Kazunari Sakamoto (born 1943) has mainly been working on smaller residential buildings, in which he questions and explores the principles of architecture.

Clear, simple forms and structures are evident in the style of the Lugano architect couple Pia Durisch and Aldo Nolli. Their still relatively new work, such as the austere structure of the Max-Museum, Chiasso (2005) and the Vocational School Center, Cordola (2010) indicates the direction in which their stringent architecture is developing. The architects team, led by Urs Burkard and Adrian Meyer, has existed in this form since 1998. A large number of buildings that show consistent care and experimental spirit have emerged from the Baden office. Among them are significant projects such as the Dienstleistungs- und Verwaltungszentrum (Service-and Administration Centre) in Winterthur (1999/2005), the AZ Medienhaus (Media Building) in Aarau (2005), or the cemetery building in Zug (2005) with its strong design. A further, surprising station in an increasingly concise and reduced oeuvre can be seen in the Berufsbildungszentrum (Professional Training Centre) Baden (2006). The main section of the 200-page volume provides a detailed presentation of ten more recent buildings. Pier Luigi Nervi (1891-1979) may be regarded equally as an engineer and an architect. Through his efforts to create a fusion of design and execution, his perceptive observations of building practice, and the development of more than 30 patents, Nervi made an important contribution to 20th century science and technology. This unique appraisal focuses on the pioneering phase in Nervi''s life, a period in which all the basic ideas for his later constructions were developed. Text in Italian.

For over ten years, Anna Maria Kupper has been keeping a diary of images. The camera is the sculptor''s daily companion. She uses it to pursue her own obsession with observation, "viewing" the world and capturing its images. In doing so, she achieves a special resonance that can enhance the moment. The process is akin to the search for a tone, for things that leave an impression, a memory in one''s mind.In the volume''s 220 images compiled as a diary, people play an important role. They create an equilibrium with the photos of landscapes, urban spaces, buildings and interiors. That balance transforms both motifs into allegories of one''s own life that pervade the book in a serious, cheerful or sometimes melancholy mood.Text in German.

Frank Schneider, Cornelia Mattiello-Schwaller and Mike Mattiello, all three of whom were born in Solothurn but are now based in Zurich, have produced numerous competition successes. They became internationally renowned with their metal workshop design for the Zurich Dynamo youth centre, which was designed in a gripping "unity of materials". Miroslav Sik coined the term Analogue Architecture in the late 1980s. It stands for an architectural approach that is oriented towards the existing environment, its atmosphere and the construction tradition in a subtly radical way. It has made Miroslav Sik an unmistakable protagonist in Switzerland and Europe in the last 20 years. He has pursued this dedicated, anti-modernist orientation both as a teacher at the ETH Z├╝rich and in his architectural work, which shows clear continuity since 1988. This monograph compiles his existing buildings and works. Each project pursues his pugnacious architectural stance, which is anything but "modern" or modernist. Even in the simplest construction tasks, Miroslav Sik uncovers and makes tangible the work''s intrinsic dignity and noble potential. Text in English and German.

Detlef Horisberger and Mario Wagen are talented young Zurich architects who initially gained experience in renowned Swiss agencies and have excelled with numerous competition successes and impressive designs. It is rare that an architectural ensemble can be produced all at once. A true football stadium in a traditional cauldron shape that is highly coherent in itself, a geometrically clear-cut cuboid building with swimming baths and gymnasia, and two high-rise towers with modern urban apartments are all parts of a well-conceived composition that gives an identity to Lucerne''s Allmend and designs and ennobles the location in an impressive way. The project by the Lucerne architects Daniele Marques and Iwan B├╝hler is the result of a prominent, internationally announced architectural competition. The design was developed further and fine-tuned during the demanding, intensive planning phase involving a wide range of uses and users. Zita Cotti became an important exponent in the debate on high-quality living space in the greater Zurich area through her Katzenbach housing association estate in Zurich-Seebach (2007). The renowned Dutch architectural scene of the 90s was followed by a generation of architects whose buildings are less spectacularly designed, but all the more refined and aware of the location and its atmosphere.
