Bev and Mouse are learning how to remember. On a canal boat, a floating world, they're surrounded by past lives, memories, and unfinished business. It's a journey not of discovery or recovery, but of temporariness, of various, unexpected doings, a journey inwards, a journey of the imperfect, the impermanent, the incomplete. Along the way, floating between what they've left and what they hope to find, they find new meanings in the small, often overlooked grains of life.A story about the acceptance of transience, the importance of water, and the rare good fortune of finding the right person at the right time.

Bill Henderson had an epiphany one day after buying a plot of land high atop a hill in Maine overlooking the sea: why not build a tower "for no reason"? For this lapsed Presbyterian, it all made sense. With his spiritual life in neutral, his marriage struggling, his daughter growing up, a tower was no less appropriate than, say, hiring a shrink or buying a fast car. Ignoring the fact that he knew little about construction, and armed only with a hammer, a handsaw, a tri-square, a tape measure, and a rope, he set about erecting a modest tower upon his not-so-modest hill. Tower is Henderson's down-to-earth study of a sky-high subject that celebrates the dreamer in all of us.

Several years ago, Jon Wilson, editor of acclaimed WoodenBoat magazine, decided he'd had enough of the constant barrage of violence and misery in the media. His answer was the magazine Hope, dedicated to stories by and about uncelebrated people who make a positive difference in their communities and the world.Signs of Hope gathers the best of that journal, and restores our faith in the power of individual acts. For instance: a widow writes about the death of her husband and her struggle to endure; a counselor describes the transformative power of summer camp for children with a fatal blood disease; a psychologist discovers the vital human beings behind his patients' diagnoses; a father reveals what his newborn daughter taught him about men, women, and family. This is a collection to remind us of our common humanity and our capacity to give and to love. The magazine Hope is the winner of Utne Reader's 9th Annual Alternative Press Award and was named one of the "10 Best Magazines" by Library Journal.
