"Who Am I? I Am..." is the 10th coloring book in The Creative Representation Empire coloring book series. The purpose of this coloring book is to provide definitions and words to help individuals identify themselves starting from an understanding of ethnic backgrounds, and pronouns, to sexual orientation, and gender identity. It is our hope by empowering individuals with the verbiage to self-identify we create spaces for people's voices to be heard. This book is also being published on the 10-year anniversary of the author Winston coming out of the closet, which she did at 13. She notes that this book was a resource that she wished she had to find community with other Black and Brown LGBTQ+ community members. The Creative Representation Empire, TCRE, is a line of coloring books and other creative tools used to highlight, educate, and represent various cultures and identities. "Black Women are the Future" is a coloring book that was explicitly designed in every aspect to uplift young black and brown girls as well as women. This coloring book features some of the most prominent and groundbreaking women in U.S. history as well as a large number of examples from everyday life that hope to exemplify the beauty and grace that are black women. The name Black Women are the Future is to ensure young girls that they know that whatever the future holds for the world, they will be the ones to make it happen. The faces in the coloring book are either blank or exemplify features that we, as black women, are trained to hate about ourselves (ex. nose, lips, eyebrows). I want young women to visualize themselves as these women and to be able to color in books with women that look like them or their mothers. It is essential that children can see themselves in everything around them, whether that be movies, TV shows, books, plays, or even something as simple as a coloring book. A coloring book made for black girls by a black woman. This is a republished version of the original book done in 2019. Adventure Awaits Outside was designed to address pressing needs in our 21st-century society which is the increased amount of screen time that youth have on a daily basis AND it addresses the colorism or feelings of "not belonging" that BIPOC individuals can experience in outdoor spaces. Kids no matter their race, gender, or background need to be reminded that they are not only valuable in this world but that someone sees that value and wants to see more of it in the world around them. Adventure Awaits Outside is all about reminding kids, and maybe adults too, that although the internet, movies, and social media can show us different perspectives of life, we have to go out to experience it ourselves.
