War has been the most extensive human preoccupation ever since the emergence of the first enlightened civilization. Notwithstanding the preceding, it has remained one of the least researched social domains. One of the significant reasons was the exclusive control of war by authoritarian heads of the states, who were generally averse to criticism. Besides, human life did not hold any value for them. It was only after the Napolean wars that military scholars of Europe started seriously studying the war and came up with their dissertations. For the better part, before WWI, the doctrines of Clausewitz and Jomini influenced most of the European and New World nations. Surprisingly, no one stressed the dynamic nature of the art of war and the need to ensure the currency of the theory/philosophy. Only after the horrifying end of WWI, in which close to 10 million soldiers laid down their life, primarily due to lack of a helpful military doctrine, did the world realise that there was something seriously wrong with how the war was conducted. While Russia and Germany, as defeated nations, quickly accepted the reality and started working to fathom the causes, the Allied decided to gloat over their victories and allowed the feeling "all is well" to prevail. The consequence was the invention of the operation level of war that bridged the gap between Strategy and tactics by the Russians. They inferred tactical battles conducted in isolation alone could not produce strategic results. It was essential to aggregate the outcome of tactical battles to attain strategic goals. The employment of large-sized field formations (corps, group of corps/armies, theatre) in the war required coordination to achieve synergy of all war resources available to the commander in time, space, and objective. The book deals with all aspects of operational art.

Chandigarh is a giant experiment in town planning and architecture in India and the world. Being one of the best cities planned and built afresh on virgin land, Chandigarh attracted the global community of architects, planners, and historians. Resultantly, copious works have been written on Chandigarh, and much literature exists on the subject."Making of Chandigarh: A Vintage History" is the latest addition to the number of books written by various authors on this subject. Of all the treatises published earlier, this book is unique in its approach, contents, and presentation. The book focuses on recording the process of making a city through 575 black-and-white photographs. Several photographers have clicked these photographs since the city's inception in 1950 till the 1990s. This book is a tribute to the numerous known and unknown photographers who recorded the history of Chandigarh through their photographs. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and photographers are worth a million. Imagine, if we glance through hundreds of pictures clicked on a particular subject over a period of 40 years beginning in 1950, how easy it will be to grasp the historical aspect of that subject! With this aim, the "Making of Chandigarh: A Vintage History" has been conceived and presented as a pictorial journey of the city.Apart from the rich collection of vintage photos, the book includes more than 50 drawings of important city buildings and campuses. An elaborated essay, 'Making of Chandigarh', explains the whole story of the capital city and throws light on the essential campuses, complexes and buildings designed by master architects like Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Maxwell Fry, Jane Drew, and their Indian colleagues.

Spirituality in the right light is the only way to divine path. The present book is about highlighting spirituality in our Sri Jai Krishni (Mahanubhav) Panthi rituals. This book offers a thorough understanding of being spiritual and reasons and facts behind it. This book tries to answer this question: why do we need to live spiritually? It decodes spirituality and brings clarity to our daily rituals. This book further endeavours to synergize the teachings of Lord Krishna and Mahanubhav Panth. It clears some basic popular notions. The whole motive behind the book is to help the younger and newer followers of the Mahanubhav Panth to understand its basic principles. At another level, this book shares how to connect to a higher consciousness by elevating our awareness and understanding of reality. It is important for us to understand the mechanism of cosmos, so that we can keep our thoughts aligned with the mechanism and embrace the process. The main aim is to move us closer to the supreme soul- Sri Krishna and to connect ourselves to a higher self. To live spiritually, one needs to understand Self, and realise consciousness. That appears to be the only way. And after understanding the whole process, we will not feel we are conditioned by the society or social practices. We will feel emancipated from expectations, and everything will gradually tune in.Once we have such an understanding and reasoning, it becomes easier for us to practice. I am neither a mystic nor a hermit. However, I am inclined towards spirituality and our daily religious practices and desire to make them an intelligent way of life by simplifying them.

The COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown from 01 April 2020 to 31 July 2022 [my dates for the purpose of this book] was for me in a somewhat selfish sense of the word a period of an incredibly enhanced versatile creativity. I produced an enormous amount of reflective writing in both prose and poetry. Although all the thoughts that occurred to me during the Nature-forced quarantine were recorded both in prose and poetry, I have put them into two separate books to avoid confusion-and to preserve the two independent forms of the Literary Arts in their pristine glory. This publication is a compilation of COVID-19 PROSE under the title of Stray Musings. The sister publication is exclusively devoted to COVID-19 POETRY that has been compiled under the title Wayward Verses.Despite the lingering presence of COVID-19, because I am still alive, and in good health, I have every reason to believe and hope that whatever else Corona-forced quarantine worldwide might have done to Humankind, it surely has corroborated my curious credo. Unless every individual human person sits alone to reflect at leisure on the Mystery of Existence vis-à-vis their idiosyncratic encounters with it, there never can be any eternal ecstasy in the Mortal World. With this small dose of my homespun metaphysics, I warmly invite you to my World of COVID-19 Creativity. You will readily figure out that as I had recorded my thoughts as they sprang up within my mind, they follow neither any rational order nor a deliberate plan. However, they have found their mode of expression in prose or poetry as instinctively suited to their bubbly merrymaking spirit as if in the gay-abandon celebration of mortal existence to assert jubilantly that Death never can kill Life-whether it is COVID-19 or any other mass-killer pandemic.About the Author: Founder-Teacher and former Principal, Chandigarh College of Architecture, Dr SS Bhatti is India's most versatile professional-architect, artist, art & literature critic, poet, singer, musicologist, writer, philosopher, and mystic. He applies the tools of Theory, Practice, Research, and Pedagogy to the study of four major fields of human endeavour: the Humanities, Art, Science, and Technology besides Culture and Comparative Religion. As the inventor of this novel approach to the study and understanding of human creativity vis-à-vis human predicament he has discovered Spiritual Realities that illuminate the purpose, path, and salvation of human life. An Army Neurosurgeon writing his memoirs could be a rarity, but then author's four decades (almost) in the Indian Army as a doctor (in excess of three decades as a neurosurgeon) has indeed given him a sack-full of events and experiences, something that is just waiting to be shared. Beginning with the undergrad days at the Armed Forces Medical College Pune, the events and people that have shaped author's destiny awaits to be shared. Written from the perspective of a doctor and a neurosurgeon dealing with illnesses that require operating on the brain and spinal cord of men, women and children and being rewarded with gratitude and ecstasy when they recovered, and a feeling of emptiness with hours and days of introspection when they didn't, adding layered maturity to the (often wounded) psyche. The text is not chronicled as a documentary. Rather it is intended to be an account of inspiring, evocative and sobering recollection of author's own interactions with the men, women and children who placed their unflinching faith in him when they or their family members were sick. A debt of gratitude is owed to them. Some of the moments of author's family life too get intimately interwoven with the narration, that takes the reader back and forth in time as though negotiating a wormhole of time. With each day an education and another learning opportunity, it has been a never-ending journey on the learning curve. It is believed that the memoirs will find resonance with the neurosurgeons, neurologists, doctors, specialists, men and women and students who may or may not belong to healthcare professions, across the continents.

Many rulers had come and gone, but a few made an indelible niche in Indian history. Siraj-ud-Daulah was among them though he ruled hardly a little over a year. He was the first and last independent Nawab of the Bengal Subah (province) under the reign of Mughal emperors.Unlike his predecessor Nawabs, he dared to defy the farman of the Mughal emperors, not just once, but twice, before declaring himself as an independent Nawab. Also, he was the first ruler to take upon the East India Company and even seized their factory in Cossimbazar and their establishment at Fort William, in Calcutta, when his suzerainty was questioned by them. He was the victim of conspiracy from his own family, betrayal from his Amy chief, the nobles of his court and above all, the British East India Company. He effectively dealt with his internal enemies, especially his aunt Ghasetti Begam whom he placed under house arrest after confiscating all her property. The second was his cousin, Shoukat Jung, who obtained, through the back door, a farman from the Mughal emperor, declaring him the Nawab of Bengal province by defeating and killing him in a battle. It was the quirk of the fate that Siraj should face defeat in the Battle of Plassey with the East India Company. The irony was that, though Siraj had a vast army of about 50000 strong and was backed by the French artillery, he faced defeat at the hands of Robert Clive of EIL, who had just 3000 men strong army. This was made possible by the handiwork of Siraj's army Chief, Mir Jafar, who entering into a conspiracy with the British, betrayed the Nawab by offering no resistance of the three-fourths of the military at his Command. He was being collaborated by his co-traitor commanders, Mir Latif and Rajbhallab. But for this, Siraj could have vanquished the British and even driven them from Bengal and India. It is rightly said that "Siraj stood like a huge rock against the EIC, over whose tomb the Company Raj was established."About the Author: Born on 8th February 1948, the author obtained his MBBS degree in 1970 and MD, in 1980, from Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam. He has a flair for writing and wrote a few short stories and a novelette in Telugu. He has, to his credit, about two dozen scientific publications in various international journals. This is his maiden novelette in English. The heroic character of Siraj-ud-Daulah sketched with the historical perspective, is hoped would make an interesting read.

The Zero State offers an all-new concept for comprehending emotions and provides a new approach to self-examination and self-control. As individuals, we encounter various obstacles in our daily lives, both internal and external. To effectively address these challenges, it is crucial to have a thorough understanding of ourselves. It is essential to recognize that participation holds more significance than winning or losing, and the process is more valuable than the outcome. Cultivating this mindset requires self-reflection and a strong command over our emotions and mental states. Among all the mental states, the zero state is the most effective in aiding self-discovery.
