The Harbingers of Spring is fiction and is a tale of hope set in the surroundings of the author's grandfather's farm in Brown County, Indiana, of memories from the first decades of his life, born of childhood loneliness, amid things he would do if he had the choice to get people to come and visit. This book follows decades of the development of a festival in the Sweetwater Creek valley. It is a presentation of equality and diversity that follows a girl and boy in their pursuit of forbidden love. It presents a global input into a microcosm while the harbingers of spring, from the constellations to the flowers to the wildlife, to annual happenings, mark the growth and education of the two main characters. This education is punctuated by the genetic development of a grand champion bull and a bloodline of prized cattle and the production of mules. A world court is depicted that hears cases of the lovelorn, annually, and gives opinions up to and including the provision of weddings. The book depicts the conversations of all introduced characters from wherever to the constants of the rural setting: the rules of bathing on the porch in a washtub and spitting on one's finger to entice the butterflies and making a bed of two pairs of pants for lovemaking. The story expands out of harsh fundamentalism, the ugliness of the gangs of Great Britain, the old assertion that behind every great fortune lies a crime (Balzac 1834), the drug cartels, and the systematic destruction in the prisoner of war camps. Love does triumph. The driving force of the girl protagonist is the belief that if you have been denied of your own dreams, you should do whatever you can to help others not be denied their dreams. The Harbingers of Spring is a retelling of stories made up by the author to maintain interest by his wife in fighting leukemia, born of desperation--an effort to entice her to want to hang on, just to hear one more story, and a plea for her to continue to live.
After Beth Stewart's parents got divorce, she lived with her father during the summers on a ranch in the high-mountain plains of Northern Arizona. This was where she met and fell in love with Monty Jarrett. They both enrolled in the same university and were happy until her mother encouraged her to date other boys. Devastated, Monty felt like he could no longer be near her. With the war in Vietnam still raging, the young cowboy joined the army rather than to wait to be drafted.Matt Stryker, Beth's illegitimate half brother, took over his mother's real estate business in Phoenix, Arizona. On a trip to visit family, Matt met Laura Patterson, a chef from San Francisco. He proposed to her a few months later, and Laura accepted. But she was unaware that Matt still struggled with the love he had lost.Raised by her grandparents in Germany, Marthe Lange never knew the mother that gave birth to her or the father that abandoned her. After the death of her grandmother, Marthe journeyed to San Diego, California, as an exchange student. Knowing that her father lived close by, she wrote to him. And a few days later, Monty Jarrett came to meet the daughter he had never known. This is the story of five people, their lives woven together over time. Decisions were made, loved ones lost, and new ones found. Eventually, the paths of these people will emerge, fate inevitably drawing them together across the bands of time, tearing at the fabric of their emotions.
Margarita tells us, "The sweetest hours of my life have been the ones I spent taking care of my three children: Noel, Luis, and Maria. My greatest pleasure was always having them clean and happy, and their greatest joy for them was to listen to my stories every night, so every day my imagination had to create a new story to please him."This book collects some of the stories that the author was able to write down at night--after her children fell asleep--with the intention that these children's stories could be read to other children at bedtime.

There are many books covering the rules of golf but very little written on how to be a golf referee (rules official). Most people do not realize that almost all golf referees are volunteers. Sure many of them get lunch or breakfast covered while at a tournament. But very few actually get paid. The comradery and passion for the game of golf are what inspires most golf enthusiasts to begin an exploration of the rules. From there, many want to help with golf tournaments. There is very little guidance other than word of mouth on how to become involved or what golf referees do. Some seem to think that golf referees hang out in the woods and race out in a golf cart to tell a player they incurred a penalty. But on the contrary, we try to help players avoid penalties and be there for them when they have questions to insure they play according to the rules. We also help set up the course (set the tees, mark the course, and choose hole locations) and set up the tournament (notice to players, local rules, starting times, and many other administrative duties). We hope this book provides a different side of golf that might inspire you to become a golf referee.
A little chicken wants to do whatever is necessary to fit in, when all he really needs to do is be himself in order to be happy.
Learning to go potty is a huge milestone in a child's life. When I Get That Feeling Near My Booty works to help children understand that going potty is entirely normal--we all do it! Just Saying is a gathering of short stories, thoughts, and subjects presented in a random format. There is no sequence or timeline to follow. You can start anywhere and even stop in the middle if that's your preference. Or read from beginning to end. That would be my preference, of course. Each piece is meant to stand on its own just like the characters and experiences that inspired this collection.I hope you find something on each page or in each story that will bring you a smile or a tear, an aha moment, or even an "I knew that" confirmation, reassurance, or the simple knowledge that we aren't alone in life's journey.I hope my words do justice to those people and experiences that have shaped and blessed my life.Just saying.

Thanks to Santa's helpers, Jinglebella and her brother, Beau, all of the animals from the Portage Animal Protective League's shelter have been placed in wonderful forever homes. The animals have been so happy and have made their forever families very happy as well. Missing their friends from the shelter, though, the animals learn how to use a magical device called a computer to connect to one another. While chatting with one another, they learn that they have been placed in homes that, at first, seem to have very different cultures and beliefs. After listening to one another, they, instead, learn how very alike their forever families are to one another. Is this all in Santa's plan? Did Jinglebella and Beau know about this all along? The animals from the shelter know they are part of Santa's elite team and that they are responsible for bringing joy to their new families. Are they also responsible for teaching humans how to get along and live in peace and harmony?
The first few months of 2020 consisted of a wild ride for most of the world. The spread of the coronavirus, resulting in a pandemic, the subsequent sheltering-in-place orders, and all that followed from economic collapse to violence and unrest are the backdrop of this story. Sheltering in Place exposes that wedge of history parallel with the more personal events going on in Dora Maxwell's life. Life in Maine, it seems, has made a sharp left turn, leaving Dora, if not stunned, at least dismayed. The imploding of the economy is the perfect symbol of the rapid disintegration of life as she knew it. The death of her husband and estrangement from her son are only the beginning. When Dora stumbles onto some bizarre happenings going on under her nose right next door, a mysterious stranger arrives on the scene to help. Jake is a drifter who has luckily wandered into the right place at the right time. When Dora witnesses her next-door neighbor's assault, the action really takes off, but it is the misunderstandings and misperceptions along the way that bring the thrills, chills, and plot twists. Surprises are the order of the day. Be aware that this is Book 1 in a series. There is more excitement to come!
The title of my book, Rhythm of Life, sums up what life has been like for me, a series of ups and downs, much like that of a roller coaster ride. I knew when I began writing the book how the book would end; however, the process of writing the book was altogether different because I wasn't sure what roads I would be traveling to get to the end of the book, hence the book title, Rhythm of Life.
This book reflects on the real-life memories of an adolescent boy who had a learning disability and the academic struggles he experienced in high school as well as the teacher who befriended him and helped him overcome such a limitation, thereby changing the adolescent's life for the better in many ways.

Copper Capers is a humorous account of the experiences, arrests, and the workings of a police department. You can't make this stuff up! Each short story chapter is an incident that becomes an antidote to what would have been a very dull and sometimes dangerous shift. Funny things are said and done by people being chased and caught by the police. For example, the man who adamantly declared, "I'm not taking the Polygram test!" or the woman who stated that she was a hologram are real experiences. This book was meant to invoke a chuckle from those who can relate to some of the stories. But it also provides a look behind the curtain of how police sustain their sanity under immense pressure.
Grandfathers can have a positive influence on their grandkids. The author writes how a grandson develops an interest and a love for the sport of trapping muskrat and mink. First, Pap Keller gives his grandson Lance a brief history of trapping. Then Pap Keller and Lance start planning and making preparations for their trapping adventure together. This is followed with scouting missions and actual trapping on Big Fishing Creek in central Pennsylvania. The author shows excellent illustrations of trapping sets used to catch muskrat and mink. The descriptions and habits for muskrats and mink are included as well as a list of recommended trapping equipment. Having read this book, the reader will have enough beginning knowledge to start his own trapline. A must-read for the beginning trappers!
August 29, 1924, somewhere after ten in the evening was the last time that Alexander C. Totten was last seen alive. Until one night when I was eight, when I woke to him sitting at the end of my bed. Growing up listening to what the adults would talk about and gathering what paper trail was left behind made me question. For a man who was found dead hours after seeing his wife. Who ran off on him and the kids two and a half months before. Trying to get her to come back to be a family again. Why wouldn't I question if he indeed killed himself, or was he helped with his choice? There was a reason four generations kept that question alive instead of letting it be buried alongside him. There was a bigger reason my great grandmother, when throwing that hand full of dirt on his coffin, felt like there was something off. Follow me, Gerald J. Stalter on my journey as I take my ghostly experiences with my 2x great grandfather's ghost. Helping me understand the clues left behind to finally put his story together. He chose to lead me to the truth. Why not share it? It's true what they say! It comes back to haunt you.
In this hectic world we created for ourselves, the author says "think about it." When God created the world, once the explosive inner core moved and shifted to reveal the great oceans and landmasses, things calmed and cooled. God himself said it was very good (Genesis 1:31). And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. When we travel to beautiful, peaceful places all over the world, such as our national parks, the only disturbance to contend with is the human invasion.Christ Jesus retreated to the garden many times. There he found peace and renewal. We can find the same if we take the time to look. The author joins beautiful photos and thought-provoking poems to allow the reader to escape into the environment for which we were intended into. So if you don't have time to create or visit a beautiful garden or travel to scenic places, if you plan but never have time to walk in the woods or wade in a creek, if sunrise and sunsets have passed before your workday ends, just pick up a book.Just as a babe in the womb is safe and protected from the busy world just inches away, taking time to think peaceful thoughts and view beautiful scenes can be just a page away.Verses used are from the King James Version Bible.
Many times, human behavior ignores a situation until it becomes a problem. Predators often fall into this mindset.A mortgage could be an example of the efforts of Predator Awareness.Your mortgage is an agreement between you and your lender. It requires a commitment of a payment.Do you make the monthly payment, or wait until the bank begins foreclosure? The monthly payment is a commitment that prevents the need for the bank's foreclosure process. Simply taking care of business before it becomes a problem. If you have livestock within the boundaries of North America, you also have predators present. By acknowledging that, you are aware of the possibility of predatory pressures. It's better to acknowledge the threat and make an effort, rather than waiting until it becomes a problem. Much like taking care of the monthly payment, rather than waiting till the foreclosure process begins.Predator Awareness is about installing routinely practiced pro-active methods, rather than waiting to perform an occasional reactionary response.
This book is for the sole purpose of showing you that training is not so much about the how-tos of an exercise but much more about the why we have certain beliefs and, oftentimes, bodies to match those beliefs. Although this book talks in detail about the sport of bodybuilding and the training that goes along with it, there are parallels throughout that fit the everyday person who desires to make changes in his or her body. So take the challenge and go deep into the studies of the theories in this book and then take a look at how your thoughts and beliefs have a very strong connection to your exercise/training/workouts. Whether you are male or female, an athlete, bodybuilder, powerlifter, runner, aerobics junky, instructor, or just the average person who wants to make a lifestyle change, this book is for you!
