The book on 'Ethnomedicinal Plants of Maring Tribe, Manipur' is first of its kind among the Maring people. The study is primarily based on the survey on the use of ethno-medicines by the Maring tribe of Manipur in curing and healing various ailments, sicknesses and diseases prevalent among them. The Maring people had been using ethno-medicines since time immemorial but due to certain factors the practice had been declining. Factors like the death of the traditionally knowledgeable persons every year and the younger generations shying away from the traditional practices and paying more attention on the advance pharmaceutical medicines are few examples. The book will serve as a good reference for the students and scholars of ethnobotany, ethno-medicinal studies, bio-chemistry and other scientists and laymen.
The primary focus of the book is to understand and appreciate the tribe's syncretic worldview and its relation with Ahom and British along with rigorous interpretation of social and economic transformation of the society. So far, no systematic study has been undertaken to understand the history and culture of the Singpho tribe based on historical framework methodology with academic rigor. In this present work, a sincere attempt has been made to give a critical analyses and interpretation of the collected data to establish a new finding, which could add to existing knowledge of history and culture of Arunachal Pradesh. The book attempted to focus on the history, tradition and culture of the Singpho community of Arunachal Pradesh which are hitherto un-tapped or under-tapped. The book is based on the field work and treated the source materials in accordance with the canons of historical methods with trans-disciplinary approach. The oral traditions data derived from field research are corroborated with available archival documents, archaeology, linguistics and ethnology to reconstruct the tribe history. This book will serve as useful reference to readers irrespective of their professional and personal background for understanding and appreciating the history and culture of the Singpho of Arunachal Pradesh. This book will give a new vista of fact to the existing knowledge and understanding of the socio-magico and religious worldview of the Singpho.
In seven volumes of Flora of Eastern Ghats a total number of 3,417 species of seed plants have been enumerated; among them Dicotyledons are dominant with 870 genera with 2433 species. Monocotyledons are 34 families with 304 genera and 978 species. Gymnosperms are belonging two families and 2 genera with 6 species in the wild. In this last volume of Flora of Eastern Ghats an account on grasses, Gymnosperms, additions since the publication of earlier volumes, key to the families and Floristic analysis are given. Key to the genera of Poaceae and Key to the species of each genus are provided. Like other volumes the enumeration of the species include citation according to ICN, basionym and synonyms, if any, to connect Flora of British India and Flora of Presidency of Madras, description distribution in India and the world. Poaceae is the largest family in Flora of Eastern Ghats with 365 species. Index to families, genera and species is given at the end. Line drawings for most of the species are also given.
Eastern Ghats, one of the nine floristic zones in India, are located between 1 1°50'-22°N latitutde and 76'50'-86°30' E longitude in a north-east to south-west strike. In the present volume Systematic enumeration of Monocot families (except Orchidaceae and Poaceeae) is given. Families are arranged according to Bentham and Hooker's system with incorporation of recent changes. Under each family key to the genera, followed by genus with its authority, keys to the species, and species enumeration is given. The genera under the family and species under each genus are arranged in alphabetical sequence. Keys are of the indented type. The enumeration of the species includes citation according to ICN, basionym and synonyms if any, description and distribution in the Eastern Ghats, flowering and fruiting period, vernacular names if any, specimens examined and distribution in lndia and World. Index to families, genera, species and vernacular names are given at the end. Line drawings of most of the species and photographs of many species are also given.

If a river were to speak, it will have its say: excruciating stories of human love and strife..... the River Umkhrah that runs through Shillong speaks about Shanbor's sorrowful drowning, about village girls who chase city experiences but/and end in tragedy, reflections upon Khasi matrilineal society that supposedly empowers women, about mothers who don't know how to love, mothers who love their children too much, about the dark days of insurgency in 1990's Meghalaya.
Social Science research in the North-Eastern region continues to focus on the traditional concerns of border trade, local administration, tribal customs and governance, regional movements, migration and insurgencies so on and so forth. Whatever little literature we have on the new policy thinking serves as an official apologia and are a commissioned researches to privilege any particular finding and hardly betrays any critical engagement with the new social realties. It is time that social scientists address these questions: How much of the new policy thinking is going to benefit the North-East? Will the rest of India benefit from it at the cost of the North-East, as it is sometimes feared? What will its impact be on the ethnic scenario? Will it trigger off a new series of claims to group rights? Will it make insurgencies 'disappear' instead of solving them - as a commentator would have us believe? How is the new policy thinking going to address the traditional problems of poverty and unemployment? The impact of these forces and processes of globalization is felt almost in every Social Science discipline - Literature, Cultural Studies and Cultural Anthropology, Political Science and International Politics, Social and Political Geography, Political Economy, Sociology and Social Philosophy, Ecology and Area Studies etc. This book tries to review social science research in the North-Eastern region - status reports on various social science disciplines, formulating a new research agenda, identifying possible priority areas and highlighting the coping strategies. This volume is the outcome of a national seminar held on 27-28 March 2009 at the ICSSR North-Eastern Regional Centre, Shillong and it calls for wider readership cutting across the academia, activists and policy makers.

The book is an invaluable and entertaining guide and resource for the students and general readers. From the year 1913 to 2013, Cinema as a form travelled through a large number of spheres. When the country was under British domination and rule, it was cinema which presented the idea of freedom. When the country was going through the toughest times, it was cinema that actually talked about ideals, aspirations, religion and talked about all the possible ways to lead a better and meaningful life. Cinema as a discipline was trying to become a medium for the masses, which could emerge as something, through which people get meaning and better understanding of their lives. The present book enriched with 27 chapters contributed by experts in their respective fields. With the concepts like Capitalism, Socialism, Independence, Livelihood etc. Indian Cinema was trying to create a new territory of meaning and expertise.
