Raymond Hebbard, the son of the night man grows up an only child in a Victorian country town. His mother's love cannot protect him from his violent, alcoholic father. Raymond Hebbard is damaged goods. The boy is seen as an alien, a friendless misfit in the small community. The trauma Raymond Hebbard carries inside means that a fire is always ready to ignite in his chest and given the right circumstances it could explode and then beware those around him. When his mother is close to death from a cancer, she finds Raymond an escape route and he moves to live with his Uncle Colin. Under his Uncle's protective wing Raymond begins to grow as a person and those around him can no longer see the son of the night man, just Raymond. Yet there is no sense of home for him, no sense of belonging. Eventually, circumstance and a new confidence see him challenge himself and he travels to the other side of the world, to a small village in the desert of Botswana. Raymond has fallen out of the sky into the desert. He loves the warmth of the women in his compound and he grows to feel that this simple way of life is made for him. He finds a lover, he finds a friend. He discovers that no one can see his baggage, no one can see the son of the night man: neither in the school compound nor in the family compound. He is no longer the misfit, the alien. But as his Uncle Colin liked to say, life is not always a picnic and the challenges thrown up by the presence of two other men in the village will severely test the son of the night man. The fire in his chest is still there and if ignited, he stands to lose all that life in the desert has offered him.

This book is a light-hearted exploration of what Australia's 'Mad Men' and women get up to. Its central character is Dan Atkins, Creative Director of advertising agency ADD, but the story revolves around something much more serious; a government pitch where the PM, threatened with defeat in the forthcoming election, needs a climate change campaign that buys his government essential green votes. While he is the ultimate climate change denier, he is also the consummate politician. ADD is invited to pitch. We meet the advertising agency people. We discover how research groups are really ruling the world. And Dan goes from knowing very little about climate change to becoming aware and alarmed. This is thanks to Emma, who works at his local café and is doing a PhD in climate science. Dan starts falling in love. Dan's life away from work is complicated. He has a close relationship with his ex-wife Rachel, and an even closer one with two characters that appear in his subconscious - a limo-driving dwarf and an Emperor penguin. In the end the agency loses the pitch. The government loses the election, but Dan gets the girl - and not necessarily the one we think.

This book is my third book under my pen name and it's the one most dear to me. This piece deals with experiences that has forever shaped me into the woman I am today. I candidly speak about dealing with abuse as a child, whether that was physical, emotional, verbal and even sexual abuse.I hope this book allows you to look in the mirror and be strong enough to face your demons, as writing it did for me.

How much longer?Because I can officially admit.. That I'm tired now.I'm tired of staying silent.Tired of excusing the violence.Tired of remaining stagnant.Tired of picking up the very fragmentsOf meThat people don't even take the chanceTo noticeTo seeThe very shards of glass in my kneesAs I kneel, weak and bleedOutFor helpSo how much longer do I takeAnd tolerate the bare minimum? How much longer do I remain in this position of being broken & bleeding?Twenty more years? To remain unseen?Unheard?Unnoticed?Unhealed?Twenty more yearsOf being mistreated? Misunderstood ?Of being mishandled?I don't think so.
