A Vexing Woman

A proud young woman learns lessons in love and safety when a no-nonsense man sweeps her off of her feet... and over his knee. As soon as she steps off the train into the hot southwestern sun, Charlotte Rose wonders if she has made a mistake. Leaving Boston to take a job as the schoolmarm of the small town of Porter, Texas, had seemed like a good idea, but the man sent to fetch her from the station almost changes her mind. The handsome but uncivilized brute who introduces himself as Max Harrison not only calls Charlotte by her first name, he also demands that she change her clothing, which he insists is inappropriate for the weather. She refuses to obey him. A short time later she gets heatstroke, faints, and endures being undressed down to her unmentionables and splashed with water by the brute.
