Many believe the first concrete representation of yoga comes from present-day Pakistan.Found in the Indus Valley Civilization (2500-1500 BCE), the discovery of the Pasupathi Sealsurfaced in the late 1920s. The low relief clay stamp depicts an individual seated in a posture, surrounded by animals. Branding goods from the ancient Indian valley madethem distinguishable when trading with the Near Eastern civilizations of Egypt andMesopotamia.1 In addition to labeling market products, the logos offered a pictorial glimpse intothe culture from which the goods came. It is fascinating that the northern Indian communitydeliberately selected the iconic image of a seated posture for a marketing logo. Is it possible theseal is the oldest example of the region self-identifying with the practice of yoga? Unfortunately, conclusive deciphering of the writing system of the Indus Valley is still in progress, and acomplete understanding of the meaning behind the form is yet to be determined.

This thesis examines the ways in which transgender women who identify asbeing inside "the closet" in Bogotá, Colombia, negotiate their gender identities. Itprovides a detailed ethnographical account of the experiences of the participants bylooking at how they negotiate gender through three lenses: intimate relationships, spaceand sense of belonging. This thesis also critically addresses the concept of gender byengaging with the participants' embodied, spatialized and relational experiences offamily relationships and being in the closet. This provides the basis for discussing howthe tensions between the experiences of a sense of belonging and not-belonging enablethe participants to create strategies to reduce the conflict between their differentbelongings and maintain their intimate relationships. In this sense, this thesisunderstands gender as constantly negotiated in different contexts, with different peoplein different places. The Introduction provides a brief context of the field of this research.Chapter 2 explains how the research was undertaken methodologically. Chapters 3 and4 deal with the relationship between family relationships and gender and sexuality, arguing that family life is a key arena for negotiating them. Here I engage with theconcept of intimate citizenship and the experiences of the participants around intimatelife, and their relationships as children, parents and partners. Finally, Chapters 5 and 6concentrate on the participants' experiences participants of the closet by looking atgender and sense of belonging, arguing that the closet is not a closed off space. Itsboundaries are not fixed, as people are able to step in and out of it in dialogue withbroader society, their relationships and belongings. Indeed, as with the gendered livesof my research participants being threaded through multiple places and relationships, the closet is dynamic and productive of diversely complex negotiations andperformances of gendered being and doing.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is one of the most significant tax reforms in India, which came into effect on July 1, 2017. It has been more than three years since the implementation of GST, and it has impacted businesses in various ways. One of the sectors that have been significantly affected by GST is the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector.MSMEs are the backbone of the Indian economy, as they contribute significantly to the GDP and provide employment to a vast number of people. GST has impacted MSMEs in both positive and negative ways. Let's look at how GST has impacted local MSMEs.Positive Impact of GST on Local MSMEs:1. Simplified Taxation System: GST has replaced multiple taxes like VAT, Service Tax, Central Excise, etc. with a single tax. It has simplified the taxation system, which has reduced the compliance burden on MSMEs.2. Increase in Exemption Limit: Under the earlier tax regime, businesses with an annual turnover of Rs. 20 lakhs or more had to register for VAT. However, under GST, businesses with an annual turnover of up to Rs. 40 lakhs are exempted from GST registration. This has provided relief to small businesses and has encouraged more people to start their businesses.3. Boost in Export: GST has helped MSMEs to boost their export activities. Under GST, exporters can claim a refund of the GST paid on inputs used in the export of goods and services. This has made the exports more competitive and has provided a boost to the MSMEs sector.4. Uniform Tax Rates: GST has brought in uniform tax rates across the country. This has eliminated the earlier scenario where businesses had to pay different tax rates in different states. This has provided a level playing field to all businesses and has encouraged businesses to expand their operations to other states.

Fishing has been an essential occupation for many coastal communities around the world for centuries, providing a source of sustenance and livelihood. The history of local fishermen is a fascinating subject, as it involves the interplay of geography, culture, and technology over time.In many coastal communities, fishing has been a way of life for generations. The methods and techniques used for catching fish have evolved over time, with new technology and innovations constantly being introduced. In some places, traditional methods such as net fishing and hand-line fishing are still used, while in others, modern techniques such as trawling and longlining have become more common. The history of local fishermen is often closely tied to the geography and natural resources of the area. For example, in areas with abundant fish populations, such as the coast of Japan or Norway, fishing has played a vital role in the local economy and culture for centuries. In other areas, such as the coast of West Africa, fishing has been a means of survival for coastal communities in the face of harsh environmental conditions and political instability. The history of local fishermen also reflects the social and cultural context of the communities they are a part of. In many places, fishing has been a male-dominated profession, with skills and knowledge passed down from father to son. However, there are also many examples of women who have played important roles in the fishing industry, either as fisherwomen or as traders and processors of fish.Over time, the fishing industry has become increasingly commercialized and globalized, with fish and seafood being traded around the world. This has had both positive and negative impacts on local fishermen, as it has opened up new markets and opportunities, but has also led to overfishing and environmental degradation in some areas. In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of sustainable fishing practices, as well as the need to support local fishing communities. Initiatives such as community-supported fisheries and seafood certification programs have emerged to promote sustainable fishing practices and to ensure that fishermen receive fair prices for their catch. In conclusion, the history of local fishermen is a rich and complex subject that touches on many aspects of human society and culture. From the methods and techniques used for catching fish to the social and cultural context of fishing communities, the history of local fishermen offers insights into the ways in which people have interacted with their natural environment over time. As the fishing industry continues to evolve and face new challenges, understanding this history will be crucial for ensuring a sustainable and equitable future for both fishermen and the marine ecosystem.
