  • - Finding a light at the end of the tunnel from sexual abuse, incest, and harm caused by loved ones
    av Michael Banks
    186 - 287,-

As a child, Michael Banks suffered the debilitating circumstances of sexual abuse - inflicted on him by who was supposed to be a trusted family member. Now, he shares his story and provides hope for others in similar situations. When he was only five years old, Michael began to suffer intense sexual and physical abuse at the hands of their alcoholic father. With a mother already at an in-patient psychiatric unit, Michael had no one to stand up for his wellbeing. Michael knew the stakes were high for his father. A father who hid his abuse from his struggling wife and often provided hush money or gifts to veil the horrors he put his son through. Michael didn't want a new bike, or money, or things. He wanted a normal mother and father, an average life, and a childhood without abuse. As a teenager, Michael decided to turn the narrative on its head. He left the house and began seeking help for the terror he'd experienced.Throughout the trials unfairly brought against him, Michael didn't let his abuser define himself or the path his life would take. His story is a testament to the indelible strength of a human spirit, the power of healing trauma, and the courage to shed a light on male abuse. Banks wrote his memoir specifically for readers 16 years and older who have a vested interest in survival stories, abuse memoirs, and encouraging self-help stories.

Neuroscience has now discovered a pathological brain process, Hyperapoptosis, in which neurons (brain cells), die at an accelerated rate, culminating in actual shrinkage of vital parts of the brain, which occurs in neurological illnesses like seizures, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, and is now known to also occur in major so-called "mental" illnesses, severe major depression, bipolar, disorder and schizophrenia. Neurologists treat hyperapoptosis with rapid diagnostics and advanced pharmacotherapy. Unfortunately, in the current so-called "mental health care system" patients in which hyperapoptosis is occurring, are rarely identified by the many types of therapists or 80% of traditional psychiatrists who emphasize psychotherapy, and have limited background in a new specialty, clinical psychopharmacology, wherein patients in which hyperapoptosis is highly likely occurring are treated in the same manner as neurological patients, with advanced pharmacology. Unfortunately, the upshot of failure to diagnose and properly treat hyperapoptosis, is worsening symptoms, encroaching disabilities in relationships, academics and occupations as well as suicide. It's as if a hand grenade has been thrown at the quality-of-life of the affected individual. Also, a subject reviewed in the book, is the ancient classification of these illnesses as "mental." Hyperapoptosis is a PHYSICAL brain pathology. There must be less stigmatizing way to classify these illnesses.

The seven realms are hurtling toward annihilation. Can the elements of light, darkness, nature, fire, water, ice, and serpent work together to save their lands? On a distant plane of existence, as humankind waged war across the land, seven elemental gods gave to people a precious gift, meant to establish unity among their diversity. But this noble act resulted in the gods' destruction-and the creation of seven realms in their place, each populated with an elemental power. Now, as history unwinds in the realms of fire, water, nature, ice, light, darkness, and spirit-or serpent-the land decays in the absence of the gods. The fire realm grows colder by the day. The ice realm faces starvation as the hunt freezes over. The serpent realm is losing faith in the spiritual. Facing the total annihilation of all their realms, the seven kingdoms must unite. It is only by learning to work together that they can persevere through the calamity, restore their worlds, and create a new future.Weaving together an extraordinary tale and a powerful metaphor for perseverance, Kyla Galindo's Diminished Gods of Prevail is a story about the mutual need for relationships among elemental variations, and how each kind of person needs the other to survive.
