In Toward World Sovereignty, Taylor maintains that permanent world peace and the continuing progress of human evolution require that the nations of mankind come together soon to establish a single world democratic federal government. In the author's opinion, the increasing risk of human extinction that is directly associated with the relentless proliferation of nuclear weapons would appear to preclude any viable alternative considerations.

Based on hitherto unused manuscript material, War, Politics and Diplomacy examines the origin, development and collapse of the Anglo-Prussian alliance against the complex backdrop of European politics during the Seven Years War (1756-63). Unlike earlier books in the field, this study views the alliance not as a static entity but as a flexible, dynamic instrument of statecraft ever responsive to military and diplomatic shifts. By examining, for the first time, the disintegration of the alliance in a light of preceding intra-alliance relations, Karl W. Schweizer demonstrates that its failure was certain from the conditions of its formation, the progress of the war, and above all, from the disparate aims and interests of the two partners, England and Prussia. This new approach to the history of the alliance produces a fundamentally different interpretation of its overall development, a disbelief in its prospect of survival after the war and hence a modified evaluation of the role played by the principal statesmen involved.

In Back to Revelation-Inspiration, Fernando L. Canale, analyzes the two main ways in which Christianity has understood the origin of biblical knowledge. Canale proposes a way to overcome them by suggesting a new model of understanding that maximizes their strengths and avoids their weaknesses. By allowing us to see and use biblical knowledge in a new light, the new model uncovers a new foundation for theological knowledge.
Tainted Perceptions asserts that beginning with the pre-Tiananmen Square incident of 1989, American popular and institutional images of China focused on the reformist nature of the government, but following the military crackdown in June 1989, this optimism dwindled and resulted in the creation of an ambivalent cross-cultural atmosphere toward the Chinese for the next half decade. When Chinese leaders decided to undertake military exercises in the Taiwan Strait in mid-1995, America''s perception of the PRC swung even further in a distinctly negative direction; an event that marked the outset of a three year period during which Chinese military modernization and economic expansion were viewed as a direct threat to the international political hegemony of the United States.
Loving and Dying is a reading of three dialogues (Phaedo, Symposium, and Phaedrus) which, using the figure of Socrates conversing in three different concrete situations, in complementary fashion address death, love, and reflection, as matters central to finding and understanding life''s meaning and to sharing in the kind of immortality that is open to a human being. The intent of the work is simply to bring to attention how the dialogues register as drama and how they achieve this provocation of the reader to reflection on these central matters in human life.
Will China remain stable and what will be the intentions of her leaders? Can Japan map out a new role for the worlds largest economy, another Meiji Revolution? Will Indonesia be able to hang together as it attempts, once again, to find some formula for a nation-state from its very disparate elements? Is India doomed to struggle on in a mire of social and economic problems or will possible recognition of its new hegemonic role in South Asia by the U.S. and the West generally, bring a new era? Will Pakistan overcome its current crisis of identity, somehow synthesizing intensification of Islamic values (whatever that may mean) and nationhood with falling off the precipice of fanaticism? Can Thailand, once again, exhibit that special knack of riding the crest of any wave that strikes the area- or is a fundamental new step toward modernization too difficult? Through Asian Eyes: U.S. Policy in the Asian Century evaluates these issues through the Asian perspective.

To preach the Word of God boringly, lifelessly or indifferently is a travesty of biblical preaching. Contemporary preaching appears powerless because the preacher is unctionless. For preaching to transform lives and not merely to transmit knowledge, preachers need the unction of the Holy Spirit.

The War on Poverty of the 1960s is often treated in academic and popular literature as a transient phenomenon. However, most of the early War on Poverty programs have not just survived but have expanded. Most people are familiar with Head Start but far fewer recall its origins in the War on Poverty. Subsequent chapters cover the origins, evolution, and current status of particular programs, including: Community Action, Job Corps, Volunteers in Service to America, Head Start, Legal Services, Community Health Centers, Foster Grandparents, Senior Community Service Employment, Weatherization Assistance, and Low Income Home Energy Assistance. Several other programs are consolidated in a single chapter.

In Where Myth and History Meet, Craig Payne draws upon the work of Mircea Eliade, C.S. Lewis, and others, to present a view of the relationship between myth and Christianity. The author briefly argues against two other views of this relationship: the view that biblical writings are to be accepted as straightforward history, with no regard to their mythic content or parallels; and the view that biblical writings (especially the Gospels) are simply another form of myth, with no regard to their presentation as factual history.
Meyer Cornelis Smit (1918-1981) taught history and philosophy in the Free University at Amsterdam for a quarter century. Toward a Christian Conception of History presents the harvest of his scholarly output. The relation between God and history and the problems inherent in articulating that relation in a manner consistent with historic Christian belief and modern ideas of historical existence is the central theme of Smit's writing. Smit discusses the influence of one's world view on the practice and appreciation of history, the significance of the question of the meaning of history as an answer to the a-historical-mindedness of our time, and the fundamental flaw of the modernist theory of knowledge and philosophy of science.
