Antibiotic resistance in childhood urinary tract infections

Om Antibiotic resistance in childhood urinary tract infections

Introduction:The aim of our study was to investigate the usefulness of logistic regression in determining risk factors associated with antibiotic resistance in pediatric urinary tract infections (UTIs).Methods:This was a cross-sectional etiological study on a series of children admitted for UTIs between January and September 2020.Statistical analysis was bi then multivariate using binary logistic regression. Results: A total of 100 episodes of bacteriologically documented UTI were included; in univariate analysis, antibiotic prescription in the preceding 3 months was associated with antibiotic resistance; in the final model of the multivariate analysis, only prior antibiotic therapy in the preceding 3 months was retained as an independent factor in the occurrence of UTI with an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing strain. Conclusion: Our results underline the need for a therapeutic strategy adapted to our bacterial ecology, and for targeted action to remedy the factors contributing to antibiotic resistance.
