This open access book, stemming from the biennial Consortium for Southeast Asian Studies in Asia conference, confronts numerous contemporary issues in the Southeast Asia region, under the banner of the 2022 theme "Managing Disruption, Developing Resilience for a Better Southeast Asia." Providing a platform for discussion and collaboration in the fields of sociology, education, population studies, cultural studies, public health, international relations, and other humanities and social science disciplines, the range of interdisciplinary chapters focus their critical analyses vis-à-vis the interpellation of economic, social, historical, artistic, cultural, religious, and political viewpoints. Organized into three sections, the first looks at new models of economic development, the challenges to education quality, the labor market in the digital era, and the demographic changes and critical issues facing both the young and elderly in the region. The second examines disasters as a future challenge for risk management, understandings of contemporary society and culture, the digital humanities, social development in the time of COVID-19, and identities in relation to religion, minorities, and social harmony. The final section addresses diaspora, migration, the region in the pandemic, citizenship and human security, democracy, and human rights, as well as foreign policy, diplomacy, and state sovereignty in Southeast Asia. As ASEAN comes of age, there has never been a more compelling need to provide region-based perspectives to complement the deepening economic, social, and cultural integration in the region. For scholars working on Southeast Asia, "area" matters in geopolitical, economic, intellectual, institutional, social, cultural, and affective terms, and so this book transports the study of Southeast Asia from the periphery to the center, so as to enable scholars who live in and research the region to bring their research to a global readership. This open access book presents insights on the resiliency strategies of at-risk vocational education and training (VET) students in the field of learning, employment and social integration, in the Baltic countries and Norway. It investigates the ways in which vocational education and training (VET) can enhance the social inclusion of young people at-risk, both in terms of combating school dropout rates, and promoting transitions between various (social) learning contexts, such as school-work transition. Book presents the findings of the analysis of available statistical data disclosing the capacities and potential of the VET systems and providers to empower vulnerable learners in the project partner countries. In the context of VET, this book examines the situations of at-risk young people as they experience, and understand themselves, in it, and explores innovative solutions to address their challenges in collaboration between themselves, their teachers, and other community actors and stakeholders. This book describes a three-phase pedagogical framework to develop the relational and self-regulatory capacity of the student as a prerequisite for learning. It presents a staged approach which directs deep analysis and in-depth understanding of the impact of trauma for each student in their own school and classroom context. This book takes teachers through a step-by-step process which draws on current neuroscience and educator experience, to design intervention strategies that mitigate the impact of early childhood trauma on learning.

This book introduces the CAML model, a novel integration of Cellular Automata (CA) and Machine Learning (ML), designed to deliver e¿cient computation with minimal training data and low computing resources. CAML operates through two key perspectives: one where CA is enhanced by ML to handle complex non-linear evolution, and another where CA strengthens ML by leveraging linear CA evolution to process linear functions e¿ectively.The book focuses on real-world applications of CA, such as in Computational Biology, where CAML models protein chains to predict mutations linked to human diseases, using carefully designed CA rule sequences for each amino acid.
