This book is a response to a need. Christian nurses, in a wide range of settings, perform their work based on beliefs drawn from their faith, but until now they''ve had no specifically Christian theoretical foundation to help them. Nurses working in the emerging field of "Parish Nursing" in particular need a framework that helps them explicitly link the tenets of faith and concepts of health in their practice, education, and research. Nurses of other faiths may also find the framework useful in seeing a way to relate their own beliefs and values to their nursing. In the book''s Introduction the author tells why she devoted her doctoral research to theory development and how she went about doing that. The body of the book describes her nursing conceptual framework in depth, yet in an informal "reader friendly" style. The concluding chapter answers the question "Now what?" and helps readers make practical applications in their everyday lives. The four major components of the Faith and Health Framework are presented in detail: Person/Parishioner, Health/Shalom-Wholeness, Nurse/Parish Nurse, and Community/Parish, with the integrating component The Triune God. Described under each component are two organizing concepts, which in turn contain other key concepts, such as: mission, ministry, compassion, competence and communion.Various perspectives on the Framework are depicted in several full-color stained glass figures and in an inspirational poem written by the author. There are extensive bibliographic references and quotations from The Holy Bible, throughout, plus Appendices of relevant materials and resources.
This is the story of a rambunctious lion cub, Tofali, who stumbles upon a cave deep in the forest. What he finds there frightens him and he runs to warn the other animals of the terrible monster that tried to attack him in the cave. When the other animals investigate, Cheka, a hyena, sees something that frightens him so he also warns the other animals of a ghost or monster. It takes Paka, a leopard cub, his mother Nina, Abu, a giraffe, and Punda, a zebra, to solve the mystery and bring trust and peace back to the community. This is a story for children about fear, prejudice, trust and cooperation and family values and what it takes to solve problems when the unknown threatens friendships.
To help children realize that pets are not much different from them, and that a commitment to a pet is very important and special. I would like to encourage children to have a pet, and that pets can be fun as well as a commitment. If a pet is treated with love, respect and care, the love and devotion in return is incredible.
Lucy is a little red fox who has a secret; she can fly. Her heart soars when she takes to the skies. One afternoon, after her fellow foxes see her flying, they shame her, yelling, "Everyone knows that foxes can''t fly." Lucy hears their words and for a brief moment, believes them, and falls to the ground. This only reinforces her self-doubt. She begins to lose her playful spunk and the sheen of her coat grows duller by the day. Lucy has become a sad, disheartened, and disempowered little fox. One night the wise old story fox appears out of the forest to share an evening of foxlore with Lucy''s pack. He tells the story of Milton, a young fox that was long ago banished from the land for learning to swim like a fish. It was the banishment of Milton that gave rise to the popular saying used by older foxes when they see the young ones straying, "You don''t want to end up like Milton, remember, ..." and they chant, "Neither fox nor fish." The old story fox''s tale unsettles Lucy. After tossing and turning and trying to sleep (counting sheep doesn''t work for a fox), Lucy goes to the pond for a drink. There, she meets the wise old story-fox. Through the magic of this encounter, she learns to believe in herself again, her paws lift from the ground and she, once again, points her nose up and takes to the skies.
