The Modern Voice of an Irish Immigrant is author Imelda Cummins-DeMelkon''s fascinating account of her experience growing up in Ireland as one of twelve children, and the struggle for autonomy and independence that led to her choice of immigration to the United States. The author speaks honestly of the conflicts she experienced as a child and the overzealous paternal control that dominated her young life. The reader follows the author''s journey as it weaves between her experiences in both countries. Ultimately, The Modern Voice of an Irish Immigrant shows us that through a deep commitment to personal growth, one can indeed emerge whole and able to enjoy a full and complete life. Among the highly interesting topics the book explores are the changing face of the Catholic Church in Ireland and the United States, the uniform wish of immigrants to recreate the best of the culture they left behind, what it is to be a conscientious parent, the reality of ill and aging parents, and finally, the joy of the discovery of a life that is worth the often challenging effort. Imelda Cummins-DeMelkon, a former teacher, was born in Ireland and moved to the United States in the late 1980s. • - A Century of Myopia and Acerebral Waste - A Perspective of a Post-Independence Nigerian (1914-2014)
    av Yinka Kolawole
    336,-

Nigerians are the most enduring and the most important natural resource of their country. Affordable electricity, access to the Internet, and qualitative education will unleash forces that will be greater than oil and gas, and will outlive them. Subjugation of these potential energies amounts to acerebral myopia and a waste. The military has destroyed Nigeria''s past; it must not be allowed to ruin the future.Give the poor and their children the "tool" they need, and they will fly over Nigeria, far above the dark clouds that cover it.Lord Lugard''s Nigeria: A Century of Myopia and Acerebral Waste - A Perspective of a Post-Independence Nigerian (1914-2014) poses a lot of questions and provides a lot of answersAuthor Yinka Kolawole hails from Nigeria. His book offers an insightful look at his homeland, one of the most misunderstood countries on the planet. Lord Lugard''s Nigeria: A Century of Myopia and Acerebral Waste - A Perspective of a Post-Independence Nigerian (1914-2014) sheds new light on the history this West African nation. Says the author, "Obstacles are those frightful things that you see when you take your eye off the goal. If the door does not open, knock again and again, and again, and again till it opens."Nigeria is potentially one of the giants of Africa and indeed the world. Myopia and acrebral waste by functional semi-illiterate military dictators in khaki has ruined Nigeria and continues to ruin the country. The instinct of the military is akin to those of armed robbers, as they operate by force of arms over unarmed and defenceless civilians. Military rule imposed by force of arms against unarmed and defenceless civilians is government of the people, not by the people, and not for the people.Civilian rule is not always democratic rule. Civilian rule imposed upon the people by vote-rigging machines called political parties are as effective as guns as an instrument of oppression of the people and looting of the treasury.Civilian government of the people, not by the people, and not for the people, is exactly the same as military government, as they are the masters of the people. The people did not appoint them, and the people cannot sack them.Nigeria should be governed with the best interests of children at the forefront of all that is done. Their anticipated future needs must be the pillar of every plan.Nigerians are the country''s most important natural resource, and will last far longer than its gas and oil reserves. Treat the people well and the country will respond in kind.Above all, give the poor and their children the "tool" they need to fly Nigeria above the dark clouds that cover it.Publisher''s website: http://sbprabooks.com/YinkaKolawole

  • - Distant Worlds Coming as One
    av Matthew McKissick
    117

The world is changing drastically, modernizing in ways that will shape future generations. Although the opening of borders and the unity of cultural differences have brought some uniformity in beliefs toward world peace, they have also caused a crisis affecting the survival of future generations. While advancement in technology and cultural unity are credited for creating a better world, these blessings have also brought forth a greater intensity, and future generations must be more assertive toward reaching their goals and successes. Underprivileged people from foreign countries now have access to the same opportunity for future careers in prestigious jobs, and they have greater ambition and desire than their competitors, the laid-back privileged individuals.Though overpopulation and economic changes will always cause a struggle for employment, there will be a greater opportunity for those parents who are aware of the changes affecting their child''s future displacement of jobs. In this new century and millennium, every child''s future will be at risk. So parents need to be aware of the crisis ahead in which their child is vulnerable and could become a lost soul in a world of expectations. If parents want their child to have future job prosperity and success, this insightful book will warn them of the dangers ahead. Otherwise, all the time and finances invested toward their child''s future well-being will have no value.Highly recommended for parents of newborns and parents who have young children ages 3 to 9http://sbpra.com/MatthewMartinMcKissick

Travels in Consciousness speaks to our urgent need to achieve higher levels of consciousness as individuals, organizations and societies. Our level of consciousness determines the energy field in which we live. The field at the highest level of awareness is the All-and-Everything, an awakened state of connectedness, inclusion and fulfillment. At the level of unawareness, however, this same field is called Flatland, a field of conflict, greed and alienation. In this fascinating and transformative book, the path to higher levels of awareness is clearly mapped out for each personality style, and the spiritual paths of the great wisdom traditions are accurately profiled according to the Enneagram. The barriers we now face in achieving higher levels of consciousness are dealt with in depth, including the shadow side of our personality, which is called the Beast. Travels in Consciousness provides both the understanding and the practical resources we need for raising our level awareness toward a global transformation. • - A Girl, a Harp at the Bedside of the Dying
av Ba Mus Hons Angela Sciberras
    155

Death the Door, Music a Key is an invitation to join a journey that is not always easy, but might just alter the way you think about how you live your life. The journey begins in the fragile moments just before life ends, as we sit beside the deathbed and seek to understand this sacred process through the eyes of a harpist. This book of stories tells of ordinary people in the midst of extraordinary moments: people experiencing grief, loss and the anticipation of death. For the most part, however, it is the story of the author, who followed a calling to sit with the dying and share her music."It paints a picture of the work that I do as a harpist who plays intuitive music at the bedside, the restorative qualities of the harp, and the gift that it brings many. It is my hope that through telling these stories, not only will the lives of those who I have played for be honoured, but also their death. It is my hope that their story will serve as a reminder to others that this experience does not have to be frightening, though it requires acceptance, and acceptance requires courage. This acceptance of death can be rarely found, and when it is, it is unmistakable, for their peace seems to permeate everything and everyone around them."About the Author: Angela Sciberras of NSW, Australia, brings readers a new perspective of death and dying, and the role that the arts and music can play. "The power of one person to make a difference is immense."Publisher''s website: http://www.SBPRA.com/AngelaMSciberras

In 1999, she attended a Bible study where the teacher asked everyone to share a story of God''s grace in our lives."The rest of the class said something like, ''I can''t think of a time of grace in my life.'' I thought my grandchildren might say the same thing. They were teenagers, so I decided the best way to communicate with them was by e-mail. I wrote and sent them one story each week. As friends heard what I was doing, they asked to receive the stories as well. Eventually, I had so many stories, they would fill a book!""Oh brother! • - McGrath's Hypothesis: And the Scientfic Revolution Going on Right Now
    av Ed McGrath
    171

A basic claim of this book is that modern science has found us humans to be much less smart and rational than we have throughout our long history led ourselves to believe we are. Because of this important difference, we humans are much more likely than we think to cause our own nuclear extinction in the near future. Although Ed McGrath is a college graduate and has been interested in science most of his life, he majored in other subjects until he decided to become a psychology professor in his early forties. He returned to California State University in Los Angeles and achieved perfect grades in experimental psychology as an undergraduate and for his master's degree. He then successfully fulfilled the course requirements for a Ph.D. at the University of California. Discovering that human psychology was not based on much evidence, he also attended anthropology lectures on human evolution, hoping to find improvement potential for psychology. However, one professor warned Ed that he and the five professors on Ed's Ph.D. research committee did not like Ed's reputation for questioning the lack of testable evidence in classes and seminars, and eventually dismissed him from the Ph.D. program. Although Ed was initially disappointed, he found time to inquire into other related modern scientific discoveries. He began to see new and more important relationships among some of these discoveries and his own beliefs. That set of related discoveries eventually became an important component of this book.About the Author: Ed McGrath is a retired property tax expert, assessor and realtor. Originally from New York City, he now lives near Pasadena, California.
