    - How Gratitude, Grief, and Grace Reflect the Christian Story
    av Drew Hyun
    185

Whether it is hearing an old, familiar song on the radio, being dazzled by the fading light of another sunset, or relishing time spent with a good friend, our lives are often touched by a longing for the good and the beautiful. We grasp for it, longing to hold on, and yet we all know the daily reality of loss and disappointment. We cannot hold on to the things we love and cherish, and inevitably lose the people and things we most love. The human experience is full of both beauty and disappointment, and throughout history we have tried to make sense of the world that we inhabit and how we can navigate through the tension of all that is good and broken in the world. Yet most of our attempts to avoid loss simply lead to greater anxiety--an unresolved fear that we will eventually lose what we most love and need. Sadly, even our attempts at avoiding loss lead to more anxious lives. In Beautiful, Disappointing, Hopeful, Drew Hyun offers a way of understanding the human experience through the Scriptures while offering practices of Gratitude, Grieving, and Grace as ways of centering our lives more fully into a holistic spirituality, showing us why our avoiding loss is not the biblical pathway to experiencing beauty. Because we cannot avoid loss, we must learn to go through it--but we do not do this alone. The good news we desperately need is that the promise of Jesus and his Resurrection gives us hope that helps us to navigate ordinary loss every day. Hyun encourages us to engage with three simple practices--gratitude, grieving, and grace--that can build lasting spiritual resilience as we learn to grow through our loss and disappointment.

    - 8 Shifts to Encourage and Empower the Next Generation of Leaders
    av Daniel Yang
    185

Are Church Leaders Missing the Generational Handoff? There's Still Hope. Are we building institutions that will meaningfully serve the next generation of believers and their leaders? How does a church thrive in a culture where we have to earn credibility? How do we create a sense of belonging to the body of Christ and a strong sense of identity for the next generation?Becoming a Future-Ready Church is a blueprint to guide you through eight critical shifts to help lead your church into the future with wisdom and hope. It describes several major converging trends that will greatly impact the church in America over the next few decades: the Great Resignation of Boomer leaders from churches, the shrinking percentage of Christians in America, and the change in felt needs among rising generations shaped heavily by anxiety, skepticism, and fragmentation.Missiologist and pastor Daniel Yang, religion journalist Adelle Banks, and church researcher Warren Bird have come together in Becoming a Future-Ready Church to help church leaders evaluate whether their ministries are entrenched in strategies that worked well in the past but need to be adapted for the future. By helping us ask better questions about the issues and needs facing the church, they reveal practical ways in which the next generation of church leaders can gain a sturdier foothold as they navigate into the future.

    - An Invitation to Be Held by Jesus When Others Let You Go
    av Tabitha Panariso
    185

When everyone else leaves, Jesus stays. When all fails, Jesus remains.Rejection is inevitable. Yet we spend little time considering the significant impact it makes on an individual's whole self. When we do, we swaddle it in quippy statements and shallow encouragement--meaningful for just a moment. But rejection--like abandonment, betrayal, and estrangement--leaves aching wounds that challenge and forge our most intimate thoughts of who we believe God, others, and ourselves to be.In Loyal in His Love, Tabitha Panariso blends biblical truth, candid personal stories, and timeless wisdom forged through personal experience and her vocation as a therapist to invite readers into a new way of living. The heart that suffers rejection can't be cured. It must be resuscitated. Its condition warrants more than just platitudes--it merits the full attention of a loyal and loving God.This isn't just another Christian self-help book. Though Tabitha makes ample room for the hurting to process their own stories, points them to God's faithfulness, and challenges the way they think--she doesn't stop there. Jesus lived a life and death marked by rejection. Yet we remember Him for His compassion and generosity. He was and is proof that we could be remembered that way too. Thus, Tabitha guides readers through the life and death of Jesus as a means of counter-cultural response to the pain of rejection.Loyal in His Love ends squarely on the triumph of Christ's resurrection--not just as an antidote but a daily supplement. His restoration is ours--alive and active in our hearts, bodies, and lives. Each devastating moment of rejection is an opportunity to build bridges that will lead us into and through living hope and transformation.

    - What Art Teaches Us about the Wonder and Struggle of Being Alive
    av Russ Ramsey
    233

Beyond a mere introduction to great art, Van Gogh Has a Broken Heart is about loving to learn what art has to teach us about the wonder and struggle of being alive.Did you know that: Vincent van Gogh's attempt to start an artist's colony with Paul Gauguin lasted only nine weeks, ending in his infamous "ear episode"?Pablo Picasso was a prime suspect in the disappearance of the Mona Lisa?Artemisia Gentileschi was tortured with thumbscrews to verify her testimony at her own rapist's trial?Norman Rockwell's critics said his work would never be accepted as "high art"--and he agreed? These stories--and many more--shaped the work these artists left behind. In their art are lessons common to the human experience about the wonder and struggle of being alive: dreams lost, perspectives changed, and humility derived through suffering. In Van Gogh Has a Broken Heart, Russ Ramsey digs into these artists' stories for readers who may be new to art, as well as for lifelong students of art history, to mine the transcendent beauty and hard lessons we can take from their masterpieces and their lives. Each story from some of the history's most celebrated artists applies the beauty of the gospel in a way that speaks to the suffering and hope we all face.

    - Wine's Story of Faith, Feasting, and Fellowship
    av Gisela H Kreglinger
    185

Have you ever wondered what Jesus would drink? Was his family perhaps involved in growing vines and making wine? What would their family celebrations have been like? And what might this tell us about God and how he wants us to live today? Food and wine have become such hot topics in our culture, and yet there is so much confusion and ambivalence around it as well. We are so far removed from the world of the Bible and the agrarian life that it represents. It is hard to envision the farms and fruit orchards, the village wells and sheep herds, the olive groves and vineyards that Jesus would have walked by every day. Wine is the most talked-about food in the Bible, and yet so much of the evangelical world has neglected this important biblical theme and fragrant gift of God. Drawing on her upbringing in a long-standing family tradition of winemakers and her degrees in biblical studies and spiritual theology, Gisela Kreglinger introduces readers in a light-hearted way to the theme of wine in the Bible, throughout the history of the church, and in the church's feasting and fellowship today. She also addresses how many Christians are fearful or concerned about wine because of the challenges of alcohol abuse, how to nurture a culture of healing from such disorders, and how we are called to celebrate God's gift of wine to grow into a fuller understanding of the gospel as we await the return of the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. In this book, Gisela shows Christians that wine is a gift from God that we are to receive with gratitude and enjoy in wholesome, communal, and redemptive ways.

  • - A Rallying Cry for Conservative Women
    av Penny Young Nance
    201

Tired of inauthentic prattle, CEO and president of Concerned Women for America Penny Young Nance is ready to change the way women today engage the culture. In her debut title, Feisty & Feminine, she takes an honest and transparent look at what it means to be a conservative Christian woman with thoughtful commentary on the real issues confronting American women.';Conservative women have never fit neatly into stereotypes, especially conservative Christian women,' says Penny Young Nance. ';We're not the humorless, dim-witted ';church ladies' Saturday Night Live has made us out to be. Today's conservative women are intelligent, well-educated, compassionate, accomplished, funny, and fearlessand it's time for us to stand up and be heard. In fact, we have an opportunity like never before to offer words of redemption to a world gone mad.'From Miley Cyrus to campus feminists, it's clear that women are still searching for their voice in culture today. With Hillary Clinton running for president in 2016, there is even more of a need for a compelling, conservative, and credible female influence in the mix. Penny Nance is that woman. She is direct without being disrespectful, winsome but not shallow, and relevant while still holding to faith and conservative values.Accepting the baton of leadership from their foremothers, today's conservatives have emerged as intelligent, hard-working women of faith who not only deal with issues like life and marriage, but are also advocates for the free market, for rights of conscience, and for female victims of radical Islam. Passionate about their role in society, they refuse to turn a blind eye to the sexual exploitation of women or the hypocrisy surrounding women's issues. The time is right for this bookand for conservative women everywhere to be part of the conversation.

    - Be Who You Already Are
    av Rebekah Lyons
    185 - 202,-

You don't have to keep striving for freedom; live in the freedom you already have in Christ. In these pages, Rebekah Lyons walks you through her journey of releasing stress, anxiety, and worry to uncover the peace that is offered to us through Jesus Christ. Have you bought the lie? Many of us do. We measure our worth by what others think of us. We compare and strive, existing mostly for the approval of others. Pressure rises, fear and anxiety creep in, and we hustle to keep up. But Jesus whispers, I gave my life to set you free. I gave you purpose. I called you to live in freedom in that purpose. Yet we still hobble through life, afraid to confess all the ways we push against this truth, because we can't even believe it. Christ doesn't say you can be or may be or will be free. He says you are free. Dare you believe it? In You Are Free, Rebekah invites you to:Overcome the exhaustion of trying to meet the expectations of others and rest in the joy God's freedom brings.Find permission to grieve past experiences, confess areas of brokenness, and receive strength in your journey toward healing.Throw off self-condemnation, burn superficial masks, and step boldly into what our good God has for you.Discover the courage to begin again and use your newfound freedom to set others free. Freedom is for everyone who wants it--the lost, the wounded, and those weary from all of the striving. It's for those who gave up trying years ago. It's for those angry and hurt, brilliant and burnt by the Christian song and dance. You are the church, the people of God. You were meant to be free.

  • av Joseph Free
    282,-

Joseph P. Free's Archaeology and Bible History, first published in 1950, served well an entire generation of pastors, Sunday school teachers, laypersons, and college students by summarizing the history of the Bible and shedding light on biblical events through archaeological discoveries. The author demonstrated how such data helps us understand the Bible and confirm its historical accuracy. At times he also dealt with issues of biblical interpretation and criticism, always from a historically orthodox position. When the book was withdrawn from circulation in 1976 after the fourteenth printing, many hoped for the day when it would be revised and updated. That task has now been undertaken by one of Dr. Free's former students and a biblical archaeologist in his own right, Dr. Howard Vos. He has brought the archaeological and historical material up to date and has modified earlier archaeological interpretations where necessary. The bibliography has been almost totally replaced.
