Al Vernon had come to Panama to get away from the crime and sordidity where he was a cop in Atlanta, Georgia.
He bought a ranch on Chorcha Mountain and settled down for a peaceful life. He was only 46 years old, and had raised his son and daughter. His wife had died in an accident he wouldn't talk about. It was too painful. He had always felt guilty that he wasn't there. That was part of why he left the police.
