story, who I was, and who I am becoming, who God is creating me to be, is meant to shed light on how He strengthens us in the midst of our tragedies so that we can grow and feel His love for us.See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. (Isaiah 48:10)Behind every smile is a story.
If a majority of people were to be asked what a narcissist is, most would not describe it correctly. There are many different types of narcissism and many different degrees of this disorder.Covert narcissism, or a co narc, is a type of narcissism that, as the name implies, is hidden or not seen. And because of its stealthy traits, it can be very dangerous and damaging to those who interact or become romantically involved with a person suffering with this disease. It is a condition, unfortunately, that is misunderstood many times or not realized until it is too late; and the number of people suffering from this are on the rise. Many of the victims or receivers of the abuse do not even know they are being abused, nor have any idea how to deal or protect themselves from this condition. The feelings of uncertainty and confusion often will result in a victim or receiver of this abuse not only undergoing much pain and suffering but the victim will also often become a person they do not want to be.In this book, I will identify the different stages of covert narcissism, what each stage means, and why a discard is not only part of the plan from the beginning of the relationship but is inevitable. I will name and explain different characteristics and actions of the co narc and when the co narc will apply these. No matter what the victim did or said, dealing with a co narc was a near impossible task and in no way was the discard the fault of the victim. The victim is not alone nor uncommon. There are many who have suffered from the hands of the co narc. These victims now understand the pain and suffering and now speak and understand a unique language. Now, the victim can heal and most importantly identify avoiding further misery.
Inconceivable, not pronounced with a lithp "in-con-theeve-able" as in The Princess Bride (nor does it have to do with the immaculate conception), but a story of a man who dared to dream an impossible dream and experience a power beyond his own to see that dream fulfilled. A poignant story of one man's determination, struggles, and triumphs in following God's vision and purpose for his life. It's one of courage in uprooting his family and moving to the Land Down Under. There was a guarantee of financial support and commitment for two years. At the end of the second year, the vision was beginning to flourish with astonishing growth, at which time David and his wife, Marianna, said, "We can't leave now. The baby will die." They agreed to stay just one more year.Follow the unfolding journey and discover why it took him not just one more year but almost thirty years to leave. David taught generations of students about the richness of the Scriptures, the building of Christian character, stick-to-it-iv-ness, and achieving excellence in life by demanding nothing less than the best from his students. Christian artists need to try harder, be the best they can be, never accept mediocrity or being average, but always work to advance and aspire to excellence. If what we do is to bring delight to the heart of God, who is most excellent, then what we offer Him must also be excellent. Wesley Institute only exists because God gifted David, captivated his heart, and gave him a vision so big it would take the rest of his life to fulfill.

In the preface Doctor John tells us, "The subject of this book is the Goth-industrial scene centered primarily around New York City from its heyday in 1990 to its COVID-driven pause in 2020...It takes in what the author deems to be the broad historical and cultural milieu that nourished a specific social and aesthetic group of people: the Goths of Greater NYC and the institutions that served them-their roots, their common interests, their shared experience, and their uniqueness as a subculture."
