Die vorliegende Arbeit richtet sich gegen die bis heute dominierende Deutungstendenz in der Herodot-Forschung, Gestalt und Gehalt der Historien anhand der Maßstäbe modernen historischen Denkens zu ermitteln. Wie der Blick auf Wesensmerkmale der antiken Historiographie und die Interpretation der Historien erweisen, geht es Herodot gerade nicht um die lückenlose, empirisch beglaubigte Ermittlung und Wiedergabe diverser Ereignisketten. Ausgehend von der Einsicht in die Übertragbarkeit historischer Fremderfahrung stellt er vielmehr den geschichtlich handelnden Menschen in den Mittelpunkt seiner gezielten Auswahl und Bearbeitung von Geschichte: Im Ursachengeflecht eines konkreten historischen Geschehens vor allem die Grenzen und Möglichkeiten menschlichen Handelns auszuloten und die Darstellung im Blick darauf zu ¿verdichten¿, dies macht das Geschichtsdenken Herodots, sein Konzept historiographischer Mimesis, aus.

The book provides insights into current theoretical debates on Iberian Studies. The case studies included in the volume engage with cross-cultural relations, centre and periphery dynamics, memory and nationalism and the renewed interest for the Islamic and Sephardic in 21st century Spain and Portugal.

"I'll Take My Stand", two different Jefferson memorials, the Library of Congress Symposium, and the "New Masses" special issue testify to the diversity of Jefferson representations and his appropriators. Jefferson panegyrics in Congress and Roosevelt's borrowing from these speeches in 1945 suggest the various issues Jefferson was appropriated for.

The book will contribute to the development of health sciences and the quality of patient care, with a total of 14 scientific original research articles of which eight are on physiotherapy and rehabilitation, five on nursing, and one on health management.
