Population movements taking place in past decades, including those reaching the European Union, defy straightforward and simplistic conceptions of drivers, trajectories and forms of migration. Approaching migration journeys as non-linear processes, this book looks into the conditions and legal-policy frameworks at broad spaces of mobility interlinking several origin, transit, destination and host contexts in South/Central/Western Asia, Eastern/Central/Western Africa, Central and South America, and Europe to provide a more nuanced understanding of mixed migration. It also looks at specific migratory trends towards the European Union before and after the so-called 'migration crisis' (2009-2020), while paying particular attention to gender- and sexuality-specific dynamics and patterns.

Il volume indaga l'intersezione e la commistione di codici tra cultura umanistica emedico-scientifica, dimostrando quanto il quadro generale del rapporto fra la 'scienza'letteraria e quelle mediche e naturali (fisica, chimica, biologia) sia ricco, complesso, storicamentesedimentato, in un percorso diacronico dall'antichità al XXI secolo. Ponendo alcentro della riflessione il testo letterario, le pagine di questo libro osservano le contaminazionilinguistiche, strutturali e tematiche tra le due culture. Le scienze sono analizzatesecondo tre prospettive: come strumento, riflettendo intorno alle modalità attraverso cuile rivoluzioni mediche, scientifiche e tecnologiche hanno influenzato la costruzione retoricae linguistica dei testi; come oggetto del discorso, per interrogare le combinazioni tragli strumenti retorici e affabulatori delle tecniche di storytelling e l'(apparente) asetticitàdel discorso scientifico; e, infine, come pratica ermeneutica, indagando l'utilizzo dellescienze come strumento per l'analisi e la critica letteraria.

She was young, a determined fighter against Nazism in Germany; she was an independent socialist, a tireless writer against hatred and war; and she was an extremely courageous woman. All this would be enough to secure Hilda Monte a prominent place in the history of resistance to barbarism in 20th century Europe. Furthermore, she designed a project for a federal Europe that remains unparalleled. Among the many proposals for the future European peace, this one stands out. She edited her project in October 1943 with the renowned London publisher Victor Gollancz.Her plea: for European countries to finally put an end to the "old game of sovereignty". Lasting peace and economic development required a genuine "European revolution": solidarity throughout Europe, common federal structures, based on a shared history and the common values of humanism. She was aware that this path would be a difficult one. Hilda Monte was born in Vienna in 1914, grew up in Berlin and wrote her first newspaper articles against the rise of Hitler when she was 17. In 1933 she witnessed the "seizure of power" in Berlin. Exile in Paris and London followed. But Hilda Monte wanted to do more than just write against Nazism, and so she undertook dangerous trips to Germany. On 17 April 1945, while returning from a mission "on the ground" for the Austrian resistance, which she considered an act of European solidarity, she was shot and killed on the border near Feldkirch. Her treatise "The Unity of Europe", newly published here, is the lasting legacy of an eminent European resistance fighter.

This volume honours Federica Scarpa, a prominent figure in Translation Studies who has made a major contribution to defining, describing and researching specialised translation. In her body of research, Scarpa has successfully combined insights from a variety of approaches, from functional theories to the cultural turn and, more recently, profession-related aspects. Her approach to the study of specialised translation considers multiple dimensions (discoursal, pragmatic and service-related) and builds an organic model capable of accommodating context-based quality criteria and advances in technology. The chapters collected in the volume develop some of Scarpa's ideas and have been authored by scholars and professionals who have established a direct dialogue with Scarpa or benefited from her insights.

Onofrio Panvinio isprimarily known for his antiquarian studies about ancient Rome and for his editionof Bartolomeo Platinäs Lives of the Popes. His preoccupation with the Roman rite,however, remains until today largely unnoticed by modern scholarship.
