"You should be writing all of this down," she said. ''She'' being a close friend of the author, Jim Tincher, who would often tell her all about his wife and his two daughters. Almost all of the stories focused on the many and various health problems the couple had endured. The author worried he sounded like a complainer. He really isn''t it is just that illness had become a major part of the couple''s life in recent years. One day the author heeded his friend''s advice and started writing. This book is the result. As Jim Tincher writes, ''The means to this end was very non-traditional, from what I understand. There were no outlines, no preparation, no nothing. I just started writing, not knowing when I would stop. Many, many people are dealing with situations like these. Maybe hearing someone else''s trials and tribulations will bring you some sort of peace. It''s not a solution to your problem but it may be comforting knowing you are not alone.''

This book is a compendium of drastic changes that occurred in the fortunes of nations in the last 500 years. Seventeenth century China and India held one half of the world''s wealth. Europe was crazy for Chinese silks, porcelain, tea and India''s artifacts, muslins, printed calicos and spices. Portugal''s lucrative trade with the East enticed other maritime Europeans. It was the trading companies which laid foundations of colonialism. Britain exploited India until it was rendered a basket case. Europeans and the United States ganged up against China which blocked their clandestine opium trade and profited from post-war reparations. Spanish conquistadors smashed exquisite Aztec and Inca kingdoms to establish Spanish rule. Spain enriched from South America''s gold and silver, began eyeing North America. An alarmed Britain established colonies on the east coast. These colonies prospered but Britain lost them due to her fiscal and patronizing policies. Unfortunately for her natives, Britain selected Australia to exile her convicts. African slaves were introduced to fully exploit the colonies. Colonials deployed draconian laws to suppress dissent to their despotic rule. Their inhuman treatment of natives of the colonies reveals a darker side of European civilization.

No figure in history has achieved such universal fame for the power and accuracy of his dreams as Joseph. Sold into slavery by his brothers, exiled to a foreign land, falsely accused of abuse of his position and thrown into prison, it would have been easy for him to have given up on God and the dreams he had received. Drawing on personal experiences of exile, Oregbe Osayimwen sheds searching new light on the famous Old Testament story of the dreamer and how we can be inspired to pursue our dreams. How Joseph persisted in the face of adversity, refused to be derailed in the midst of temptation and discouragement, was used to save two countries from the ravages of famine and miraculously reunited with his family after years of separation offers a powerful object lesson that is just as relevant today as then.

Flint and Kiffy by Phito Panayiotou begins with a conversation between Adrienne Kiff and her ex-boyfriend Jonas, about how Adrienne had met her partner, Flint. The story goes on to describe the early part of the relationship between Kiffy, a French and Spanish teacher at Westminster School and Flint, a lawyer. They are an unlikely couple, if for no other reason than the age difference and the fact that they seemingly have nothing in common, other than the early morning training commute to work. However, things seem to be progressing along nicely. The reader is told about the very early stages of Flint and Kiffy''s relationship and is left to decide whether it will blossom into something so much more. Is it a one-sided relationship or are both Flint and Kiffy as invested as each other?Flint and Kiffy is a love story which includes all sorts of emotions from humour, to love, to sarcasm, to heartbreak, to eroticism and beyond.

Medicine for the soul is the best way to describe the collection of poems in The Lotus Dance. These brilliantly constructed poems weave a remarkable portrait of the joy and suffering we experience in the delicate dance of relationships, our effort to find our life''s purpose by looking to spirituality and the stressors social challenges cause us. Alex Andrews cleverly weaves African American, Native American, European and East Asian perspectives on finding love, embracing compassion and fighting injustice.
